Herald-Sun: Find out who your club is predicted to take in Thursday's national AFL draft
11. Carlton
JACKSON MACRAE
HEIGHT: 188cm
CLUB: Oakleigh Chargers
Blues must add midfield depth and Macrae has lots of tricks. Evasive outside runner has excellent vision and goal nous.

*changes my top 20*

Macrae could be the one due to Mayes being a good fit for Brisbane or Richmond. Unless Grundy slides past Port and we get a shot at Vlastuin.

Hrovat to Norf and Ben Kennedy at 30.

Pick Me: Jackson Macrae could be the next Scott Pendlebury
MICK Malthouse had midfield star Scott Pendlebury at Collingwood, and there's a growing possibility he'll coach the next version at Carlton.

"When he gets the ball he changes the speed of the game, the angles of the game and always bites off the harder option,’’ King, who coached Macrae at Carey Grammar, said.

"I think he’ll be an outstanding half-forward flank with really good lateral moves. He’ll definitely play 100 games and I’d be staggered if he didn’t play in 2013.

"For me it’s his ability to baulk and embarrass players.’’

"His ability to make smart decisions in space is outstanding,’’ Chargers region manager Mark Smart said.

Skinny ****er, but we have to think long term.

NAB AFL Combine Results: 20m Sprint - 2.95 secs (Top 24%) Agility - 8.40 secs (Top 20%)

Article in the HUN quotes Mick saying just how quiet our boys are and he hopes we are more boisterous on the field. Sorry Mick, all saints compared to the freaks you used to coach.

Saw Rhys Shaw on a Pies TV thing once and was legitimately frightened. He was in good company with Swan, Fasolo and the biggest nut case of all, Heritier.

Describes himself as a HFF, hmm...

Really hope we get a chance to choose from Vlastuin, Kennedy, Stringer. I trust Shane Rogers with whatever but would be happiest within myself with one of those three.

I put it in the media thread :)

From the Macrae thread...
How far does the Hawks Sam Mitchell kick it?

There should be a slab of beer to the 1st player who can lay a tackle on him. :p
I guess my argument is that Jackson has many good assets as a footballer. His speed is okay/adequate but not super. He often doesn't kick 50 but tends to spot up targets more in 25-40 range. If you saw the goal he kicked from the boundary on 50 in 1 of the finals at Visy you might change you mind because he can kick longish when he wants.

The Characteristics that should be highly prized are all the best aspects that Mitchell and Macrae possess i.e. clean, evasive, creative, poised, consistent.

Obviously he needs work as all 18yr olds do but he sure ticks alot of boxes

Do people think Travis Tuck might be worth a late pick IF he has his head on straight now ??? He could come relatively cheap (pick him up late in the ND, if he has nominated of course), would add to our midfield depth and would allow us to be more flexible with what we do with #11.

I originally wanted a pure inside mid with #11, but Wines will almost certainly e gone, as could Vlastuin. I have too many question marks regarding Stringer and his leg (his break sounds too much like Brown's, and he was never the same again) and I would rather not add to our midget army (Ellard/AJ/Murphy) with Kennedy or Hrovat at #11). If a more outside player such as Macrae/Mayes happened to slide then I would feel more comfortable selecting them if they were also playing on going for Tuck later on.

Would rather Benny Duscher tbh.

Jesse Lonergan.

So the elite talent should only be picked if we're planning to get a meat and potatoes plodder with a later pick?

:D

Whats your dream first choice pick to suit your club?
During the year the boys asked dayle garlett what team would you like to play afl for. he replied,
well i would preffer and rather not play footy or live in queensland, adelaide ,sydney with the new teams and the other teams like
the cats, tigers, freo, north melb, blues he cant see himself playing for them as not a fan of them growing up so hopefully not them teams will be sweet. but the the rest is ok, so guys would you rather a player like vlastuin, jasksch, kennedy, clurey, stringer ect that are keen to play with pride as there is so many great kids around ?

Listen Dayle,

You're going to play for whoever picks you, c'apish?

I don't care if you want to stay in WA :)

No I want the meat and potato area covered, as it is a weakness of ours. If we are planning on doing that later in the draft with an experienced player then go right on ahead and grab the best outside play you can at #11 ;). Don't get me wrong, I would be over the moon with wither Macrae or Mayes, just want some more grunt players too.

As for Lonergan, I just think #11 is reaching too much for him and wouldn't consider him over a Mayes/Macrae.

I really like the look of Macrae's footy style and smarts. It looks like he has more time then all the other players and makes great decisions. He is a HFF, but it wouldn't surprise me if we did take him and he did play seniors next year, that his skill and awareness would be a handy addition as a HBF. We put Gibbs into the backline for his use of the ball and I never cringe when he has ball in hand coming out of the backline.

My preference is definitely Vlastuin or Mayes, but would be more than happy if we took Macrae. A player that is said to be a similar type to Penders is all good for me.

Under a week to go now. Wow, this time including trade time to now is HELL!!!!!!!!

We'd need someone to do something stupid or throw a curve ball for Macrae or Mayes to slide that far.

Menzel could still go at 12. They may have re-interviewed him, but we just assume that's to take him top three, rather than with picks 12 or 14. They might want to pot the Suns who could also take the risk with 13.

Still more than six days to go with the draft at night.

So you reckon the possible top 10 picks who will slide are Menzel, O'Rourke and Stringer?
As far as my phantom goes I don't do it based on who I think/hear will go somewhere, I do it on where i think they should go. O'Rourke is highly rated, Menzel could go high if a team isn't out off by his knee but I do expect Stringer to slide.

I'll be real disappointed if they take Macrae at 11. To me, and its just my opinion, he's a weak bodied outside mid/flanker, who cant kick it long, generally gets his possessions through link up rather than in close, has a poor tank and is flashy, in and out of the play. He'll get found out in the big boys. Easy to look good in the TAC and having just now watched two highlight reels of him, he wasnt that impressive there either. Winds around and throws it onto his left foot mostly and rarely hits a target up, no real leg speed either. No thanks. Plenty of others I'd take first. Just dont get the hype.

i agree very risky. he could be a sidebottom/thomas type but he could just as easily be a complete bust.
when picking i hope our recruitment department puts one thing above all else, WORK ETHIC.
a top 10 pick with great work ethic will become a good player.

so i know we all have favorites or players we would like to get at our pick, but i want to know who are we most likely to get at our pick.
i guess there will be a bunch of players each side of 11 that we could take.

would Jaksch, Vlastiun, Macrae and kennedy be a good starting point, anyone else fit in this area?
