So did we ask for Reimers to train with us, or vice-versa?

Bit strange he never even fronted.:eek:
I'd be checking your herbal tea numbers... I reckon that Niall may have snuck in during the night and nicked a bit after reading that article.

I would believe that club in that we never approached Reimers about coming to train with us. And I firmly believe that we did the right thing in not approaching him.

Main board having a field day with the Reimers stuff. 4th player to reject us this preseason etc.
This news about Reimers is interesting. Someone pointed out that players can earn more money playing in the WAFL or SANFL than being a rookie at an AFL club. Maybe this is his reason.

Very odd that soo many players have just fallen off the map. Absolutely no word on Thornton, Bower, Toy etc
I was half expecting one of the new franchise clubs to at least look at T-Bird as a depth option. He isnt the worst player that they could pick up really... and compared to some of the muppets getting picked up as FA's, he would have to be gold dust really for a young and developing team.

Even Port could have used him for next season...

Tipungwuti says the player he idolises is Chris Yarran.....me too mate, me too :thumbsu:

Supports Carlton and reminds me of Eddie Betts in that he moved away from home to play TAC cup. Different sort of player though. Tippa plays more off half back and through the middle.
I wonder if we are looking at him... could definitely be a long term project as a rookie.

And with the way the game is now, thanks to Fat Vlad wanting a fast paced game to compete with NRL, clubs need a lot of players who can rotate through the midfield.

I guess the fact that a lot of clubs have drafted players with endurance rules out Josh Toy for Carlton and a lot of clubs. Might be worth a late rookie pick, but if his condition restricts his running, then he's going to struggle to make it. :(
Wouldn't be surprised if no one takes him.

Cloke, Lynch, Caddy.

We'll survive.
It's funny because we never actually made a play for these players.

Cloke: we were only going to look at if he decided to leave Collingwood;
Lynch: I'm not aware that we actually pursued him, our tight TPPs would indicate we didn't;
Caddy: We could only have offered Pick 11 for him, which was never going to happen, but the reality is the Suns were keen on Geelong's concession pick as they didn't have to use it this year. At the end of the day I believe Menzel was a much better option for our Pick 11 than Caddy.

I thought they were refering to players asked to train with us prior to the PSD/Rookie draft.

Of those 3 I think we only really chased Lynch.
Cloke wasn't really up to us
Caddy I think was all Bigfooty talk, more in the lines that the posters on here wanted him. Did anyone in the media actually say that we were chasing him?

Huh?

We made a play at each of them.

And yes, keeping pick 11 over Caddy was probably the right way to go.

We expressed an interest in Cloke, but couldn't do any more than that because he was still negotiating with Collingwood. He never ceased to be a Collingwood player, i.e never became a free agent, so we weren't able to pursue him.

As has been previously stated, as soon as Cloke was re-signed by Collingwood, we shut up shop for the FA/Trade Period as we did not have the wriggle room in our TPPs to participate without losing our own players, remembering that we already had factored in Thornton & Russell being free agents. Hence Lynch was never in the frame (why we would even consider pursuing a player whose previous club had told him he would be squeezed out by a younger player, when we have our own young KPFs coming through, defies logic). This would also have been made so by the AFL's change of heart on the Judd/Visy deal. As soon as that spanner was thrown in the works, we were done.

I'm not aware we made an official approach in relation to Caddy. This surely is borne out by the fact that Pick 11 was never on the trade table & GCS were always going to be keen on Geelong's concession pick, unless they received an offer too good to refuse. We may have made an informal approach to GCS to see where they were at, but realistically we were never actively pursuing Caddy.

I think we may have been but pretty happy that Collingwood came in over the top of us, but yes we were seriously looking at Lynch.
There were claims that Lynch and his manager were into Carlton, so we pulled out from chasing Lynch. Discussing all the available players doesn't mean we were committed to taking them.

.

Money would have been the issue with Lynch. I attended a lunch last week where Daniel Kerr was one of the guest speakers and Lynch is his best mate. He said that Lynch will earn more at Collingwood this year than he has over any of the last 3 years of the Eagles.
