Myles will not get picked up imo if he has been overlooked the past 3 years with similar form. The worry with him is that he is pretty smallish for an inside mid and has average skills, they are concerned with how he would cope with AFL.

Personally I would look for players who have that little bit more class and time than others. I would be looking at:

O'Rourke - skilled inside/outside mid who just has class written all over him (probably won't be available though), great decision maker

Mayes - Athletic mid/HFF just has time, also great right boot on him, developing his inside work nicely, similar to Pendlebury and a bit of Griffen imo.

Menzel - Don't be scared by his knees to much, looks to have that special ability to read the play really well, very good medium forward, and capable mid. Could turn out to be a similar type of player to Ablett (he has that potential imo), if the club was 100% on his knee I would take him.

Wines - good inside/outside mid, neat skills though not as good as those above, but is hard at the contest and spreads well. Nice type who should be an important part of the mid, maybe doesn't have the star potential of some though (but hey possibly wrong here)

Plowman - smokey KPP with very good athletic ability rebounds well and can hold down CHB, issue over size at 191cm but could be a third tall type. Very damaging also good overhead, I would like to see him tried as a CHF, but does his best work in the backline.

Jaksch - Looks to be a natural forward, good CHF/FF prospect, nice speed and strong mark, knows where the goals are, he is one who could push up as a borderline top 10 on draft day.

People Zorko wasnt up to it i believe if Sewell had an AFL pre-season he would be very good everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I have said this so many times Wines is a major priority for us on draft day and so is O'Rourke. Mayes, Plowman and Jaksch are all good players, but are behind Wines and O'Rourke. Menzel would be great if he can slip to our second pick I am being optimistic their. I wouldnt be too upset if we took Menzel at pick eight, but their are better players that should be available at pick 8.

Personally I rate Mayes ahead of Wines and think that he will translate much better to AFL, and I have him slightly ahead of O'Rourke although not by much. He is far more damaging, a much better kick, and can go forward and kick goals. I don't think we have a priority type of player at the draft table with our first round pick, best available is always the go.

Agree 100%

His form in the champs got me even more excited and suggested his knee was not troubling him.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sewell junior gets his chance this year for the Zorko reason alone. I doubt it'd be with us, but after another very good year and Zorko proving to be yet another mature aged recruit who was able to transfer his impact from the reserves level to the senior competition, his prospects would have to be pretty high. His skills definitely are the biggest concern, but I'd say it's probably the same with Zorks, yet that hasn't influenced the impact he's had at all.

Question for Quigley, Offsider and anyone else who may know - when do draftees videos start being put up by the AFL? I'd imagine not until after the combine, but is there a specified date?

Sewell will be 25 in February next year. Older players have been taken but not many. It works against him.

That's true, but if they were to come in and make an impact similar to what Zorko has been able to do, I still think there'd be a few clubs interested.

The question is, has Sewell been dominating the competition down there to the same extent that Zorko was up here?

Zorko always had the class, though, didn't he? Was more a question whether he'd find enough of it, be able to cope defensively etc - confident he'd be able to create & do something.

Sewell doesn't even look classy in the VFL.

The videos don't generally get put up until the start of November from memory. The difference between Zorko and Sewell is that Zorko has pretty good athletic ability, strongly built and has dominated the QAFL/NEAFL as a forward/mid who kicks goals, he was clearly the best player in the league for almost 4 years. Sewell is quite slow and a poor athlete, sure he finds a fair bit of the ball but doesn't use it nearly as well as Zorko, and is not in the same class level or dominate as much or as long.

I guess Zorko was also playing in a vastly inferior comp so it was easier to stand out.

I don't know enough about Sewell to really comment on his draft chances - what I would say is that Zorko got himself on a list because he took his game to a totally different level. He got substantially fitter. He then proved that his game was up to a higher standard with his exceptional performance against WA in the state game. In other words, he gave recruiters a reason to change their mind.

If Sewell has maintained the same level of performance as over the past 3 years, then the chances are that he probably hasn't given the recruiters a reason to take another serious look at him. Recruiters have already overlooked him a few times - I don't think he can keep doing the same thing and expect them to change their minds.

I always thought Sewell would do pretty well if he got a chance. Winning the contested ball is a major skill at AFL level and he would definately hold his own in that regard. He slow sure but he would still find plenty of the ball and I am not sure you need speed for a lot more than that as an inside mid. Skills would need polishing but then so did Watson's and he got there. With all that said I do think his time has passed now.

On the vidoes they could come out anytime. The year before last they came out pretty early whilst last year they were late. I personally have no idea what they will do this year.

Mayes is a class above Wines for me. Wines is better inside but Mayes has him covered in all other aspects of the game. The Melb gang were down checking out Mayes very closely on the weekend in the SANFL.

Pies are keen on Grewar from Redlands. I wonder if we were the other club that invited him to state screening.

I haven't seen enough of him to comment properly. Anyone seen many Redlands games this year?

Another ranga, why not?

I'd be keen to hear other impressions too. I've only seen him play the once vs Tassie, but thought he was one of Qld's best. Struck me as a terrier, but wasteful by foot.

Almost time for me to start talking up Brewer...........again:thumbsu:

Give him 7 more pre-seasons and he might have base level AFL fitness.

There is worse back-up out there though, I think. Deserving of little more than a rookie spot as it stands, but I think Brewer is better than some of the other rucks we've had as back-ups recently.

In saying that, I'd be very surprised if he's picked up. Hasn't been outstanding enough this season to really demand it.

I won't be too surprised if he gets picked up as a few clubs have been looking at him.

I agree he would at least be good back up. Besides it only a rookie pick.

lionsrthebest

You are 11 yo. Right?
lets just say i learnt alot from my dad who did recuiting tapes for an afl club and when
Michael Nunan

came over to our place (when he was a fitzroy coach) i learnt a lot about his philosophy on what makes a great team and what attributes make a great player. nice to see in other threads talk about goddard and even gilbert are making people think. i would never pick up the players of the likes of hawksley ever . i told the club i was bitterly disappointed that he was not delisted in 2011 but i understand he was still on contact buchanan was another frigin huge mistake

we were linked to a young forward from North Hobart last year called Dobosz. the boy has had a full year in the seniors , might be worth a look. another tassie boy brady jones ( former tassie tiger keeper) might be also worth a squiz !!!

Did not know we were linked to him, do you have a link article?

Was planning on keeping tabs on him but forgot, has he done well?

yeah he was rated pretty high last season. From memory he was a Stevie J type (Quick, Creative, eye for goal etc...)?

The lad has a very good set of hands. If he is around at the rookie draft we should take and run. Watching his highlight real I wouldn't be fussed if we took him in the ND. Does anyone know what his work rate is like? Can he play midfield?

remember brisbane lions united supporters this is the guy i told brisbane recuiting staff prior to the 2011 draft .that he was an extremely hot prospect - they HAWTHORN

rookie Amos Frank has continued to raise the possibility of his elevation to the senior list with four goals in Box Hill's thrilling six-point over Williamstown in the VFL.
Frank, who hails from the remote APY Lands in northern South Australia and can speak relatively little English, has developed a cult following since being rookie listed by the Hawks with pick No. 34 in the 2012 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
His exciting style of play and lightning pace was a feature for the Hawks and he kicked most of his goals in pivotal stages of the game. hugely pissed off . Went to an 14 grand final and saw player i think warrants investigation by brisbane . he won player of the competition. i only hope brisbane might want to look at this guy very impressed .my dad who alerted pat k was at the game and agreed with my assesment . i will let this site know if anything comes of a future hot prospect
