The draft sounds brilliant. We'll be choosing from an injured player, a manchild with poor endurance, a midget, someone who might be unprofessional and a player with an awkward marking style. Win-win.

The draft is like an ATM that gives you fifties when you were hoping for twenties. #Poorman'sthylacine

Hope we pick the right player.

Thanks Zee, for the mock draft. Perhaps too we can get 'Kreuze' Garlett delisted by the Kangas and Chris Yarran with a rookie pick. ;)

Naysayers are saying this draft tails off after about 30 but I for one am disappointed we haven't managed yet to upgrade our picks - breaks my heart to see Collingwood trade a couple of spuds for an additional 2 picks inside 25. :(

That seems to be the language coming out quite regularly.
The first dozen or so are premium and then the talent drops off a bit.

Lemming/others, do we see any possible smokey's getting into the top ten, this year?

EDIT: Are you doing a Phantom Draft this year Lemming?
Someone might like Garner.

Have you seen a lot of Mason Shaw?

Are you a fan?

Have not seen a heap of him, but between what I've seen and heard, not the biggest fan of his performance. He seemed to play his best football when allowed to play in the ruck and I am just not sure at AFL level if he can play that role.

He's done okay at colts level due to his height.

I would not personally have him in my top 20, then again, I always struggle to rate tall players and I think the talls are often where recruiters can make the big calls.

Just looking back at the likes of a Darling, Kersten that camebefore Shaw and they dropped a lot lower than people thought.

Not sure a bolter will come from this years draft pool.

Not sure I will do a Phantom Draft, the people that help me spot talent in SA and Victoria are not as forth coming with information as in previous years. The wife has also had a kid, so not many chances to watch local football. I may do one for fun again and get as much information as I can possibly find and put something together.

The speculation is killing my bandwagons. :)

There will be plenty of bandwagons to jump on board. I honestly think this year may be a good year to pick up a quality tall defender in the second round. Still have a feeling that we need to build on our midfield so that is where we could go with our first pick, depending on how the players fall.

I would be very surprised if we don't go for a midfielder with our first pick. Now is the time to start our succession plan for the likes of Judd, Carrazzo & Simpson.

You could say the same thing about our need to replace Jamison, Waite...

I've not heard how Stringer's medicals have gone, but what if someone like him is available with our first pick?

What is someone like Plowman is around at our pick?

Stranger things have happened and I know supporters hate this term, but best available makes the most sense, assuming it is not a ruckman. (which Grundy is the only viable ruckman this year)

I was thinking the opposite. The pure inside and hard mids we need might be gone. I won't be disappointed if we go either way. If we get Garlett, I hope the move to Melbourne is the tonic that turns him into a professional footballer. Similar move to Yarran who had a lot of question marks against him pre-draft. Mick has a pretty good understanding and development record with indigenous players.

I reckon Jesse Lonergan (see the link on my post above) would be a good fit. Could well become our next Judd. AFL ready now, tough inside mid and is up there with the elite in Draft combine stats:

http://www.contestedfooty.com/2012/10/jesse-lonergan-2012-afl-draft-prospect/

Lonergan finished equal first in the goal kicking test, second in the standing vertical jump (83 centimeters), third in the running vertical jump (91 centimeters) and seventh in the repeat sprints (25.12 seconds).

Whilst those tests all indicate Lonergan is a powerfully built player, most already knew that, the pleasing results were his three kilometer run time (10.55) and his 13.4 result on the beep test.

A Solid inside mid at 181cm, with an equal standing vertical leap of Nic Natanui , and first class goal kicking abilities has got to be worth taking with our first pick.

Just gone through a process of elimination as to who we are unlikely to see at #11.
Most of these seem pretty set to go in the top ten across a cross section of phantoms, but would we take any one of these should they drop?

Whitfield
Toumpass
Grundy
Macrae
O'Rourke
Plowman
Mayes
Wines
Daniher

That makes for 9 players we're unlikely to see with only one selection to be taken before our #11

Next grouping that sit in most peoples top 20:

Garlett
Menzel
Stringer
Jacksh
Membrey
Vlastuin
Kennedy

Are we likely to see a player from this lot and if so, which one and why?

Hope like hell one of those in the first 9 drop...

Garlett, Stringer, Menzel are all great options and they all have their worries from attitude to injuries.
