For those interested, the QLD U18's have their first game next Saturday against Dandenong at Yeronga. Good chance to have a glimpse of Lachie Whitfield live.

We really do still need some pace. We need some players with some toe that can rotate through the middle. We get found out by some teams (ess, carl, dogs) being too one paced around the ball. I've liked Polec spending some in the center, he has that ability to grab the ball and evade a tackle, that's what we need. Really hoping Green and Bartlett come along the way we all hope, those 2 will make a huge impact in our midfield rotations.

Zorko and Banfield up forward goes well, but i'd like another offensive crumbing type forward to go with 2 genuine talls and a 3rd tall/medium forward.

I'm taking an elite midfielder with our first pick.

I'm still going top KPF with first pick, but if Ace keeps this up and really shows something this year, i might be talked into a mid. Needs to be a genuine complete mid with great skills and pace though. Dont' want another 'quality' mid. Needs to be genuine elite.

I agree with a key position first pick. The Lions need at least 1 A grade key position prospect. The closest they have at the moment is Karnezis who probably won't end up a genuine KPF.

We will have 3 picks in the top 30 or so. The draft this year reportedly runs fairly deep, so hopefully we can grab 1 A grade prospect and another 2 solid youngsters.

Key forward for first pick, as there are less of them. Have only heard about Shaw, Stringer (more utility) and McBean (more ruck/forward).

Melbourne will probably finish below us in the ladder, so they'll get to pick twice (along with their round 1 compensation pick) before we do. Can see them going for a key forward as Watts hasn't come on and Jurrah's future is up in the air.

But the ability to develop talent is as important. Look at how Collingwood gets the most out of their many kids who were mid-late draft selections.

yeah It would be a hard choice as we need both a elite mid and forward. I am leaning towards a forward as right now we are looking pretty bad up forward post the brown era, and I would like a quality tall forward to come into the team before brown retires

The problem is that this year is very much a midfield draft. We could find ourselves that our first pick is too high to reasonably take a KPF prospect but our second pick might be too low to take a top notch option.

I can't decide whether a KPP or an x-factor player is a higher priority. More elite kicks and elite speed wouldn't go astray either.

wouldnt that mean mids will run deep then? If so locking in a quality forward would be priceless...I have heard great things about stringer and Shaw who both look top 10 types.

going by the way brisbane played yesterday they could end up with 2 early picks so they could get both a midfielder and a forward but i would hate to see tem go down te tankton path and tank

If GWS, GC, Port and Melbourne all finish below us like we expect them to, then we will end up with Pick 6 with our First is that correct? Then our next pick should be around 22-24? Then our 3rd pick should be around that 30 mark correct?

Yeah, limited KPFs though, and none that would be considered elite at this point of the year. TAC Cup can change a lot of that obviously.

The first round will be 18 + 4 (2x Melbourne, WBD, GWS from Adelaide) picks long. Assuming your ladder is right, we'd get pick 6, pick 23 and pick 28.

Really want a fast, x-factorish midfielder this year at this point in time.

You'd think we have enough young forwards that are yet to come on. Retzlaff, Ace and Lisle haven't been given a proper go. I know an elite forward would be great, but he'd still take years to come on (unless we got a Cameron or Patton type of bloke ready to go).

Another bloke like Polec would definitely not go astray.

I am more comfortable with our KPF's at the club as opposed to our KPD's TBH.
I am more comfortable with our KPFs future stocks compared to our KPDs stocks, however, at the moment we have Merrett, Patfull and Macguire who all do their job, and we have McKeever as back up and Clarke developing. We don't need to Draft a KPD with a high pick for at least 2 years.

I personally am keen to get another midfielder, yes we need KPP, however, 2 more quality midfielders who have the potential to be elite is what we should be going after. I would be looking to draft 2 quick players with elite disposal skills. We can go for some project KPP later in the draft as well to sure up our stocks there.

I wouldn't be against scouting a ready to go mature age KPP recruit either from the VFL, WAFL or SANFL e.g. Podisadly. Out of those 3 leagues there just has to be a player who can make it in the AFL. I am not saying a superstar either. Just a player who can take a grab and boot 2-3 goals. A mature age Ruckman from one of those leagues would be nice to. Particularly if Hudson retires.

Very good KPDs are historically taken around our 2nd or 3rd picks, so we may have some options there. The highest pure KPD I can think of taken in recent years is Rance, and he was only pick 18. Very good KPFs go much earlier, usually in the top 10 so around our first pick. It's going to be interesting to see how this draft crop shapes up.
