Folau and Hunt have been paid "marketing allowances" by the AFL after they were recruited, so something similar may be available for Marsh. It would be a pretty big bet for the AFL, taking away a promising cricketer with Marsh's pedigree.
Good football bloodlines as well. His old man played seniors for South Fremantle before concentrating on cricket and his cousin is Bradd Sheppard from WCE.

I wonder if Melbourne will be stripped of draft picks and if so will Jack Viney be forced into the draft.

Having pick 10 plus Viney and Tippett in the draft would shake things up a bit hey.

What are you talking about?

Thinking outside the square a bit here but with all the trouble with WA cricket at the moment especially with the Marsh brothers.

The club should have a chat to Mitchell Marsh to see if he is tempted to make the switch to AFL. He has just turned 21, played full forward for WA in the u/18's champs a few years back and the talk was he would go top 20 in the draft if he nominated.

Picking a player up from another sport allows you to pay them outside of the salary cap.

Thoughts?

Great post. Like very much where youre going.

If GWS did want Tippett, I think they could well wait until their #12, and if they're confident no-one else would grab him could easily wait until #28.

They could get him very cheaply indeed as there aren't many players for Tippett at this stage, at least.
Birsbane are always a threat, as are ironically port
And Demetriou could tell them to suck it up and take him at #3

Does anyone have any idea about the delisted FA. From my understanding if a player is delisted by 31st than between 1st of nov and the 15th they can go to any club that wants them without going into the draft. So why can't Tippett just go to Sydney?

Don't think he has been delisted, I'm pretty sure are only eligible for that if your club did not offer you a new contract in which case Tippet would not be eligible. Also wit the fiasco surrounding his deal I doubt the AFL would let him enter it anyway

Why would you take Tippett at #3 or anywhere in the top ten at least, for that matter.

What a waste of a pick that would be and we haven't even mentioned the money. Crazy.
They shouldn't allow Tippett to put a price on his head to get to Sydney. He deserves to be deregistered and punished financially for taking money outside the salary cap. They should either make him cheap or subtract the figure he received outside the cap from his contract. If players can take a pay cut to stay at a club, then there's no reason why Tippett shouldn't cop a similar hit to his wallet. Tippett could be affordable if he's on less than Sydney have offered him.

The AFL will be conflicted if they hit Tippett with a wet lettuce leaf so he gets to Sydney, GC or GWS.

Tippett should be fair game after Sydney failed to trade fairly. They tried to exploit this arrangement for their benefit. Situation is similar to Nick Stevens entering the draft because Collingwood and Port couldn't agree on a trade.

The Crows alone shouldn't be the only party who cops it. Our players basically got off scott free after we were fined when we were on our knees.

It's downright pathetic that it's our media who broke this story, rather than the AFL, Ken Wood and Brett Clothier. Wilson mentioned this clause six months ago, yet they didn't even investigate. Suspect the AFL would rather it all went away or was kept quiet. Or they don't want to whack the Crows because it wasn't a systematic breach. I guess they need someone to do a Brock Mclean (Melbourne's tanking) and open their mouth before they can act shocked and appalled.

I reckon the Crows will get wacked for whatever has gone down but the AFL will go easy on Tippett himself.

AFL will want to avoid it ending up in court as the AFL world could be thrown into serious turmoil if Tippett were to win a case against them. Reckon they will take the view it was his naughty managers that led him astray.

The really stupid thing about this is that it seems we had room in our salary cap to pay him legally, go figure!

We just want it to be over and done with whatever the penalty.

Two more FA periods:

Nov 23 - 28 and Nov 30 - Dec 4 for delisted players who automatically become restricted free agents.

First list lodgement is today (31st October)

Really, if they do get stripped of picks (which they should) Jesse Hogan and Dom Barry should go back on the table. Jack Viney should definitely go back into the draft pool if the afl are going to be fair. No different than Goddard knowing he was going to the blues, then in the last hour having to go to the Saints.

The Blues really should be going into this draft with pick #9, with Daniher going to Essendon at #8 and Viney and Dom Barry up for grabs. Jesse Hogan should now go into next years draft. GWS gained an early pick for him, which effectively, they now shouldn't have.

do you think adelaide or melbourne will be banned from this draft, or next draft.
it would be a bit hard to eliminate either of them from this draft considering the "balls" been rolling for the past month with FA and trade month.

The AFL saw fit to remove our draft picks on the eve of the 2002 ND, which was after trade week had been completed. I would hope that if the AFL are going to penalise Melbourne or Adelaide they follow precedents previously set by them, otherwise their motives could be questioned.

No, i don't expect them to be banned from this draft, but really they both should. Next years draft and possibly the year after if not this one. Oh wait, it is only Carlton that cheats ;)

The AFL have only three more weeks to get all their facts in place and will then need to throw it around their legals before any execution.

I can't see it happening that quickly either, but Adelaide on the other hand.......................trouble.

The AFL already have key witnesses who have already signed sworn affadavit's stating that they were directly involved in Melbourne's planning to "attempt" to lose games.

The testimony is from:

1. Dean Bailey (former coach)
2. Brock McLean
3. Russell Robertson
4. Brent Moloney
5. Unknown former official (believed to be Craig Cameron).

Couple this with the fact that the AFL now have the "meeting minutes" from Directors/Football Department personnel (which were being chaired by Chris Connolly) where details of trying to lose games were discussed.

How stupid are Melbourne... leaving behind a tangible trace of evidence that directly relates to your club (with all associated names attached) discussing and planning how to deliberately lose games. In addition to this, they also invited 10 people to attend these meetings, and we're naive enough to believe that it would never be leaked.

Amateur hour at the Demons.

I suspect that Melbourne would work their way to a stay of execution at this draft and what happens thereafter, happens.
Just feel it best for all parties to let it go until after this draft.

They won't care about next year anyway - they already have Jessie Hogan.

Ditto Adelaide this year with Brad Crouch.
