I'm wary of a "Jack Darling" shell game with Garlett. Is it just a smokescreen to ensure he stays in Perth, or is he the new Lovett?

I have no idea as I have no inside information. However if it what is reported is true regarding the number of clubs who have been turned off him due to whatever he has done, then you have to back the judgement of the recruiters and people on the inside who are privvy to certain pieces of information, don't you?

Down the track if he manages to turn it around and become a quality footballer, then good on him for doing so. I won't be regretting not picking him up if we currently believe his issues are not worth bringing to the club.

I would, except all of those recruiters and people on the inside - aside from West Coast's - fell for the Jack Darling shell game.

I don't know what Garlett has done and I'm not going to speculate on it. But from all reports it's been serious enough to turn most clubs off him so quite clearly it's not something that can simply be brushed under the carpet and ignored.

Don't forget that Eddie Betts was overlooked completely in his draft year because of off field issues. But having said that, he was Victorian so none of those issues involved being in a different time zone to his family.

West Coast will snap up Garlett for a low pick with nothing to lose and all to gain.

There were serious and seemingly legitimate questions over Darling, relating to his character.

We know he's exceptionally talented and it looks as though he's been able to get over those issues, a credit to him and the Eagles that being the case. I don't consider us passing on him to be a mistake as such, as I'm pretty confident that the player we selected ahead of him will turn out to be a seriously good footballer for many years.

Wouldn't be surprised if Laine Wilkins is in the mix at 35. Simpson at 11 and Wilkins at 35 are my smokies.

Would not mind Simpson at all. In these days of rolling mauls you can't have too much x factor.

Getting a tad excited now. I can't claim to be the most informed recruiter here by any stretch but it seems to me that there are more than 11 worthy candidates for our pick so we are gonna get a good one no matter what.

Wines or Menzel would make me very happy indeed, as would Simpson, Stringer and McRae.

Eddie ain't Victorian, his mum brought him over to get him away from bad influences and focus on his footy. I think he is originally from Kalgoorlie? But also spent time around Adelaide??

 Don't make shit up. Eddie had some problems early in his teens whence his Mum moved him from Kalgoorlie to Melbourne. 3 years before he was drafted.

His missed the draft because he was under-sized and lacking fitness due to suffering osteitis pubis in 2004.

Been kind of surprised we haven't been linked to this bloke a bit more, considering Rogers' public comments on targeting speed and skill

If Wines, McRae, Menzel, Mayes and Vlastuin are all gone, I hope Simpson is next in line. No expert but his highlights reel at the championships is absolutely outstanding.

I stand corrected. I didn't know the fitness issues were injury related, I thought I had read they were to do with other issues. Nor that he was from WA. Surprised that the WA Blues crew have not made a big deal of it.

Apologies to Eddie for any slight on his character.

And for the record, I did not make it up. I got it wrong. There is a big difference Azul.

That could work in our favour if the planets align tonight...

1. Whitfield
2. O'Rourke
3. Plowman
4. Toumpas
5. Macrae
6. Stringer
7. Mayes
8. Jaksch
9. Vlastuin
11. Wines

Brisbane might take Wines to replace Black, but if they're drafting for needs, why wouldn't they take Vlastuin to be a hard mid?

Still hoping Wines can get through.

You can see them going for Jaksch to be their replacement for Henderson. You're not getting the next Jonathan Brown at pick eight.

Don't hold your breath. Would be stoked to get Wines, but I think Menzel would be much more likely (and I will still be pretty stoked).

Think we'd be looking for harder players with Rogers having a bit to do with the selection of Robinson, Davies, Bootsma, etc.
Possibly, hope you're right there. Just reading over his interview again yesterday and he was pointing to Garlett and Armfield as examples of success stories and why he'd like to add more speedy players to the list.
