I'm betting they'll crack it if their favourites in Jaksch, Stringer, Vlastuin, Kennedy, etc. were overlooked for Simpson. His highlights reel is amazing, people will love it.
Appears to be a good kid like Yarran who won't let the chance to play AFL go to waste.Baby talk throws recruiters - Josh Simpson has thrown a curveball into the draft
Yalgoo's draft gem Josh Simpson set to sparkle"I owe my grandmother a lot, so hopefully once I'm drafted I can give back to her and also give back to the people in my life and help them out."
He says he was "given" to his maternal grandmother, Margaret Simpson, when he was two weeks old and he has called her Mum ever since.
Simpson is adamant he'll cope wherever his draft fate sends him and dreams of having a 10-year career.
"With us Aboriginal kids, I reckon at a young age we need to kind of leave our family a bit," he said.
"When I first boarded, I cried and cried and cried for my family. But once you get over that, you should be used to it. I don't know what's going through their mind sometimes. A lot of players want that opportunity, and they just let it walk out the door. So for me, I'm in a better position than most."
Simpson is also steeled by the toughest period of his life in late 2008.
He was devastated when he was left out of a Sharks' under-16 development squad, despite teammates from his premiership-winning Mullewa under-14s side being included.
Shortly after that came personal heartbreak as his six-year-old brother Michael was killed in a horrific road accident after being hit by a truck on the highway that runs past town.
All the turmoil prompted him to chase a fresh start and a scholarship at South Australia's Rostrevor College on the recommendation of a friend.

Cups always half empty with you haha. I just want someone new. Heck, I prepared my mind for Quentin Lynch.I'm betting they'll crack it if their favourites in Jaksch, Stringer, Vlastuin, Kennedy, etc. were overlooked for Simpson.

If the stories about Garlett are true, then he could be the best bargain since Clayton Collard slid to pick 31 in the 2006 draft. If Garlett somehow slides through to our second pick we could honestly walk away from this draft and trade week and season with a Geelong esque amount of future talent.
Quite simply Dayle Garlett is the undoubted best midfielder out of WA this year
What he does have is skills, and tricks
What he doesn't have is attitude and fitness
Which one of those groups can we work on? Luckily for anyone who picks him up, the second.
Dayle Garlett at #36 is the definition of a steal, and we should take it.
Could you imagine Stringer/Menzel/Vlastuin/Macrae + Dayle Garlett to add to our young midifelders in Bell + O'Keefe + Lucas + Robinson
Surely there would be enough there to help Murphy + Gibbs out in the future.
I wouldn't be against it. You could see Simpson being this year's Lewis Jetta who was a bolter. Sensational kick. Love how Simpson twice chased down two of his handpasses and embarassed two opponents using his pace and awareness. Reminds you of Yarran who can find a gap when you think they've got him cold. His highlights reel is amazing, people will love it.
Yes but Garlett is an extreme talent prospect, with slight commitment and "party" issues, whereas Reimers is medicore, couldn't crack into an Essendon side and is an all round tosser. If the stories about Garlett are true, then he could be the best bargain since Clayton Collard slid to pick 31 in the 2006 draft.
Strange that everyone is turned off Reimers who can play, yet Garlett could be a bargain and a great get if he slides to pick 36.
.
Yep, made Jaksch look like a real plodder.Love how Simpson twice chased down two of his handpasses and embarassed two opponents using his pace and awareness. Reminds you of Yarran who can find a gap when you think they've got him cold.
If talent was all that mattered, we would have kept Rohan Kerr who has more footy smarts and skill than Armfield.Yes but Garlett is an extreme talent prospect, with slight commitment and "party" issues, whereas Reimers is medicore, couldn't crack into an Essendon side and is an all round tosser.
Garlett is a top 10 talent > If he miraculously slides to our second pick (can't see him getting by Hawthorn/Sydney/WBD though) we would be stupid not to take him.
Have a feeling we will end up with a Garner or Lonergan type that hasn't merited much discussion on the board to this point. Hurry up Thursday.
Who would the draft watchers go for out of Kennedy and Hrovat given the choice?
Kennedy. Not knocking Hrovat who is a great little ball winner but Kennedy has many more tricks.Have a feeling we will end up with a Garner or Lonergan type that hasn't merited much discussion on the board to this point. Hurry up Thursday.

Simpson is a very interested player to rank a real example of how recruiters earn their money. Obviously they'll see elite speed and agility to go with dual sided kicking who can take spectacular high marks but they've seen good footy from him nowhere near as much as they have from some more productive players.
How will he develop at an AFL club? Does he remain a midfielder who doesn't get enough of the ball? Does he end up just a small forward who can kick freak goals now and then or does he move to half back to pick up more of the ball? Does he become an endurance machine who runs all day and racks up 25-30 elite possessions per game?
It now appears he went home from SA this year not because of home sickness but to be a father to his young son. I think recruiters will actually look favourably on this and clubs will look to help his family out all they can. Hope to see the young man making half a mil per year for his family, he'd look alright in navy blue hey![]()

Trust these boys to deliver in draftHe is spending time in Yalgoo, 200km east of Geraldton, in the build-up to the draft. The wingman has been linked to Port Adelaide at pick seven, GWS at 12 and Gold Coast at 13.
"He's got great skills, is a good decision maker and is cool in heavy traffic," McLeod said. "A lot of people in South Australia were very upset when he left.
"They'd embraced him and wanted him to be a big part of South Australia.
"The State guys were shattered when they saw him in a WA jumper playing against them.
"But he is a WA guy and he made the decision that was best for him, so hopefully he goes on to bigger and better things."
Mcleod appears to be a big fan of Simpson.

Board. How would we feel about Menzel if he slid to 11?

Thanks Beowulf....Get Shannon Taylor for the father-son potential![]()

I wonder if Collins was delisted as a direct result of the Visy issue.
Strange situation - some have said he is out the door regardless, some have had a bet each way. Why would we have spent the money taking him to Arizona if we weren't committed to taking him back?
Would hope that we weren't needing to delist players to find $200K. We have just pushed a handful of senior players out the door and made no additions to the list.
Just can't see the recruiters getting excited for Garlett if he's happy for shots like this to be making their way into the public. Not good.
