Reading the prospectus the other day. Mason Shaw picked up 76 goals in the Colts last year as a bottom aged player and yet looked like crap this year. Bloody hell he is hard to get a read on.
Irel is even harder to get a read on. Cracked it at us "overpaying" for Lisle with 29 but is happy to give away 8 for Shaw.

;)

Maybe a little harsh there Quigs? I thought his Colts was quite reasonable this year...

2011 averages
12.5 disposals
5.5 marks
3.1 goals
4.6 scoring shots

2012 averages
11.7 disposals
4.9 marks
4.0 goals
5.1 scoring shots

Down a touch in terms of possessions, up when it comes to scores - but that's what happens when you play full forward and don't rotate through the ruck. I've spoken about Shaw a bit this year on the D&T board, and I have no doubt he is a big game player. He steps up when needed, but otherwise it has seemed like he has almost been coasting this year - waiting to be drafted. It's just a shame he was injured at the start of the season, and only had two Colts games under his belt prior to the Championships. I reckon he'll step up to AFL level though. He has all the tools to be a great KPF.

Also, is it nearly time for you to put me to shame with your mock draft?

But he obviously was back for the champs and presumably available for senior selection after that?

I like Shaw - based on what I saw, he is a natural deep forward and is worthy of a top 10-15 pick. But an awful lot of people are dropping him down the rankings. Could be groupspeak but something similar happened to Todd Elton last year.

I have stated before. I am very suspicious of the circumstances around Shaw's drop in status. IMO Shaw is the real deal.

You would have to wonder if either West Coast or Fremantle have told a couple of the WA kids, namely Mason Shaw, Chris Yarran and Josh Simpson, to not perform that highly and they will take them later in the draft. Mason Shaw has had a solid year, but compared to last year he has slacked off and not really dominated teams. Chris Yarran run a 8 level beep test apparently, he is not that unfit and I have suspicions. Josh Simpson has had good flashes but hasn't taken his game to that next level which he is capable of.

Something fishy perhaps?

Also if Gold Coast aren't going to pick Andrew Boston up I would make a trade with them say possibly Pick 24 for Pick 26 and Boston, it isn't much but its better than getting no value out of Boston.

Surely not? I'm a good 18 years older than him and I would have a chance of running better than that.

An "8" would put Yarran in the "fair" category for his age.

An "8" would put you in the good to very good range for your age.

Two things:

1. Yarran was either injured, deliberately going slow or is the most unfit footballer on the planet.

2. Cotter should think about playing over 35s footy!

If WC/Freo told a few WA boys to tank at the combine/champs, would that count as draft tampering? And just don't have the time anymore.

That is the rumour that I have heard that he run an 8, which I think either he may have done on purpose given that those who are generally bad at the endurance tests sit them out, or are at least strongly advised to by their manager/coach/parents etc. To run an 8 to me suggests that it may have been done on purpose given that you just don't see results under 11 these days. He is a very good talent, right up their in this draft on pure talent but fitness is a weakspot, but you have to wonder.

Also if proven it would be draft tampering but it would never be proven. To hard to get the evidence, most of it would be speculation.

Yeah Freo have been into Mason Shaw for a while, I think he is a strong chance for their first round pick. Its fair to say that if he had a dominant year this year then he wouldn't have been available. Also West Coast have been into Josh Simpson for a while, he suits them down to a tee. I am not sure he will be available at their first pick (49?) Maybe they will upgrade that pick with Koby Stevens. Also Chris Yarran is looking as a rookie if he is picked at all, he was the best player at U16 level, something is a little suspect for mine.

With 3 picks inside the top 33 at this stage I think we are in a strong position. We currently have 5 list spots available, and we may trade a key position player in or elevate either McKeever or Crisp. I think we need to go best available at pick 8, personally I would think that Macrae, Mayes or Stringer are strong chances to be available there. I also think we will take a key position prospect at either 24 or 33. Personally I think we should pick a KPP at 24 so we get our pick of whoever is available someone like Tim O'Brien, Tom Clurey or Tanner Smith. At pick 33 I would look at either a medium forward, like Louis Herbert (similar to Josh Hill), or either a half forward such as Rory Atkins. I also think we are a strong chance at taking Plowman at 8 but I suspect he will be gone.

If we're talking "highlights" videos, i thought josh simpson's was far more impressive.
please note i also really like josh simpson --previous i stated the players i like "the players i really like in no particular order Brian coleman -broome ,,braedon mclean , chris yarran ..jesse hogan ,jack martim . ben kennedy , dayle garlett
jed anderson ,, emmanuel irra ,, mason shaw ,liam mcbean ,,tipungwuti ,,josh simpson,," My top 3 selectiosn would go like this garlett, shaw ,simpson .. Who knows how the draft will pan out , i hope that Brisbane keep pick 8 but trade to get more into the early picks .I hope Garlett shows his detractors up by show casing his skill

Sooooo Membrey at pick 8 according to Plough. Another medium forward to go with Ace, Karnezis, Lester and to a lesser extent Bewick and McGrath.
