Yeah I just threw his name up as a notable state player. Not going to push the cause too much.

Would Port take O'Rourke over Mayes or stick to the local boys?

I'd think Mayes for both the local and class factors. O'rourke would be attractive nonetheless

Mr Versatile
"He's been outstanding this year with his leadership, and willingness to change his game from a key forward. We made a conscious decision to develop him as a player down back and we have been absolutely rapt with his willingness to learn another position. It makes him more of a 'draftable' player and more of a commodity to AFL ranks." - Oakleigh Chargers region manager Mart Smart.

"I think I'm pretty unique in that you can't narrow me down to one position. I think that's something clubs would find interesting. I can genuinely plays those two roles and have the ability to play either end."

Plays like: Jaksch is versatile, a little like Hawthorn's Jarryd Roughead. Roughead is just as capable in attack as he is holding down a stopping role in defence, and has also been used in the ruck. Jaksch showed signs the ruck wasn't beyond him in the last quarter of Oakleigh's TAC Cup Grand Final win over Gippsland, winning some important hit-outs.

Jaksch is unique...

If we don't get Jaksch, then Mart Smart should be headhunted for a job at Carlton.

Jaksch has a good leap after he won a few taps against Brodie Grundy in the centre circle. Grundy's Kreuzer type approach made their number one ruckman take his eyes off the ball at Alberton Oval. Jaksch didn't look intimidated going up against the bigger and heavier Grundy.

Reckon Jaksch is more like Waite who is more athletic and agile than Roughead. Though Jaksch would probably be a better kick than Waite.

from the way they're going over there in the draft board, if kennedy was 5-10cm taller, stringer and menzel didn't get injured they would all go top 5 on talent. Whitfield, Toumpas, Stringer, Kennedy, Menzel.
so I reckon if stringer or menzel stay healthy, or kennedy can adjust to afl level we'll be having a massive steal.

Totally agree that pick 11 should net us a really good/gun player. Would be happier with pick #8 or #9, but no doubt, the type of player we are after will make it to our pick. I am just going to put faith in SR and the recruitment team that they will get it right.

I am unsure how our next 2-3 picks will turn out. Would love to get a slider with our 2nd pick. Would be a dream if say Membrey, Hrovat, Simpson, Shaw, Broomhead, Colquhoun or Haynes reached our 2nd pick.

Things that would make draft day better would be if GWS took Kurt Tippett with pick 3 and Melbourne had pick 4 taken from them. It killed me when we had our picks taken from us, but with them getting Viney in the second round, Jess Hogan next year and Dom Barry, they still have done very well out of this draft and next...

Yep I say strip them of their 1st rd selections this year, and their 1st rd and 2nd rd picks next year. They can still get Viney and Barry this year, plus who ever their pick up late in the draft, along with Hogan next year. What REALLY screwed us over is our penalties struck just as we started on the downward slide as far as our list was concerned, so we had very few decent kids plus lost any chance of recruiting more in. Melbourne are (supposedly) at the end of a rebuild, and will still be getting some decent kids in plus they already have a stockpile of kids on their list. I don't think draft penalties would hit them as hard as they hit us.

Possibilities:

#11: Definitely going to the best young talent. (there will be no Tippett or anyone else here, for that matter)

#36: Most likely another kid, but if Jacobs is still here we may be tempted.

#56: Again, its most likely there will still be a kid of interest for us here.

#71: If by some miracle we get someone we rated a #30 odd left here, we would likely bite otherwise we may just opt between possibly Collins/Reimers type.

#76: Most likely nothing but if we haven't signed on everyone just yet (See Duigan) and something unbelievable falls here, it may be possible for us to use this pick.

Rookie: We'll take just the one rookie if Curnow has been promoted to the primary list.

Collins going nowhere...
