O.K. then.

1. Whitfield
2. Grundy
3. Toumpas
4. Stringer
5. Plowman
6. Garlett
7. Mayes
8. Wines
9. Garner
10. ??????????? Let me think about it.
This would mean we could end up with McCrae. After watching the clip on HS today I would be stoked if he was to slide to 11. As much I like the idea of Stringer, I am not sure his performances this year deserve a pick 4 and is a high risk /reward pick.

But like anytime you buy off the internet without seeing the merchandise live, you aren't really sure what you are getting.

Mick said no action from us in the trade period and free agency, because our list is fine, well he obviously thinks so, and so do I, thanks for the honesty coach, can't wait to see which way you go with our draft picks :)

Hopefully mids with a speculative forward/ruck in the rookie draft

Sounds like there will be a few good ones left at our pick, shame we couldn't swindle a pick in the teens for knockers

I want Vlastuin or Jaksch for needs and my man crushes. I'd be rapt with Kennedy, Macrae or Garlett, but I want a Waite type swingman or a monster mid who can hurt players. Think we'll back in our talls, so I'd like to see Kreuzer, Robinson, Bell and Vlastuin in our midfield long term. Hopefully crunching players.

Not sure that Flosstone would be ecstatic with Carlton picking him.

:p

Future in good Nick
A midfielder, tagged by Vic Metro coach Rohan Welsh as a Michael Voss-type of player, Vlastuin averaged 17 disposals at the recent nationals.

Vlastuin resists any discussion regarding the draft and, instead, insists landing on an AFL list is not the end of his journey, but only the beginning.
"I try not to think about it too much," he said.

"It's not a given, you still need to work hard to get there.

"The average AFL career is only a few seasons, so getting drafted doesn't mean you're guaranteed to be a superstar.

"The work only begins once you're there."
Future in good Nick

I can just see us going for a hard mid.

Hope Nick fits with Rogers speed is King call. :D

I'm really warming to the idea of FLOSSTON!

Shame he is a pies supporter, we can work that out quickly. Dentistry is like a lobotomy to a Collingwood supporter, no?

Coach's pet, great disposal, hard at it, natural leader, where do I sign?

If either of O'Rourke or Stringer are available, GET THEM!!
If not it will be a decision between Macrae Kennedy and Vlastuin you'd think
I don't pretend to know these guys, but O'Rourke won't get through. Stringer and Menzel with their injury history scare the bejeezus out of me.

I can see us taking Garlett if he's there. Just feel we have enough X factor and speed at the moment, but not enough meat and potatoes players at the coal face. The type of hard mids that Geelong, Hawthorn, Norf and WC draft. Just look at the likes of Parker, Bird, McGlynn, Kennedy and Jack coming into Sydney's side ahead of Veszpremi and Jed Lamb. Sydney did to the Hawks what they always do to us. Made their harder mids look like girls and outside players in a GF. Get more grunt.

Menzel's is a LARS surgery kneee injury, the kind of thing that could reoccur, thats why i don't want us to take him. LARS surgery is yet to wrok at AFL level is it??
String on the other hand is just a break and by round 1 it will have been almost 2 years since the break. Breaks don't reoccur and i believe (based off looking at Barlow) that he will return to his best and in that case getting Stringer at #11 would be around a 10 position steal in the draft in four years time :P

Do you mean you "can" see us or "can't" see us because i agree Garlett is too outside for our needs and has some issues off field and I feel there will always be that issue, possibly lack of commitment and i have the sense go home factor could always come into play.

Any of Vlastuin, Lonergan would be super tough inside types like the Syndey/Hawks boys and Macrae or Kennedy are pure skill, any of those four i'd still be happy with.

I'm thinking we'll have good choices at 11 which is effectively 7 minus Whitfield, Toumpas, Grundy and Daniher.

Melb at 4 take a ball winning mid after losing Moloney. O'Rourke or Wines.
WB can't afford to gamble and should take a ball player and a defender. Plowman and one of the above.
Port will take a SA kid with good skills. Mayes.
Richmond will take a ball winner. Lonergan.
Brisbane need a big. Clurey or Jacksch.
ESS done.
Carl take the gamble and go for the Xfactor. Stringer.

If they take Vlastuin, I'm happy. Don't see it though with an array of mids already. A 191 cm bull that can play anywhere on the field and is quality is just too good to pass up. The quintessential ruck rover who can rest forward. Allows other to be released up field in either direction. Gimme gimme gimme.

Not at all convinced it is as clear cut as this, if Gibbs/Lucas/Yarran step up into the midfield not sure our mid field needs are as great as what some are making out, l expect Malthouse to put the pressure on Gibbs and play him midfield all season.

I Would not discount Kristian Jaksch being taken in the 8-12 range, decent key position players are hard to find and he looks a very likely type, if Mayes or O'Rourke we will probably have no hesitation in picking either of these two, but expect Jaksch to be seriously in the mix, whilst Kennedy is a very good player not sure you can have two very small players like Murphy/Kennedy in the tough contested footy that has been so common these days.

Stringer is now at the top of my wish list (from watching highlights).

Tested Perfect in goal kicking and best in the clean hands test, big solid mid.

Assuming our chances of him being available aren't great?

By my calculations, Carlton has 4 picks in the National Draft & 1 in the Rookie Draft?

Could one of our more knowledgeable posters confirm whether or not this is the correct?

Don't see how Garlett can be too outside for us but Macrae acceptable. Garlett has shown more contested ball winning ability than Macrae so far (although I'm expecting Macrae will end up shining as a ball winner, but Garlett has the potential to improve too). Garlett is a strong bodied player who has played a lot of footy as an on baller, mainly in his own age group but he's still done it well. Not sure how him announcing he would like to go to a Victorian club to move away from his past in WA indicates there would be a go home factor, sounds like some stereotyping going on. I doubt any club would choose Lonergan over Garlett.

I want Stringer.
Any chance WB would pass on him?

Draft range: Membrey will likely be taken somewhere between picks 10 and 20 at the NAB AFL Draft. He is the sort of fierce competitor who could really add something to Carlton's forward mix with the Giants and North Melbourne also good fits.

In his own words: "[Recruiters] know I can play forward, but they'd like to see me push up the ground a bit more and play a bit more of a higher role and on the ball. They'd like to see me get my fitness up [too]. Coming into an AFL club, I obviously wouldn't be a key tall, so I've got to learn that third tall role, where it's about leading into space, then getting out of it, or giving second and third leads."

Unless Walker plays further up the ground, I don't really see Membrey fitting into forwardline if the price is pick 11. Might be picked late teens/early twenties IF he hasn't shown that he can play midfield and other positions.
