I know, this has to be a new record (even for Melbourne supporters) to be talking draft picks so early. But can someone let me know what selections we were given for the Scully compo?

We will have our own selection of course, and from my understanding we get one compo pick that directly follows that pick. (Can we use this pick to select Jack Viney since it will more than likely be the lowest of our first round picks?)

Then, what range does the tier one criteria give us with the other pick? Heard mumblings of pick 8 to 10 but nothing certain. If someone could clear this up for me it would be appreciated. :thumbsu:

We get one pick directly after the team that finished 9th (assuming no Priority selections it will be P11), then another pick after our own frist round selection. So if we finish last we'd get P1&2 then also have P11 locked in stone.

Not sure how it would chamge if Geelong also activate Ablett comp...

We will have to use our first selection on Viney regardless of it being comp or not. Again assuming someone below us bids for him.

GWS hold the mid 1st round selection (between finalists and non-finalists) as it was traded to from GC (originally from Geelong) so they would decide whether to activate it or not. Having said that I think the order is based on where Geelong finish not GWS so even if we finish higher than GWS and assumably Geelong finish higher than both, our mid pick would be before GWS'.

If we don't make the finals then we should theoretically have back to back picks ie normal first round pick with 1st round compo right after it as our first 2 picks in which case it won't matter with the order. If we decide to trade one of those picks then it obviously gives more credence to using our first pick on Viney.

In this scenario our mid 1st round selection pick will come a little later.

If any of GC, Brisbane or Port Adelaide finish with less than 16.5 premiership points this season then they get a PP before the 1st round.

At this stage it wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest GC and Port could end up in that situation (Brisbane less likely) so that's 2 spaces everyone will be bumped before the draft even begins properly.

I wonder we'll use, bank or trade either of our compo picks this year?
As far as using or trading them goes it is hard to tell at this stage.

If we want to activate any of them though then it has to be done before the start of the season (for the relevant year up to 2015) so we'll have a better idea in a couple of months. I think most of us would expect at least 1 of them to be activated if not both.

I'd activate at least the pick tied to our finish position as assumably we will continue to move up the ladder between now and 2015.

If it were me i'd activate both knowing its a strong midfield draft and we need more depth and the sooner we get them on the list the more advanced they become. Also it gives us some flexibility if someone comes on to the market in trade week we could offer live picks in a strong draft to try to play ball. ie. Caddy and Toy from GC come out of contract this year and may look to move south.

We would be mad not to use them all this year. Apparently this years crop is the next 'Super Draft'. (Hodge, Ball, Judd and heaps of other stars going at deeper picks as well - Yes, we selected Luke Molan in the last Super Draft :o)
There was talk that players picked in the 10-15 range of this draft could be as good or better than players picked in the top 5 of the 2011 draft and it doesnt stop there!

Really wise move by Neeld trading away last years 1st rounder for Clark knowing we have three 1st rounders in this years draft (one will have to be used on Viney im sure). Have set ourselves up really well. Shouldnt even think of trading any of our 1st or even 2nd round picks this year IMO.

I'm with you on this but I would look to use both, its now or never & we need to fill our list with the players Neeld wants for his game plan in time for when our high draft picks of 07-10 mature.

No more building, we have the core now we & need a few quality young players that fit exactly what Neeld want to implement his game style. And as Rude said it is supposed to be a great draft.
