I think he will go around the 20 mark. Not sure he fits our needs though.
I think he would be a handy acquisition, my only problem is we have Polec developing and Yeo can also play on the. If rumors of Polec being homesick are true we should pounce IMO

Where have these rumors come from? He is a second year footballer who signed an extension in his first year. He had an indifferent season and all of a sudden he wants to go home?

He has two options, 1 is Port Adelaide (which he has supported his whole life) and the other is Adelaide who may not have the draft picks to facilitate a fair move next year. I don't think this has been even slightly substantiated by UTG or some other twat on a board here. It is quite annoying when people are using a rumor to substantiate a reason for doing x, y or z.

Not having a go at you Bert man per se, I've just seen it pop up on here too many times and I'm over seeing it.

I really think Wines/O'Rourke would be a great get at pick 8, although will be gone by the time its Port pick. We should just draft ready made players that can play from round 1. Wines fits that bill just like Rich how was in '08. I'm sick of drafting players that will take time to develope. Players like Polec, as talented he may be, are still hit and miss imo, you need almost guaranteed A-graders in the top 10 picks. You take the gambles with 2nd and 3rd rounders. I like the idea of the 'Moneyball' tactic in that if you have a need you draft the best you can get for that need. Clearances and Spread are the Lions main deficits. I think you can be successful without the dominant Forwards these days the likes of Geelong and Sydney ring a bell.

NOT a moneyball tactic. Not sure why Moneyball is such a wonderful word to use at the moment... Moneyball was about recruiting based on a statistical analysis regardless of flair, ranking, other abilities (eg. fielding) etc. It actually ignored specific attributed (eg. clearances and spread). For the movie (baseball), it was all about recruiting those with high on-base percentage. An example of moneyball in the AFL would be to recruit/trade to acquire players with the highest disposal efficiency percentage. A quick analysis of 2012 shows that the highest value players under a moneyball approach using DE% with over 5 games played would be:
  • Stephen Gilham - 93%
  • Andy Otten - 92%
  • Luke McPharlin - 87%
  • Nathan Grima - 87%
So... tell me - do you feel like trading Rich for Gilham? I understand that, if we use Moneyball, it's not really a fair trade, and we may have to chuck in someone else like Redden to make it even...

Maybe correct so far as Swans are concerned but do you not classify Hawkins and JPod as dominant forwards? I would.

They could be there still and if Melbourne lose their picks we will get one or the other.
GWS Lachie Whitfield
GWS Brodie Grundy
GWS Jimmy Toumpass
MELB Oliver Wines
WBLachie Plowman
WB Jake Stringer
OA Sam Mayes
BL Jon Orourke

The bulldogs will take either Plownan, Orourke or Stringer and If Mayes is available Port will take him no questions asked IMO. This would allow us to take either Plowmab, Orourke, Stringer and Macare. Orourke will play good footy from day one, but as good as Rich Stringer is sublimely talent. Plowman is a great backman and should be tried forward and Macrae is a good who can play in the flanks, wings and onball. Orourke will come on quicker than all 4 followed by Stringer, Macrae and Plowman and Plowman can play good footy from round 1 as well so whoever we get will be good IMO

Pods played in arguably one of the greatest sides ever and so his stats are inflated. As for Hawkins the jury was still out on him during their golden run and some cats fans wanted him delisted only really came on this year and he is a talent no doubt. But as for the game going forward I think you will rely less on the slower power forwards (Brown) with a more focus on defensive pressure and for the players ability to be flexible ie. Ruck/Forwards and mids rotating through the middle. With interchange caps a likely scenario in the near future you have to have flexibility.

What does it mean for us if GWS take Tippett in ND and Demons lose pick 4 for tanking? Our pick effectively becomes pick 6, if that were the case who would we be likely to pick? Also presumably it has an impacted on our second pick as well.

Give me a bit of Wine and I'll tell you.
Wiiiiiiiinnnnneeessssss!

Even if their talls weren't dominate themselves, they still had that structure and set up. They had talls who could take marks and kick goals. I believe you can get away with having lower quality tall forwards if your midfield is good enough. The midfield makes up the different in class. But you still need talls who are at least serviceable, Geelong and Sydney have these.

Agreed that he has the "catch me if you can" Justin Sherman-esque attitude to taking the game on and with the pace to match which is something we could really use. But for 1) His skills aren't quite up to AFL standard IMO 2) I'm not sure that Kerr/Voss will have the balls to go for a mature-age player after the trade debacle of 09. 3) He has shown that he can be borderline lazy at times, I can't see Voss liking that 4) I've found him to be at his best when breaking the lines off half-back, I'm not sure that we'd have a spot as a running/rebounding half-back for many years.

For mine in this draft, in terms of filling our needs what we'd be after is:

8) Sam Mayes
24) Mason Shaw/Kristian Jaksch/Tanner Smith
33) Jason Pongracic

If the prognosis on his leg is OK and he is available at 24, I would take a chance on Stringer.

From the sounds of it, he's a chance to be taken before our pick 8.

Reckon I'll be in the minority on this one, but on the off chance Wines is available at our pick I'd pass because, wait for it, I think Conway will offer us a similar package next year.

plowman because of his size would probably not be the key defender we are looking for id get him if we wanted to try him in the midfield as the big inside midfielder most teams want these days, tanner smith would be awesome at pick 24 as the big key defender we want

Fair point. The mail is though that the Bulldogs are keen on Stringer and/or Garlett to add pace. Which means Plowman may slip to us and if he did, it would be quite hard to say no.

Yeah he could be best available at 8 so we should take him but only if we see him developing into a midfielder because he would basically be a third tall for a while and may still never be a genuine CHB or FB and we seem to have alot of coverage for back flankers so yeahh would be a waste of a top 8 pick unless we see him a future for him elsewhere

in saying that im the furtherest from a draft expert for all i know he probably is perfect fit for a FB or CHB

I was a bit surprised to see Andrew Collins delisted by Carlton. I thought that he showed some good form this year. Was handy around the goals too.
