Quick rundown of our picks and who we should be looking for IMO
Pick 8:
Wines, O'Roukre or would add the finishing touches to our midfield IMO. Three R's, Polec is going to have a break out year next year IMO and either Wines, Orourke would create the makings of a very good midfield. Macrae is overrated IMO so he isnt for pick 8 IMO, he playes alot like Polec and if we want a running player we can get Mathew Haynes at our second of third pick. Garlett would be my preffered pick 8 along with Wines and Orourke he ticks so many boxes in terms of ability. Garlett is fast, exciting he can go forward and kick goals we could do a lot worse at pick 8. Ben Kennedy should also come into calculations.
Pick 23:
We will need a replacement for Goose, Patful and Sauce as they are in their twilight of their careers. Tanner Smith is the logical replacement whether or not he will be available at pick 23 is another question. Mathew Haynes should be a available at pick 23 if he is we should consider him. Hrovat is also another player who could be available at pick 23 and if he is we should take him if Tanner Smith is gone. Jesse Lonergan is another player who should be available at this pick along with Smith and Hrovat we could happily take him here. Lonergan will also be available at pick 30. Tim Obrien should aslo be considered if available at this pick.
Pick 30:
Jason Pongracic should be available at this pick if he is should come under serious consideration he is a strong bodied midfielder and can play from the word go. Sam Colquhoun may available at this pick if he is he is another who should come under serious consideration. Sam accumulates plenty of the footy off the half back flank the only thing that worriers me about selecting him is that we have plently half backmen already. Sam Lowrie is another who we could take at this pick.
Pick 49:
Hope we take a local with this pick and Clay Cameron may be available. Cameron can play forward or back as a KPP so he adds valueable versitility. Brian Coleman-Broome is another who should be available at this pick and is another local lad. Brian would add GREAT leg speed to midfield and forward line. Alex Boston is another local lad who should feauture around this pick he can play forward and back.

I think he is a HBFer and that is about it cotter. I don't see that he adds anything to the deep group that we already have. I would be addressing our tall needs first before going with someone like Colquhoun.

If we approach to the draft and decide to go best available and Colquhoun is there at pick 23 we will take him. If we approach draft day and decide to fill voids in our list Tim Obrien or Tanner Smith should be taken at pick 23 if of course available. Our attitude going into the draft will be a major factor.

He probably is but I think it would allow Hanley/Docherty to play a pure midfield role. If O'Brien is there I'd be seriously considering him as well.

I think Colquhoun has got a fair bit of talent, but at this point in time I think he will slide a fair bit and I have a few worries about his ability as a HBF. His defensive game is pretty awful and that worries me, also he is quite small and and maybe found out athletically as a small defender at AFL level. He reads the play very well, picks up plenty of disposals, many of them cheap and he uses the ball exceptionally well. I would like to see him groomed as a mid, as that is where I think he may end up so I would suggest that he maybe a long term project.

Sounds like he is not really a priority type player for us at present....

I wouldn't say so we have a host of better HBF/mid-sized outside prospects coming through imo, including Docherty, Golby, Harwood, Lester and Yeo who I think will sure up our defence along with Hanley, Adcock, Drummond and McGrath.

I think our bigger needs are tall forwards, specifically and elite contested marking CHF, and tall defenders. We also have a need for a fast outside player and an inside ball winner.

Agree. They have been hurt more than most with the "go-home" factor and no risk of that here.

Sorry to butt in here, but how exactly have we been hurt by the "go-home" factor? You might be thinking of Adelaide who lost Gunston, Maric and now look like they might lose Tippett too. Whilst everyone has heard a fair bit about Boak, Butcher, Trengove and Gray going home to Victoria through the media and on bigfooty, they all put pen to paper. We even had a pretty nice win with the "go home" factor with Brad Ebert last trade period.

And just to add a different perspective to the will we take Grundy or not question, I would not be surprised if we passed on him. We've invested recently in three relatively young ruckman through a first round draft pick (Lobbe), trading for Renouf and looking after Redden for the first couple of years of his career. They all have played some good footy at AFL level and whilst none had the reputation nor the output of what Grundy has achieved in underage football, we are hoping that they will continue to develop this year.

Anyone who watches us regularly will notice that midfielders and even half back flankers with pace, poise and skill should be our number one priority (when Pfeiffer, Logan, Thomas, Cassisi are all part of your midfield rotations you notice the lack of) and if we don't go there it's pretty clear that we are looking pretty ordinary in terms of our key defenders as well. Meaning that guys like Toumpas, O'Rourke, Kennedy, McRae and Garlett or Plowman and Jacksch would be probably our first target.

It'd be bloody hard to pass up Grundy, but I think we would just like GWS overlooked Longer last year. I would imagine Grundy will be going to GWS and if not Melbourne would snap him up pretty quick because their ruck stocks are pretty horrendous. If he does slide past Port, I wouldn't be overly surprised if Brisbane overlooked him too. Longer and Leuenberger are already two high picks and Hudson is good to go for another year or two? The midfield is a hugely important piece in the puzzle to becoming a good side and the best of them tend to go in the early rounds, so unless you have the gift of the gab and are nailing them with late picks, most years you would want to be taking midfielders in the opening rounds - especially after already spending recent first round draft picks on ruckmen.

While we don't lose a heap of players to the "go home" factored (Dalziell, Headland, McLaren, "kinda" includes Clark, Henderson), we have had a number of salary cap issues caused by teams pumping up players' salaries that we retain by paying over the odds when they claim "homesickness". Examples include Rischitelli, Bradshaw, Brown amongst others.

I would like us to pick up delisted Dean Polo from St Kilda to and some experienced contested possession winning ability. For our first pick I really like the sound of Garlett.

Not sure if serious in regards to Dean Polo??

Yeah i am. He is a ball winning machine, has experience (71 games) and could be just what our midfield is missing.

This is a better ball winning machine than Dean Polo.....

I'd hope we take someone who is over 6 foot tall.

That would require us to give up one of Redden, Rich, Leuenberger, Merrett etc IMO. No deal.

you can include green , beams, rocky etc to that list
i would not as well ,these guys are certainly part of the future , we can only guess as to what it would take ,we'll never know until we ask what it would take, i would only offer players that i have mentioned previously .Acorn or ban field or both or someone else from the list i stated i would trade . your right they want take rubbish for a mini draft pick but Brisbane desperately need a replacement for brown urgently would be an understatement so if we can get hogan there is your six footer ,for the rest i have watched the tapes and am very impressed with their skill level and speed Unfortunately Brisbane has quite a few gaps that need fixing and it will not be done in one draft

I agree that it can't be done in one draft. That's why it is an either/or situation - either we keep pick 8 or we use it to try and get either Tippett or Hogan.

We'd get laughed out of the room if we packaged together Cornelius and Banfield as our bid for an MD pick.

it may involve a third club -trading players to that third club for a 1st round selection. Who knows what GWS will agreed In neg always start low .acorn could be one of those players that full fills his potential elsewhere . I agree with everyone here though - what have we got loose lets talk and see what happens . Regards tippett he is a big mistake good old tex walker showed just how big a mistake getting tippett would be . voss better tone down this trade trade mentally and take a step back and see who will be really good for the club , brisbane cannot afford another fevola mistake One word over the past few games sums up coming back from injury -tippett perforamces were useless I would rather get Hogan while browny can teach him the ropes i believe this would be a far better choice
