Who would you like us to get, apart from Collins?
Personally I'd like to get an athletic freak like Wilkins, Allir, Irra or a lightning quick guy like Saad or Taylor and throw them in with our development coaches for two years and hopefully get the rest of their game up to AFL standard. That's what I'd use the rookie list for if it were me.

Picking the guys with stand out work ethic is also a good way to go, rookies don't have long to prove themselves and guys like Curnow, Ellard and Carrazzo give themselves every chance to succeed.

i dont think we should go for a mature player this time round, we just dont have the list space for them to have an immediate impact.
betters a project/atheletic freak as stated above

Former Carlton utility Bret Thornton could reactivate his career with Greater Western Sydney via Tuesday's rookie draft.

The Giants had looked to secure former Essendon big man Jason Laycock, who has been playing in Tasmania, but he has failed a medical. Laycock had spoken several times recently with Giants coach Kevin Sheedy. Thornton, 29, played 188 matches and was cut by the Blues in September. He was an unrestricted free agent but there was little interest from rival clubs during the trade period.

This might be more guess work after the Giants went out of their way to trade for Stephen Gilham. o_O

WA teenager Dayle Garlett faces second draft snub
"I'm not saying that he's an angel, but show me exactly what he's done that's been horrible," Harding said.

"These AFL clubs spend millions and millions of dollars on their footy departments. They have an exorbitant amount of resources at their disposal in terms of manpower and not one of those 18 clubs is going to back themselves to put the kid in their culture and give him an opportunity.

"At this stage they've left a kid still at WAFL level who is quite clearly in the top-five players, on talent, in the country."

"He's like any other young 18-year-old bloke that's just got his licence and can get into a nightclub or a pub and have a beer," he said.

"But what he needs to understand is that he's not like any other kid. I think he's got the potential to be an elite AFL player and if you're going to be able to do that then you have to prepare yourself differently to other 18-year-old kids."

It's probably too late to think straight, but Harding needs a tissue and to HTFU.

So, in 6 months this bloke has gone from a Top Ten draft pick, into the greatest flaming turd since 9/11??

Still take him.

MM (can't believe I'm saying it) and his gang should be able to punch the tripe back into him.
I guess all the clubs have done their home work.

Pass.

Siren goes, boy is 50 metres out, he's the one to take the kick, who do you want, the boy with the good attitude that trains real hard, or the boy with the gift??

10 years ago, these monkeys were doing IV drips at half time

5 years ago, these idiots were doing ice-baths

If you think Football people are intelligent, grab a saucepan and belt yourself in the head.

Nothing to do with intelligence Stig.

Many kids live the dream of playing AFL and become very disciplined in their everyday life to give themselves the best shot at a career in the AFL.

Trust me that they know what is expected of them well before they turn 18 and to go against all the advice that is given, cannot augur well for them being taken seriously irrespective of how well they can kick, mark and handball.

Nathan Krakouer was delisted, then did jail time on a GBH charge, then he played in a Grand Final. MM was the coach.

Nothing wrong with giving people a second chance if they've earned it.

Let's pick up the topic after the draft. It would be a shame for Garlett not to get picked up but if he wasn't, it would be a clear message that 18 clubs saw the risk too high for the reward.

There is no lesser risk in the AFL than a rookie pick. If he stuffs up he plays seconds for the Ants till he gets delisted. He pulls his head in and stars we are geniuses and have another gun mid on our hands. Too good to pass up IMO if ESS pass on him as is now suggested. Will play very little anyway as we have our nominated upgrades already. If anything could turn out to be a huge trade chip for a homesick kid stuck in WA.

We're wasting a lot of time discussing a kid we're probably not even going to have the chance to pick (Bombers).

For all we know, some smokey like Bell is in waiting.
I read last week that Essendon's one pick in the rookie draft will be used on Ariel Steinberg. If it's true then I suppose Garlett is there for the taking.

Mind you another Bell would be handy.

they'd select him in the PSD. Considering we haven't invited anyone to train with us and the issues surrounding our cap space, I'd say we're focusing on the rookie draft.

My bad Zee - I got thrown by the opening line in the following article and thought he was only available in the rookie draft: http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/wa...econd-draft-snub/story-fnelctok-1226532833645

GIFTED WA youngster Dayle Garlett is facing the prospect of being snubbed for the second time in Tuesday's AFL rookie draft.

Should of known better, it was written by a Quartermaine....

We've all forgotten about Marcon haven't we?

He and Lambert looked likely to go to a club only a few months back.
Yeah no doubt those two will have been looked at by many clubs. Hope Marcon gets a chance at a club needing more mids. Lambert needs another good year before he gets picked IMO.

Wonder if there are any others that have flown under the radar.
