I'll be real disappointed if they take Macrae at 11. To me, and its just my opinion, he's a weak bodied outside mid/flanker, who cant kick it long, generally gets his possessions through link up rather than in close, has a poor tank and is flashy, in and out of the play. He'll get found out in the big boys. Easy to look good in the TAC and having just now watched two highlight reels of him, he wasnt that impressive there either. Winds around and throws it onto his left foot mostly and rarely hits a target up, no real leg speed either. No thanks. Plenty of others I'd take first. Just dont get the hype.
So that's highlight reels, how many full games have you watched him play to make that judgement?

How far does the Hawks Sam Mitchell kick it?

There should be a slab of beer to the 1st player who can lay a tackle on him. :p
I guess my argument is that Jackson has many good assets as a footballer. His speed is okay/adequate but not super. He often doesn't kick 50 but tends to spot up targets more in 25-40 range. If you saw the goal he kicked from the boundary on 50 in 1 of the finals at Visy you might change you mind because he can kick longish when he wants.

The Characteristics that should be highly prized are all the best aspects that Mitchell and Macrae possess i.e. clean, evasive, creative, poised, consistent.

Obviously he needs work as all 18yr olds do but he sure ticks alot of boxes

Yarran's highlights were average until we see saw the jizzfest that were his efforts playing against men in the WAFL.

Macrae would be as quick as Gibbs who they can't lay a glove on due to his footy smarts and agiity in traffic.

Even Murphy only ran 3.03 or something like that at draft camp.

Love that you're worried about a skinny player after we saw first hand how hard Bootsma attacks a contest in the AFL.

This draft is a real lottery

We could take a player who realistically would be top 3 or 5 if not for his injury (String)

Or we could take players who should be top 10 but for their attitude (Garlett)

Or we could pick players who are around the 11th best players in the draft (Jaksch/Macrae/Vlastuin)

Or we could pick a player who would be very high but for some physical attributes leave him lacking (Kennedy)

Most risk but most reward - Menzel
Risk but a lot of reward - Stringer
Potential but can't fix deficiencies (height) - Kennedy
Solid options - everyone else

Do we want to gamble or play it safe?

Menzel = too much risk

Therefore my preferences are
Stringer (take those odds)
Kennedy (easy money odds)
Every one else (Hawthorn at 1.01 v GWS odds, you'll definitely win but you'd be better off making a different bet)

I totally agree with you RK and have said for a while now that I would be more than happy with Jack Mac. He is a faster version of Gibbs and has the skillset and time of say a Pendlebury. Why would we not want him???

As Sin City said earlier, Macrae at 11 would be a steal and I totally agree.

I am also a little confused by FlowersByIrene comments to say that Menzel is more of a risk than Stringer.
I would take a pcl/acl injury issue over a non healed broken leg. Nathan Brown came back as a dud after his broken leg. Kruezer comes back as Kruezer after his acl injury, as do most players.

Yes but a break is a freak accident
Menzel has had 2 (?) severe knee injuries already and seemingly hereditary weak knees (brother?) Just seems like the kind of player we will constantly be getting only 90% from (kreuze style, i.e missing the odd game for touch ups) and possibly long stints on the sideline

Whereas String has already played senior vfl footy post break, and certainly won't ever break his leg again

Menzel i see more as a constant battle for fitness
Whereas String is either heads or tails fit or not and im hoping that its fit

Can't listen to it right now as I am at work and have a bucks party for the whole weekend starting straight after work. Can u give a bit of an update as to who they believe is coming to us RK?

Not alot discussed about the Blues unfortunately. One caller asked Michael Ablett (AFL Development Manager, works with Shifter apparently) who he thought Carlton would go for with number 11. In his response he mentioned he thought we were stiff with injuries this year, but reakons Stringer is likely to be taken at our pick. Was full of praise for Jake, in particular his form at the end of this season for Bendigo.

I agree re knees versus break.

Either is a risk but to see stringer has played senior footy this year is a plus.

Knees rob players of their quickness and explosiveness. Leg may do the same but I think breaks get rehabbed a lot better than when brown did his.

I'd prefer a few smokeys taken before us so we can land a top uninjured talent.

Lars surgery on a 16 year old sounds pretty risky to me.

True about Nathan Brown, but in Stringer's case he looks the goods after his broken leg.

Jesse Lonergan is right in the mix for Richmond's pick. Not saying it'll happen but he's a big chance. Hope it does, gives us even more chance at getting the player we want.

Richmond delivering the goods once again. I thought Wallace had left?

They're just guessing and putting players with clubs based on needs, rather than talent. I stopped listening halfway through the first one.

Bring back the Burgatron.

Barlow broke his leg two and a half years ago now
He was hobbling first half of the season but was almost at his best by the end, after the 2 year mark at the midway point of this season he was playing good footy

It will be 2 years since Stringers break come round 1.. Make of that what you will but i think its more likely String will be able to play than not sometime next year

Ahh none. I would have thought a HIGHLIGHT reel would show me his best actions/attributes. You like him Chief, that's great, good for you. I don't, it's a forum of armchair experts, so be it. Did you pick Bootsma last year??? Didn't think so.

Emma Quayle seems to think we want Macrae the most and would lookat Jaksch too if he slips, same with Mayes.

Of those likely to be available she listed Hrovat, Lonergan, Kennedy and said we weren't too interested in Stringer. No mention of Vlastuin.
