Question is what do we need more? A KPF, KPD or Midfielder.
mids, current mids are too slow. no point getting kpf while brown is there.

Fair point, I am still of the opinion we need an elite midfielder ahead of a KPF

We have a history of going tall 1st [pick. Am a fan of Longer, but feel overall this has been a failure. Classiest, quick mid 4 me.
Well he has played 2 games now, it's time for him to step up and take some leadership!A ruckman a failure in his first year? Wow!
Yeah, that was my thinking when i read it to. I hardly think Bunton is writing off Longer!I think you guys have misread Bunton there.
It looked to me that he was saying historically, Longer aside, we probably would have been better off overall going with mids over talls with our early picks in recent drafts.
A ruckman a failure in his first year? Wow!
I know it is too early to tell, but Toby Greene and Devon Smith would have both been great additions to our team for the now. Hindsight, um.
As for the three to chop my initial guess at this stage would be Buchanon, Hawksley and Sheldon. If one of Cornelius or Retzlaff can't crack the seniors and make an impact this year they'd also have to be worried. But you're right; it's all so hard to gauge at this point. All these players have plenty of time to prove themselves deserving a part in our future over the upcoming season. But it would be great to have a KPF that doesn't have so many question marks.
Please... a first year midfielder is not the difference between success and failure this year. You don't draft for instant results.
This is realistically the year we would reasonably expecting our 2008 and 2009 draft class to start making their mark.
Let's let Docherty and Longer have a couple of pre-seasons before we swallow the hemlock.
Yeah, not so sure about this. Generally the stars of the draft tend to make an impact in the first year.
I’m one for best available option at this stage (minus Ruckman) If the best KPF is taken or there not one worthy of a premium pick I would prefer not to pick one just for the sake of having one. Ideally I would like us to draft a KPF thou
We have to remember that were not drafting for next year alone were drafting for the 5years time.
Key position players take 4+ years to find their feet so we really need to get one and start to develop.
I think we should put a larger investment on arguably the most important player. Our current Investment where taken with pick 50 for Lisle, 57 for ACE, 84 for Retzlaff.
As stated previously I don’t want to have a premium midfield, and waiting for a forwards to develop. They really need to be hitting their straps at the same time.
A potential Drafting model I would like to follow would be something like
2012
First Pick (Top 7) : Key Position Forward (if available)
Compensation pick (23) : Another Mid (either a quick mid or a good clearance player, Zaharakis / Simon Black types)
Second Pick (30) : Key Position Defender.
2013 First Pick quality Mid
2014 First Pick quality Mid
Midfielders can come in and have an immediate impact,
Some quality Mids picked up with Mid first round picks recently. (most likely where we will be drafting from)
2006 #7 Selwood
2007 #10 Dangerfield
2008 #11 Sidebottom
We could use the remainder of picks in the 2013/14 draft to fill some holes such as Small Forward, Defenders, Midfield depth etc
We do really need a strong midfield, having used major resources on Leunberger and Longer we really need to take advantage of these two as a potential strength of the side. As stated a good midfield takes pressure off the defence and can help the forwards.
(I know that’s it’s all academic and drafting isn’t an exact science, example can be made where top picks have failed and later picks have succeeded but think we really need to go by past trends and hope for the best, i'd prefer this to hoping we get lucky with long shots. )
