Yeah, interesting to see if Collingwood gave anything for Young and how that compares with what we might have given, if anything.

Only reason Port Adelaide traded for Monfries was so they don't compromise the compensation pick(s) they receive for Chaplin/Pearce, because it's based on net loss (they'll get better compensation for losing Chaplin/Pearce without gaining anyone than if they did). Collingwood don't have that problem.

Where's the Young to Collingwood story from?

We should get him...

I've been trying to work out whether we'd get more mileage out of "Wines" or "Plowman". I think Plowman wins because it sounds slightly dirty.

Imagine the commentry...And the tackle is like a Plow from Plowman, his opposition nothing but snow!

Whereas the best we can hope for is a 29yr Wine still playing for us and the cringe worthy "Hes like a fine Wine how he plays, better with age.

It looks like we'll get a good player at 8. I'd be hoping for Wines or O'Rourke, but I expect them to be gone. Menzel is a talent but the LARS worries me. Garlett could have that flair we need, but I'm unsure of his attitude. If we decide to risk it on a player, I would hope it is Stringer. He could be that big midfielder with the size and skill to push forward and play key position. A-la Adam Goodes. Given we took and have had success with Rockliff and Maguire, I don't think his leg would scare us off. If we go key position then the versatility of Jaksch appeals to me and probably would appeal to Voss and Co.

I would have thought the more obvious question would be which potential draftee have rang-ish qualities. We know our fearless leader is partial to the red tinge.

Assuming Whitfield, Grundy and Toumpas go for the first three picks. We'll be able to get our hands on one of Mayes, Wines, Plowman, Stringer, Garlett, O'Rouke or Macrae at 8 (just names I've seen rated at the top end of the draft), that doesn't sound half bad at all. :)

Intrigued to see where Garlett and Stringer end up, given their respective issues.

James Stewart is one I wouldn't mind getting at pick 23 or 30, wonder why Collingwood passed on taking him as a F/S though. Maybe they were worried they'd have to pay too much for him like Hawthorn and Curran last year. Skinny though.

ROB KERR IF YOU COME ON BIGFOOTY GET OLIVER WINES EVERYBODY WHO SAYS DONT GET WINES I DONT THINK YOUVE EVER SEEN HOW TOUGH HE IS. DID I MENTION I WAS A FAN?

He won't be there at pick 8 IMO. Odds on of getting picked at 4 I reckon.

Really upset we didnt get Tom Lee :(. Hope we go for Ben Saunders I love the thought of him and Bewick playing as leading forwards :)

I am not upset at not getting Tom Lee, we would have had too downgrade pick 8 significantly to be in with a shot at him after the Saints downgraded Pick 12 to 20.

I rate Stringer highly but my only concern is that he will struggle as a midfielder at AFL level due to his lack of agility and the fact that he is not the most mobile player. He has decent speed but only in a straight line, he struggles to move side to side and has a poor turning circle. Additionally he does not look like a natural inside mid to me, but that is one area that can be developed I guess. These things lead me to believe that he won't be a full time mid, but more of a forward. I wouldn't be overly disappointed if we took him at Pick 8, but I think he could either become a very good CHF or forward/mid.

can someone explain this mini draft to me ? what is it for, why have it ? just seems like a free ride for some clubs (other than us ) to get quality kids
