My friends brother played with him for WA this season.
Apparently he and Martin do this trick where they lob a semi-hospital handpass up to another player so they're forced to give the give-n-go handpass back haha

Richmond pulled Conca out of the 2nd round (general consensus at the end of the U18 championships) to take as a first round pick 2 years ago, a bit like the Dogs did with Howard. So you never know what will be around at pick 11.

It's a hard one. Will they take a risk and draft a Ruckman with a top 3 pick (their treatment of Giles would suggest they don't rate a ruckman as a high priority ATM, but is that because they see themselves drafting Grundy). Do they want to put more talent into their midfield or defense ? Or would they be willing to sacrifice a top 3 pick to further strengthen their other picks (eg would they be willing to trade #3 and #12 for #5 and #6, forgoing say Toumpas, who the WB would be desperate to get into their side, for the ability to get say Plowman and Macrae/O’Rourke who otherwise would be gone by #12.


I would say they have 3 options

a) kick-ass midfield to combat the Juggernaut being created by the GCS's

1) Whitfield
2) Toumpas
3) Wines

b) Improve both their midfield and ruck division. The GCS's have a number of ruckman ATM, with Smith, Gorringe and Nicholls developing (and assuming Hickey is moving on). To help combat this they could go

1) Whitfield
2) Grundy
3) Toumpas

c) The all-round strengthening of the team. This would be where they trade #3 and #12 for #5 and #6 and recruit players accross the board. By doing this they will probably miss out on a Toumpas but could end up with quality mids, ruck and defenders. It could look something like

1) Whitfield
2) Grundy
3) (WB) Toumpas)
4) (Melb) Wines
5) Plowman
6) Macrae/O'Rourke/Mayes/Garner (someone would would be going top 10 who they won't have access to at #12)
13) A "wild card" player who may slip such as a Stinger/Garlett/Menzel or someone not taken at #6

Wouldn't be surprised if GWS take the punt that Plowman slides to pick 12. Hurley is the only key backman that springs to mind taken top 10 in the last few years and he has been moved forward. McCarthy was talked up as a 1st rounder but was a massive slider. I think the theory is you can find good defenders down the draft or convert forwards that aren't quite up to it at the highest level.
