Pendlebury in his draft year was seen as a stretch being number 5. Most phantom drafts in that year had him going 13 to West Coast.

OK.

But if the recruiters thought that Macrae was as good as Pendlebury, then surely he'd go in the top 3.

Where Pendlebury went is irrelevant, the point is that if Macrae's ceiling is that high he would surely be going higher in the draft

doesn't always work like that, just because a bloke is predicted to go between 5-15 doesn't mean he wont be as good. draft is a bit of a lottery after all.

I'll be doing both.
I'll do both, at the same time.

If Wines does drop to our selection, I'm doing one of two things. A backflip or punching a hole in the wall.
a backflip followed by getting really pissed to celebrate...

Whitfield, O'Rourke, Plowman.
Toumpas.
Gets tricky but if I were the Dogs I'd go Menzel and Macrae.
Port take Mayes ideally but Wines a big chance.
Brisbane should then go Jaksch.
Tigers give us the choice of Menzel/Vlastuin/Wines

The possibility Wines slides is an impossible dream, but a dream that still flutters in my heart
The possibility Plowman reaches us, almost certain if GWS, WBD and Brisbane pass on him, but that is an unlikely event
The real possibilities are Stringer, MacRae, Menzel

Disregarding Whitfield/Toumpas/O'Rourke/Grundy which will not reach us in almost all certainty.

Wines is my absolute favourite
Stringer is my realistic dream
Plowman is my prospect gun we can mould
Macrae would be the p[layer i settle for safety, yet still skilled
Menzel is the risk that could pay big

I want one of these 5 if others are read out on the night, i will be dissapointed but i hope i can see where we are coming from.

It does seem likely that GWS will take O'Rourke over Toumpas, gifting Melbourne the second best player in the draft. Terrible move by the Giants, Toumpas is a way better player than O'Rourke.

The reasoning is he's more outside which is what they wanted but to me that's like a team going for Cale Morton over Judd because he's more outside. Toumpas is better on the outside anyway, just not as good a kick.

Steal for the Demons to add to Viney, Hogan and Dawes this off-season.

Do you think Port Adelaide will play it safe and pick a South Australian?
They got burnt badly with Ben Jacobs this year.
Mayes is perfect for them but surely they couldn't pass up Grundy now.

Think they've re-interviewed a Vic player because Mayes will be gone and they don't want Grundy. There might be enough talent available at 7 for them to pass on another local in Menzel. Tigers might have to choose between Grundy and Menzel. Think we'll be picking Menzel bar the Tigers overlooking Grundy for him.

Grundy was rated in the top 4 a month ago, surely Port would be looking seriously at him, still think Menzel will go at 6-7.
Any reason why Grundy has dropped off the radar, good ruckman are tough to find you would have to think he would be a great get for Port.

i Would be stoked if we got Krisrian Jaksch

My only issue with getting this guy is that he would unlikely contribute in the next year or two. If we can add someone that has an impact straight away it will help us with 17, which I reckon the window is open in for 13/14. Jaksch looks to me like he would just be a waite replacement, which isn't horrible but I'd rather punt on our current talls coming good/ staying fit, grab a classy mid that will be best 22 and hope MM can get us 17 next year or the one after.

GC might want a tough mid, but they'll be hard to stop if they have Bennell, Simpson, O'Meara, Martin and McKenzie delivering the ball. Plus Matera and Prestia. Pricks will have a top five pick and the Geelong compensation pick to use next year. Well done to the AFL for setting up two new super teams.

God I would have a 12 inch boner if we managed to net Wines in the draft, but I unfortunately don't think it will happen :'(

To get Wines I think the draft would have to go something like this

1. Whitfield. Clearly the #1 player in this years draft. No brainer
2. O'Rourke. A little shocked but the GWS obviously see him as the best available outside mid, esp considering the number of quality inside mids they already have.
3. Plowman. The best defender in the draft, which would be one of the GWS' weaknesses. I am a little shocked that the GWS didn't try and do a deal with the WB involving trading #3 and #13 for the WB's #5 and #6 if they were going to aim for Plowman and it would have elevated a late pick and they still would have netted their man as Melbourne wouldn't have considered Plowman if available.
4. Toumpas. The best available mid, and best available player. Complements Viney perfectly (I always thought that the balance of Melbourne's midfield would be a little off with Jones, Viney AND Wines all inside (with Trengove there too, although he will be released to an outside role now)
5. Macrae. Quality outside mid to complement their strong inside mid stocks accumulated over recent years
6. Menzel/Stringer. A high risk/high reward pick. Either could be top 3 picks if they didn't have knee/leg injuries respectively.
7. Mayes. Class SA mid/forward. "Hopefully" the loss of Jacobs to the "go home" factor see's the Power play it safe, and Mayes would complement their developing midfield nicely
8. Jaksch. Main danger of selecting Wines in this dream scenario. They have been linked extensively to Jaksch, but if Wines is available then I could see them taking him instead. Their ruck stocks are fine with Leuy and Longer last year and they need depth in their midfield, which Wines would provide. We would basically have to hope that Brisbane believe that a strong enough midfielder would be available at #24 to allow them to go for the best KPP in the draft at #8
9. Grundy. Richmond needs a developing ruckman. Vickery will be a forward who can pinch hit in the ruck and they basically have NO_ONE behind Maric.
10. Daniher. You bastards Essendon !!!!!!!
11. Wines. 12 inch boner :D

So the real danger picks IMO would be the Bulldogs at 5/6 and Brisbane at 8. But as I said, the Bulldogs seem set for inside mids after netting Wallis/Libba/Smith in the last two drafts, so they might be more interested in outside players this year, leaving Brisbane the big hurdle IMO.

Well a guy can dream anyway ;)

Pendlebury was a late bloomer and was actually a suprise 5th pick who showed potential to be a good player. McRae is see as very similar also coming from a Basketball background, he shows that ability to have time when there is none. I think he can very much become one of the best prospects out of this draft. He wasnt rated prior to this year but the way he has played this year shows he can continue to improve.

If anyone one has heard him on the footy field the bloke is by far the loudest on there, always screaming for the ball, shows he is extremely hungry and wants to will himself to each contest.

Any one of Stringer, Menzel and McRae i would be happy with. Moreso than a Vlaustin or Mayes

I can't really think of a way to put this eloquently (perhaps Thy can help)....but he could also become the next Cale Morton. I'm wary of best case scenario comparisons.

Wouldn't mind seeing Geelong finish top 4 in the next 2 years to minimise the value of that Geelong compo pick ;). Of course as long as they don't interfere in our quest for #17 :D

But nobody knew were Pendlebury ceiling was, and McRae i see as exactly the same with him also being a late bloomer. Its very hard to see how he will adapt and how good he will be at AFL level
