Fair enough... Who were the next 2 picks?
Who was picked at seven, nine, 10, 11, 15, 16 and 19?

Rendell wanted a mid in Lucas, only to go for Talia because he couldn't pass him up.

Shame Lucas, Bower and White aren't on your buddy list like Mark Austin, Andrew Collins and Bryce Gibbs...

I would be happy recruiting Menzel but you would have to do it in the knowledge that he will most likely need his knee redone when his LARS gives way in the future

Spot on. It will give way. In fact they'd consider putting him straight in the week after the draft, and have him tickety boo for 2014

Have the club ruled out Garlett if he's still there in 2nd round?

Speaking to Emma Quayle on twitter and she said he could be there in the 20s or even latter. As of yesterday Pies were leaning towards a no for Garlett in 1st round.

From what I've heard it's still unclear if he can have a traditional knee reco or not depending on how big the holes they drilled in his knee are.

Nothing wrong with White or Lucas but I have to say that talent alone will never get you to the top...

White busts his gut every week and usually gets a player with 5+cm on him, which is a credit to his efforts...

Could you say the same about Lucas?? This is the reason picks like Lucas tick me off, as the recruiters are well aware of the habits of potential draftees...

From all reports Collins is flying at the moment and has done extras after the season finished as he knew he would need to step it up...

Forget favourites, just put in...

You forgot my other favs. in Yarran, Murph, Tex, Hendo and a few others... All high picks that put in, even at the Ants...

Lucas isn't Dayle Garlett or the other Chris Yarran who if the reports are accurate, lack what you're referring to.

Our Chris Yarran's first season was poorer than Lucas' first season.

Lucas has already had both hips operated on, so he's clearly done the work after playing eight games last year. Those operations would have been a big reason why he played just two games in 2011. IIRC, Ratts praised him for getting his body right to play in a VFL game where he was in the best players.

After six seasons, Collins is funnily enough, Grigg-like due to his inconsistent decision making and disposal. If effort was all that mattered, then Joseph and Ellard would be first 22 players.

If Garlett somehow slides through to our second pick we could honestly walk away from this draft and trade week and season with a Geelong esque amount of future talent.
Quite simply Dayle Garlett is the undoubted best midfielder out of WA this year
What he does have is skills, and tricks
What he doesn't have is attitude and fitness

Which one of those groups can we work on? Luckily for anyone who picks him up, the second.

Dayle Garlett at #36 is the definition of a steal, and we should take it.

Could you imagine Stringer/Menzel/Vlastuin/Macrae + Dayle Garlett to add to our young midifelders in Bell + O'Keefe + Lucas + Robinson
Surely there would be enough there to help Murphy + Gibbs out in the future.

I hope carlton take Jesse lonergan with pick 11 if still available this kid will play 200 games and is a strong quick and his kicking is elite. No risk selection especially with Judd and pushing 30

His kicking is a weakness. But he does look quick and very tough.

The over/underrated thread is an interesting read. BF 'experts' diagnose who will bolt and who will slide, which probably means little in the overall scheme of things.

From the sounds of things we should pick Lonergan or Kennedy at pick 11 as they're the least overrated. :p

We have a potential bargain if Sam Colquhuon slips to pick 36 - voted underrated by most, which probably means he'll be gone by pick 25. ;)

Was a weakness mid year but got his crap together and was in the top 3 at the Draft Combine. Shows how hard he's prepared to work.
I don't think it's a weakness, nor is it elite. He's a decent kick but it's much more important to see what he does in games under match situation pressure than what he does at the combine.

Wouldn't be surprised if Josh Simpson is in considerations at our pick. Just a hunch.

To be honest, of all the players likely to go around our pick, Simpson is probably the one I've given the least consideration to, for whatever reason.

Thinking about it now a little, it would make a whole lot of sense for us to call out his name on Thursday evening, given SR's comments earlier in the year that speed is king.

Stringer finally has a leg to stand on
Stringer had a long metal rod removed from his leg in February, as well as three screws. He was told he would walk out of hospital later the same day, but when he came to he looked down and realised his leg was a mess again, that he wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon.

''I was stooged,'' he grumbles, recalling another two weeks on crutches.

When recruiters have visited, asking Stringer about his limp, his running gait, and whether he'll be able to play full-time in the midfield again, his mother Donna longs to show them a photo from the hospital bed less than six months ago. Really, Stringer has overcome two serious injuries in the past two years.
