I haven't made up my mind yet. Even during the Champs I was negative on him and was still thinking of him as a third rounder who would be overrated by someone and taken in the second somewhere. I am starting to think I may have been a bit harsh on him and will go back and look more closely at him. Ask again after the combine and I will probably have a firmer opinion on him.

I agree with you somewhat, I think Colquhuon is a late second round prospect/early third rounder at best, he has good skills no doubt and can find the ball well, but has a poor defensive game, average hurt factor and plays very loose as a defender. I think his hurt factor is not as great as other HBF and he plays a very uncontested outside game. Sure he has neat skills but he has massive issues IMO as a HBF.

Quigley, given the recent success we have had with Tinka and to a lesser extent Bewick and the requirement in the team for AFL ready recruits, are there any names in this article that you believe are worth keeping an eye on?

Not addressed at me I know, but I would take Ben Saunders in a heartbeat.

Just from the article, Haretaku for a later pick. Seems to have a lot of upside.

I wouldn't have thought a small defender is close to the top of our needs list.

I agree to a degree, but I think Docherty may move further into the midfield, and Colquhoun would give us that option. But yes, we do have more pressing needs.

The thing I like about Colquhoun is his reading of the play, that takes smarts that you can't teach.

Agree about Ben Kennedy, would love for us to grab him. He is quality at the clearances and has the ability to kick goals when going forward. Would be a big upgrade on Green, who currently steps into that role when in the team.

Lee is one you hear a lot about on BF if nowhere else coming into the draft. He would be a running CHF I think at AFL level who would work well off a big pack crashing FF. I think we need a target more than a mobile runner so I would probably tend away from him for us although I think he will impact when he gets a chance. I think he would do well at Geelong if they picked him up.

I had hopes for Duffy a couple of years ago and if the penny has dropped he would be a nice pick up later in the draft. I had heard a few things about him going okay and I will definately be asking a few questions of WAFL watchers I know.

Dean Towers is one I think might go pretty high this year. Clubs want to find another Jetta or I Smith and and Towers is the one who most closely fits the bill this year.

Someone is going to take Saunders I think. These kind of medium forwards are not usually taken very highly although if he tests well it could be a bit higher than people expect given the success of Saad this year. Testing will be important for him. He needs good speed and reasonable to good endurance results.

I will take a look at the other guys mentioned as time goes on but these four were the ones that were on my radar.

Pretty excited about our first pick this year. I love the options we have. Can potentially be a player in the mini draft and get Hogan who would fill a massive need long term. If not, there are going to be quite a few midfield options at pick 8 that have attributes we need.

I struggle to get excited about picks until after the trade period when I know we'll have 'em.

Yeah trading is another option. One that doesn't frighten me as much as other people.

I reckon if we get Tippett, you can pretty much write off our first pick. Unless the clause exists......

There are a few I'd be stoked with us getting this year though. Sadly, I'm not sure Garlett is one of them at the moment.

I'm starting to get a bit that way, it's getting towards the off season now, and we are well placed in this draft. We really need some quality genuine mids, not HB's that can play midfield, not HF's that can play midfield, not wingers that can be in the midfield rotations, we need genuine on ballers. The 3 R's are fine, but after that the cupboard is bare for genuine mids, we have plenty of players who will feature and rotate through, but we need the next Simon Black.

The draft is being held on the GC again this year isn't it ?

highly unlikely i.m.o pick 8 wouldnt be enough when the dogs and dees have much better picks and can afford to bid due to having first round picks after their first picks in the first round so gws could potentially have 1 or 2 or both or 1 or 2 and 4 or 5

I think we are in the frame for pick 2 in the minidraft. We have the advantage of the Rischitelli compensation park (23) as well.

surely that wont come into play because obviously g/c will be favrioute for pick 1 and the bulldogs will probably be 2nd favrioute and melbourne would bid pick 4 for sure you would imagine

You realise there are players in THIS draft that Gold Goast etc might rate?

sure gold coast might keep number 1 or 2 but it would make more sense for them to trade pick 1 or 2 for martin seeing how they have to delist so many players this year

and not having him on the list next year makes it easier for them and same with the buldogs who will probably bid pick 4 for pick 2 and get hogan who they desperately need which leaves gws with 1,2 and 4 which will probably get them whitfield, grundy and plowman wich is really going to set them up to dominate

Suns will need a steady influx of players from each draft to help balance out their list age too. They can't afford to have all their players around the same age. They already got Jaeger, they don't need another mini draft pick. Better off using their picks in the normal draft I think.

Pick 1, hard to see us trading that.

Yeah, there might be situations where pick 1 this year is worth less to a club than pick 1 next year (ie if Hogan were a clear #1 for next year and you guys were desperate for tall forwards), but if we're talking Whitfield v Martin, surely you'd just take Whitfield this year and move on.
