Geeze, and even before hearing that I'd have taken Toumpas if we had pick #1.

The most interesting snippet from that vid though was Shifter's mention that Membrey's grown a bit to 'nearly 190cm' and he clocked 2.99 for the 20m. That just about raises him into my thinking, if not for our compo pick then certainly our second rounder.

Yeah I've been keen on Membrey for some time, and that really does make him an interesting prospect.

Starting to think a little though. Any chance GC would trade pick 2 for pick 8 and 23? Then they could satisfy Adelaide with 8 for Tippett and still have 23, as opposed to what some are calling their last resort of just trading 2. Wishful thinking, but my Toumpas love is growing by the hour, and has been for months.

I don't see why the Suns would go for that if they're holding the PSD stick, but from our end I'd certainly be tempted. We could then still pick up a good KPD prospect with our 2nd rounder and come out laughing.

For me, watching Toumpas play through the champs I could just envisage him rounding out our midfield mix perfectly...but I gave up on that dream long ago.

Sadly, I'm yet to have my hope broken by the realistic nature of the world. It was slightly shaken when we missed Greene, but I know that no matter how hard I try to convince myself it's impossible, I'll head to draft day hoping for Toumpas.

He's just one who you can see will undoubtedly make it. There's various players who show glimpses, or are consistent, or have great potential - but Toumpas just has it in a way that only the early picks normally do.

why would we trade two pick's for one pick that's stupid even if it was pick 2

Because you can get an elite midfielder who can be the star of your group for 10+ years with pick 2. Much lower chance of doing that with pick 8 and/or 23.

Take the 2007 draft for example. Pick 8 was Lachie Henderson, pick 23 was Tayte Pears.

Pick 2 was Trent Cotchin.

If you had them both on your list, would you trade Henderson and Pears for Cotchin? I certainly would. Obviously there's significant doubt over who will/won't make it anyway, but Toumpas appears as sure a prospect as I've seen for quite some time. Just as certain to be a star at senior level as Cotchin was. Arguably even more so.

Nothing is impossible, Longer was no chance to get to us, as was one Daniel Rich a few years earlier. Weird things can happen. I still remember seeing Rich on the front page of the AFL site, reading his profile and thinking he is the kind of midfielder we need, it's a pity we won't get near him.

so boys and girls if the club is interested in jack martin please explain for me how do we get a shot at this kid ?

p.s i would take Toumpas at 8 as well !! nice to dream i guess

I certainly wouldn't swap Ryan Lester & Josh Green for Jared Polec.
Just saying................ I really hope/doubt that type of scenario would be floating through the powers to be.

I must admit, I am going to find it very hard to hate the Suns in the short term if they force Melbourne to take Viney at pick 3.

Unless GWS aren't going to use pick 1 on Whitfield I can't see what the Suns have to lose by nominating Viney. Viney will be a gun regardless of which club he goes to. Even though his dad played for Melbourne I'm sure Viney would rather play in a side on the up and with Gary Ablett instead of playing at the Dees.

If the recruiters rate Toumpas higher then anyone else in this draft and they really want him I have no doubt the club will try to make a trade that will put us in a position to get him. Despite my extreme love for Garlett, if we did get pick 2 in a trade I would take Toumpas in a heartbeat. The only reason I have not been talking about him is because I thought and I still think we have no chance of getting him without a trade.

Whitfield, Toumpas, Viney and Daniher are the four players I've mentally written off as no chance at pick 8.

Yeah, I'm not even going to bother to dream. Almost certain to end in disappointment.

I'm not optimistic enough to hope for Toumpas but I am just optimistic/deluded enough to hope Mayes slides to 8.

According to this video, Toumpas is a Brisbane supporter!!! I'm not sure I've ever wanted a player more. How do we get our hands on a pick that will grab him?

EDIT: Sorry Zhesty, just noticed you beat me to it.

If that was footage of Martin at the end, he looks extremely skinny. I was a bit surprised considering the hype.

Damn, I never Toumpas was a Lions supporter, that's going to make it sting even more when we miss him. Any chance his dad can pull a Tony Kavanagh?

I would rate them:

Cameron - early to mid second round on talent, coming into the year he was rated higher but has slipped due to injury.
Boston - mid second round pick, excellent outside mid prospect
Bourke - late second round to late third round, has a lot of untapped potential
Coleman-Broome - Probably third round onwards, has a ton of potential as either a small forward or rebounding defender. Needs a fair bit of work, but has elite speed and good skills.

I don't think we could go wrong with any of these types as we need them all.

I'm super eager for GC to pre-list and ontrade them... Lions want 20% of their list to be local in the next few years, so this would be a great start. GC get an early pick for nothing, we get 2-4 players who can suit us for years...

Coleman-Broome seems least likely to me, not because of his skills (never seen him play), but because I've heard he's ideal as small fwd, and we've got Green, Banfield, and Zorko doing that already... that said, rumour (Sportsnewsfirst) is that Banfield wants a trade, and Green/Zorko will be doing more stints through the centre - Coleman-Broome could fit in great - we really need more pace in our starting lineup, so if he can establish himself, I wouldn't at all be unhappy...

The way things are shaping up it does look like there'll be a good 'class virtually guaranteed' option available to us at 8. While that option may not fill our most pressing need (an outside mid IMO), they should still fill a hole. The Suns bidding for Viney and the (as yet theoretical) rise of Macrae helps significantly, as would the mooted Martin mega trade (already flagged by POBT).

My first thought was "Jarrad Oakley Nicholls".

Have state screening invites been announced yet? And if so are any Queenslanders invited? Mainly Starcevich, Scott Clarke and Clouston.
