I've heard things about him that weren't great, but missing out on being drafted at all, good god he must've screwed up bad.

He has issues with his ball drop and kicking style. In the Gold Coast game, he was trying to correct his natural draw from right to left and as a consequence, the ball started right and went straight on because somehow, he corrected the drop and was starting to the right.

And besides, if he wasnt going to make it, he would have been delisted this year.

I didnt say he wasnt going to make it, I just dont rate him as far ahead of Hampson as some.

Pretty damn happy with the draft. Coming in I was hoping for some midfield depth inside, a tall forward and a small shut down defender. It sounds like we have picked up a quality inside mid in Graham, a good small shut down defender in Temay and a BLOODY GOOD outside mid/HFF in Menzel.

Midfield draft
Smart. Gives us that next tier that we didn't have when Carrazo and Murph fell over last year. And they'll all develop at the same pace.

A match winner, an insider mid who wins a lot of it, and small defender with good skills, who can go through the midfielder. Those are three things we really needed.

By the end of next season we'll have a better steer on which of our crop of young talls are going to make it, and we can have a taller draft next year.

V. Happy.

Have to hopeful like Twomey2Betts
Hahah, I'll never live that one down. Why Twomey, why!

Alas I can just dream about Menzel2Betts now... or should that be Temey/Graham2Betts and Menzel2Goals

Okay. I have counted we now have 40 senior listed players after this evening and 2 rookies.
Assuming we rookie Andy Collins it leaves us with 1 live pick in the rookie draft in December.
At least I think that is right.o_O

good call. I would rate them as about level now. Casboult has the edge as a pure forward because he knows the position and knows how and where to lead... he just has issues with his kicking. Hampson is a reasonable ruck/forward but he doesnt know where to lead to properly and has a few issues with his marking. His kicking for goal is pretty reasonable.

As I said, I would play Casboult in the FF position and Hampson in the FP. With Waite (or Rowe) at CHF then we have a very tall very unpredictable forward line and we can rotate both Hampson and Casboult through the ruck if we need to.

And besides which... with our history of our tall forwards falling in massive heaps over the course of the year, having 3 talls in our forward line is just cover for what can be considered the inevitable...

Will dump the profiles we wrote up in our phantom draft about the guys we drafted here.

Troy Menzel
Considered to be a top two talent alone on talent, Troy Menzel doesn’t look like joining up with his brother Danielat the Cats in a fairytale draft at this stage. After a nine-goal haul against Tasmania and a bag of six against Northern Territory, there is no questioning Menzel’s ability whatsoever; even his knees, a subject that people keep questioning.

Tom Temay
Tom Temay comes from a great pedigree; his father played 50-odd games with St Kilda, which was ultimately not enough to see his son qualify for a father-son selection. Nonetheless, Temay is a very good competitor, super aggressive and played as a lockdown small defender or as a freewheeling ball winner off half-back for Vic Metro – whichever was required of him – and averaged 18 disposals, also operating at 77% efficiency which is great for a player of his size.

Nick Graham
Nick Graham is a very crafty midfielder who is elusive and bedazzles opposition players with his ability to work his way through traffic, as well as sidestep and spin out of would-be tackles. Lauded for his ability to hit the scoreboard, Graham is a consistent goal kicker who doesn’t mind sneaking forward to hurt his opponent, highlighted by coming runner-up in the overall goal kicking in the TAC Cup. A prolific ball winner at TAC Cup level with the Gippsland Power, Graham also took home the coveted Morrish Medal as the TAC Cup’s best player in 2012. He could still very well go in the first round but looks as though he is sliding a little.

As someone who is utterly ignorant, what is it about Graham that made him slide?

Everything I read, he seems like a junior champ.

Our list looks so much more balanced now, despite only taking three selections.

With the greatest respect to their years of good service, Thornton, Bower and Russell had become something of positional nomads towards the end. Temay fills a glaring need, whilst we also add two mids to a rotation lacking a bit of depth (one who is pure class with a scary upside, the other a versatile type who also looks to also have pretty good ability as a forward).

Really hope to see Menzel earn a spot for R1, he will really add something to our forward setup. :thumbsu:

How much picks do we have in the rookie draft?

How did Sam Colquhoun not get drafted?
Colquhoun, Toy, Boston, Haynes all good options for a rookie pick

YESSSSSSSS great effort on the drafting this season Menzel and Graham were steals and although i dont know much about Temay he looks like the type we need.
I am now awaiting the Herald Sun and expecting a good grade, hoping they will not to take into account trade period but the picks on their merits.
