Just have to take a midfielder with our first pick. I'll be happy with whoever in the end but i'll need some good convincing for why we don't need to start working on young, top line midfield talent.
This.

I want a big mid after watching the first quarter of our win against Essendon. Loved our hardness and aggressive start to that game by Gibbs and everyone who put them on the backfoot from the first bounce. More muscle and skill thanks. Bring back the talented bastard mids we had playing in 1995. I'd almost be tempted to double up and get one with 36 too.

If Grundy slides to us and that's a big if because I'll be surprised if GWS, dogs and port all pass. We could trade Hampson and Warnock next year
Why?

It's harder to get a good return on rucks if they aren't established and/or resilient like Jolly and Ottens.

I'd be happy with Kennedy or Garlett if they can come straight in and play as an outside mid/forward who could finish. Take the hardest player with Rioli a beast in spite of his size.

Richmond wouldn't pass on Grundy, after cutting Graham and Browne.

They would need a ruck partner for Maric - as they want to play Vickery as a KPF.

I'm sure the 18 clubs are waiting for Quayle's phantom draft so they can finalise their rankings.:p

i would love to take Kennedy with our first pick... seems to have "star" written all over him...would be stoked if Lonergan fell to our second rounder... cant see it happening though!

I have a feeling judging by Shane Rogers comments about "speed being king" and that we are targetting good "finishers" of the ball .... we'll be selecting somebody like Dayle Garlett/Ben Kennedy.

I would not be unhappy with that at all, as both could play and add something to our outside, line-breaking midfield.

Really would love one of either Wines (dreaming...), Mccrae, O'Rourke or Jaksch with our first pick. If we took any of the 3 mids we should try and take a forward with our next pick, but if we took Jaksch, I believe our tall stocks will be set for years to come.

With our 2nd pick, I would be extremely happy in one of the following fell to us: (mids) Lonergan, Garlett, Simpson, Hrovat, Broomhead, (fwds) Shaw, Membrey or White.

And for pick 3, lets just take Chris Yarran Mk2 because we can ;)

I think some are omitting the fact that we have untapped midfield talent on our list, expect Gibbs to step up to play midfield next year, also any reason why Yarran in his 4th season and Lucas in his 3rd should not be ready to also play as part of our mid field rotations next year, expect Malthouse to have a different approach to these 3 than what Ratten had.

Certainly pick the best available but not convinced the mid-field is lacking as some are suggesting on here, more the case players we have previously drafted have not been developed/pushed into the midfield.

I think both O'Rourke or Mayes would certainly enhance our list, but Kennedy/Gartlett look very good not sure teams with many small bodies perform well at the pointy end in September,we already have a list with quite a number of smaller bodies.

I don’t mind the look of Tom Fields. He’s an athletic rebounding defender (192cm) with an excellent kick, who finished second in the 2012 NEAFL NAB Rising Star Award. Might be worth a late or rookie pick?

Yarran will be entering his fifth season, Lucas his fourth.

While this year might finally be the year we "unleash the Gibbs", it would require the likes of Duigan, Laidler, O'Keeffe and Davies to all be fit and firing to play that medium defender role, assuming in turn that Watson, Henderson and Jamison play most weeks. Gibbs is a go-to defensive gap filler. One thing I hope Malthouse abandons is playing him as a loose man - he'd be far more valuable in traffic.

Yarran as a wingman I'd like to see. He's become a bit of a one-trick-pony burning off his opponent and streaming out of defense. He could be far more damaging with goal assists and turning those goal of the year applications into bi-weekly events - ala Lewis Jetta.

Lucas, i think this year is make or break. Outside players who don't find a lot of their own footy aren't prized. If he can't cement a spot in this his fourth season, I think the club would cut its losses and accept a second round pick from one of the WA teams.

The concern I have is Scotland, Judd, Carrazzo and Simpson are all 28+. Some have us as a good thing for the 2014 flag but then what? A massive slide down the ladder beckons. I'm not yet convinced Bell is the second coming of Koutoufides - I could be wrong. ;) The time to invest in midfield depth is nigh.

We should be able to get an late fist round pick or early 2nd each for Warnock and Hampson next year and give us 3 pick in the top 30. Clubs pay overs for ruckman all the time. the crows gave up pick 43 for graham they also gave up pick 31 the year before for a rookie who hasn't played a game in Jenkins the year before that they stole an A grade ruckman from a stupid club for pick 34 and 67. In 2009 Sydney traded jolly for pick 14 (jetta) they gave up pick 22 for seaby who is now been delisted and pick 28 for a rookie ruckman because the cats couldn't match there offer.

If Grundy is still there and we don't pick him it will be a big mistake. Him and Kreuzer will be the best ruck combo in the comp in a year or 2. Plus with 3 picks in the top 30 in 2013 we can then start to rebuild our midfield for when Judd, Simpson and co retire

Grundy will go in the first 3 picks anyway. He will be a star for GWS

Doubt that he'd get past the Power.

1. GWS - Whitfield
2. GWS - Toumpas
3. GWS - O'Rourke
4. MELB - Wines
5. DOGS - Plowman
6. DOGS - Macrae
7. POWER - Grundy
8. LIONS - Mayes
9. TIGERS - Vlastuin
10. DONS – Daniher
11. BLUES - Kennedy
12. GWS - Menzel*
13. SUNS - Stringer*

If you move yarran onto the wing than we should use Lucas off the hbf in the same role yarran has done

If Rogers is adamant about recruiting speed, then Steven Baldasso & Tullio Dematteis should be looked at.

Baldasso –
Norwood (SA) 17 183 cm 73 kg
Kevin Sheehan says: "Displays great awareness and agility in traffic as well as making excellent decisions with his disposal. Has very clean hands both in the air and at ground level and possesses excellent leg speed. Averages 22 disposals for Norwood at Colts level and has also played in the Reserves during 2012."

Dematteis –
Norwood (SA) 18 184 cm 72 kg
Kevin Sheehan says: "An explosive medium half forward/winger with the ability to break away from the contest and step his way past opponents. His clean hands and goal sense make him a dangerous player when forward. Played two games with SA at Under-18 level and is averaging 24 disposals in four games with Norwood at Colts level."
