Yazz got nominated Round 1 against the Tigers in 2010 I think

Robbo was robbed of a nomination that same year.
Even though Jeff Garlett finished sixth in the 2010 Rising Star, it took him 19 rounds to get one. Funny that they usually go to the earlier picks. Shane Rogers said he spoke to Kevin Sheehan and tried to get one for McInnes, but they gave the last two to Treloar and Blease who are AIS Academy graduates. Rising Star Awards appears to be all about making the draft system look good. Lot of the classy and gun nominees don't even poll votes. Rising Star Award is the AFL equivalent of the Logies.

Watson, Lucas, McInnes, Laidler and Bootsma have the ability to get one, so I don't really care what the panel think.

i thought i heard he was an ex basketballer

I think that's true. I meant rather than a promising athletic prospect though.

Correct Jake was a basketballer, and a very good athletic one at that with a huge motor.

Was touted as a potential superstar of the AFL and gave up elite level basketball programs soon after he tore up the U/16 National Championships in Tassie in 2009 to concentrate on his football development.

I saw his injury on a video clip and it was horrific, like Voss, Brown, Snell etc, hope he can get back to full capacity in terms of athleticism, speed and power.

. Am hoping that this year we find a real gem in what has been dubbed the "draft of all drafts". Could do with a young, quality inside mid. Wines is looking the goods, although that could be wishful thinking

i would think wines should/would be the top of the recruiters wish (dare i say over whitfield:oops:)
the guy sounds like a clone of jimmy bartel, strong over head mark, elite endurance and a hard nut attitude.

Think of our onball unit if we net Stringer....

R: Kreuzer Stringer Bell

:oops::confused:

“Left-footed small forward/midfielder with explosive pace and rare agility. Prolific ball winner who excels at stoppages and is extremely dangerous around goals with set shots or snaps. In 2011 won All-Australian NAB AFL Under 18 Championship honours as a bottom-aged player and debuted at senior level. Backed it up this year with All-Australian honours, averaging 26.2 disposals.”

Adelaide wanted him but apparently thought GWS were asking too much.
They secured Brad Crouch and Luke Brown in exchange for pick 10 and their Davis compensation pick. Crows possibly could have got Kennedy if they wanted him.

Not a bad return to get Crouch, Brown, Kerridge, Jenkins, Grigg, Johnston and Lynch after losing Armstrong, Maric, Gunston and Davis.

Yeah cheers, only recently started following this foot ball thing so hadn't heard Crows supporters trying to pump Crouch up as being better than O'Meara every day :p

Here's an article related to what I was talking about.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/118480/default.aspx

ADELAIDE has all but ruled out making a play for Glenelg teenager Ben Kennedy in a complicated bidding system that will see Greater Western Sydney auction off access to a pool of eligible 17-year-olds to the club, or clubs with the highest bid.

Adelaide made an informal approach to GWS about the classy ball winner, but walked away from the conversation doubting they would be willing pay the Giants' hefty asking price.

Why is Kennedy better than Crouch?

Legit question rather than being an argumentative smart arse. I don't know them, but one is a "midget" by AFL standards. The other looks like he'll be a solidly built mid down the track. Bit of a manchild.

Crunch time
Crouch feels the same, but he really, really wants to know what's going to happen next week. A fast, powerful midfielder from Ballarat, he is not considered too far behind O'Meara in the pecking order; if he doesn't get picked up, he already looms as a high choice in next year's draft. He has been interviewed by six clubs this week, and wanted badly to ask them what they really think will happen next week. But like the other boys, he knows he must wait.

Who said he was? South Australian talent that Adelaide were mad keen on but considered the GWS offer unreasonable so they went after Crouch instead and were successful. Knowing the way the Crows trade though it was probably a perfectly fair deal but they couldn't get away with another robbery.

The basis that GWS traded one, but not the other. The Giants may have been unreasonable in their demands for a South Australian the Crows valued.

A 'Bush Telegraph' article in the Sunday Hun rates the top 10 Country Victoria footballers (somebody may be able to provide a link). At number 1 is Grant Weeks who plays for Golden Square. So far this season he has kicked 141 goals, last year 130 and the year before 157. He is 23yo, 189cm and 98kg. Anybody know anything about him and why he is not playing AFL?

Was bit of a tweener at 189cm, fairly physically developed and not a great deal of tricks, was predominantly played as a lead up forward and don't recall him spending any time on ball.....Ben McKinley might be a decent AFL comparison...obviously a great country full forward.

I would have thought it a very strong competition Splendid1, stronger than Northern League (old Diamond Valley) and there is no way Ben McKinley would kick 100gls playing in it and this GW is kicking well over the ton. Anyone up that way fill us in on the comp - are there a couple of teams where a bloke can kick 15+ because other than that this guys record is incredible at 23yo. The article suggested Peter Knights rated him. (so I guess the proof would be in Hawthorn showing interest)

Any international rookies this year? Čiarán Bŷrne is on the radar, but he just got accepted into a construction course in Dublin so I don't know if he's still coming out.

That is a lot of goals.
Would need to see footage or an article, but that consistency of goal scoring has to be worth something.

It seems that Ciaran Kilkenny is not particularly keen to come down just yet, saying it's 50/50.

Didn't hear any news on how Ciaran Byrne went when he was down here last month.
Not sure how to even go about finding out. Pity someone didn't ask Rogers when he was available on The Hangout.

It was mentioned on Blue Print but he did not want to tip off the opposition recruiters. ..

Are we back in the running for Stringer? :)

If we lose to the saints and Richmond beat port we'll land pick 9 (discounting essendums f/s pick) which should give us a really good chance to land stringer, wines or o'rourke... Guess that's the best outcome this year after the crap we just dished up.
