I think it's worth noting that, off field issues aside, the ruck/forward player was out of vogue in Spanders' time. The in-betweeners (half a ruckman + half a forward) equated to a value of half of nothing, because they weren't good enough to be either. These days these types of players are massively in vogue.

I wonder if some of the clubs have them on the radar. Apparently 5 of them are being invited to the Draft Combine this year. Would be a huge experiment IMO.

What about that bloke with a crook knee and shoulder that fell to 7 was his name J.Selwood.

You could say the same about C.Bartlett and Pat Garner could go either way.

Don't forget Stringer! Some here say that we are not in a position to take a gamble on such players but the process of drafting is becoming more and more an exact science (bar Melbourne and Richmond) and I have full faith in our recruiting team.

I'd be less wary about Menzel if he had a traditional knee reco (I'm aware Bartlett had a traditional reco), but I don't think we know enough about the long term viability of LARS yet. Makes it a bigger risk in my opinion.
