So if GWS takes Tippett with either of their first 3 picks in the ND, will that help our chances of picking up a better player at pick 7 (It effectively becomes pick 6) ?

Very much so

Why would they give up that much for him?? They'd probably just risk him not being taken and pick him up at 14.

Bit late, but on Grundy, I doubt he will slide to us. He is top 5 on talent so will be hard to pass up for Port Adelaide if they miss out on another SA boy in Toumpas. I don't see a genuine ruck/forward on their list. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bulldogs make a play too despite their abundance of ruck/forwards (Grundy's ability as a pure ruckman may appeal).

If he did slide to us I doubt we will take him after taking Longer just last year.

Maybe. I could see them using Pick 3; especially if we make a bit of noise in picking him up at Pick 8.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I assume you can only name your price when you go into the PSD, not the ND? I know that 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. round draft picks are paid in accordance with which round they are selected in with match payments on top. I've never heard of a player nominating their salary and being selected in the ND.

That I don't know mate. There are more learned people around here who could answer that question.

I have just gone through and spent an hour watching all of the top afl draft prospects highlights. Non are better than Josh Simpsons.
Looks like an awesome outside midfielder. See videohttp://www.afl.com.au/Video/tabid/76/contentid/496118/Default.aspx
I know this is just a snap shot but I think he should be in the mix for our second pick depending on who is still there

For a lateish pick - Jaryd Cachia - spent a couple of years on Carlton's list and was at Norwood in the SANFL this year; one of the keys to their premiership this year. Very impressive in getting the ball and using it well at that level. Know Bassett was super happy with his year.

Damn you beat me to it I wouldn't mind him at all. He is as tough as they come... No wait that's Browny :p

I concur, he is everything our list needs. Some genuine X factor with great athletic ability, I've got no doubt that he has the ability to be the next Lewis Jetta.

With the way the trade period has transpired to date, I would imagine that a KPP is still our main priority at 8. IMO the only option now is Jaksch, as I don't think Plowman is viewed as a genuine KPP. Possibly paying overs for him but it is an investment in the future. Of course, Tippett may still change everything.

Not that long ago I recall you describing Jaksch as not the tall marking forward that we are looking for, with the potential retirement of JB on the horizon. So this selection would be on the basis of best KPP available? Obviously he is versatile and may yet still turn into a forward.

If we did go KPP at 8, it is likely that we would still be taking the highest ranked KPP in the draft given midfielders & a Ruck may take all prior selections. So while some maybe taking the 'overs' angle to get the number 1 KPP at 8 would be handy in any given year.

Without commenting on the merits either way of players like Simpson and Garlett, we have an elusive and skillfull outside mid in Polec that can't get a game for some reason or another. Would another player such as this be wasted on our list or are the perceived issues player specific to Polec? I'd be interested to hear the views of those in Brisbane that may have some sort of inside knowledge.

Not inside knowledge but match fitness has been identified as a large factor, hencde the dropaway in the back half of the season. He also copped a groin (?) injury in one of the last ressies matches late in the season. He has yet to complete a full preseason in his time at the Lions, which is also holding him back a little.

Polec has had a lot of niggling injuries which have stopped him from getting into top gear. A solid Pre season would do him the world of good this year. He has shown in bursts that he is full of class, just needs the match and season fitness. Could really breakout next year.

8. Macrae fills an immediate need and with Polec and Yeo could form a very smooth moving slippery midfield for 10 years. Plenty of x-factor with those players.
24. Shaw/Jaksch one should slide. Need to take a risk here and develope a tall. Would rather Jaksch as he is a better prospect IMO. Haven't really been impressed with Hadley's reluctancy to draft talls but im sure he will take 2 this year as it is an urgent need for the club going foward.
33. Liam Mcbean - hit or miss project player. Has the athleticism to play anywhere on the field (obviously better as a KPP) but would have him as CHB. With a 'resting' ruck now compulsory in AFL McBean could be perfect match up. Also with the likes of power forwards getting taller and more agile (Cameron/Daniher/Buddy etc.) defenders have to follow suite. Would like to see more rebounding from his game to make forwards more accountable.

would anyone be dissapointed if we pick Vlastuin at 8. looks good captain material.

Would prefer to take the best available player. We have captaincy candidates coming out of our ears already.

I am warming to Macrae a lot. I still like the big bodies of Wines and Stringer but if we miss or pass and we got Macrae I would be quite happy. From what you hear of O'Rourke he sounds quite 'vanilla' and just to add Jaeksch at 8 isn't a very smart move. Not best player and more in the 10-20 range.
