GWS are going to go nuts if they get Tippett....

B: Bugg Jaksch Buntine
HB: Plowman Davis O'Rourke
C: Whitfield Ward Scully
HF: Haynes Patton Hoskin-Elliott
F: Sumner Cameron Smith
R: Giles Coniglio Shiel

I/C: Tippett Greene Tyson Adams

Emerg: Palmer Tomlinson Corr Mohr Downie Phillips Aylett Darley Treloar Edwards Golds Hampton Kennedy Miles Schulz Townsend Wilson

Don't pull me up if I have players in the wrong spots or they're no good.

Clubs will be chasing and paying through the nose for some of their fringe players. They appear to have done a better of building a strong and well balanced list than the Gold Coast Suns.

Yeah RK as these boys mature, Tom Scully will become the highest paid seconds player in the history of the game. Expect promoted rookie Frost to appear in their defence before the recent draftees.

Scully >>>>> Palmer

As long as Scully's knee holds up, their gutrunners in Whitfield and Scully are going to smash it running around without tags. Almost the perfect storm after they've gone for hard mids that complement the likes of O'Rourke, Scully, Coniglio and Whitfield.

You forgot Dom Tyson (if he doesn't end up at Richmond for Pick #40) :P

Hope we take a punt on Garlett. Considered a top 10 pick except for off-field issues. But I believe with Mick and Juddy around they can sort that out. If we rookie him and it doesn't work out it's no real loss. Get him.

If i understand
National Draft picks get automatic 2 year contracts
Pre Season Rookie Drafts only get signed up for 1?? if we choose?

So obviously 2 years into Garlett is a significant investment
But as a rookie on a 1 year deal on minimum salary, move him in with Eddie Betts or another leader we choose
What is the problem here?

Draft is done which now still leaves us two spots to fill.

1 * PSD and 1 * Rookie it seems to me.

If that does become the case who would we be looking at in the PSD? Connors? A mature ager?
Are we going to use the rookie selection for Collins or do we give the spot to a kid?

Still plenty to play out for us to finalize our list but can't help feeling that Collins may be gone.
It does now seem close to certain that Curnow will remain a rookie.

Can someone direct me to a thread on this (if we have one). I am really confused with the remaining spots. I thought Curnow was already promoted? How long can he remain a rookie?

Do we have 1 spot on the list and 1 rookie spot?

Your attention span after 18 clubs overlooked Garlett.

No flogs.

Hope Garlett can turn it around and make it, but it looks like he's going to be a miss like a lot of talented footballers who aren't driven.

Agreed
However Ward, Coniglio, Whitfield, Shiel, O'Rourke, Greene, Adams, Tyson, Smith>>>>>>>Scully
on exposed form, with a few others in the mix. The point I make is that they have an incredible array of young mids, Scully needs to step up to command a spot. (Yes I realise Whitfield & O'Rourke are not yet proven at senior level) It is like your love child Lucas, spots are earned by performance, not potential or price tag.

Apparently we have two spots up for grab that we can use for the senior list or the rookie list, as we see fit.

What I am confused about is the next period of free agency...can anyone tell me how this will go down?

It sounds like the "delisted FA" period ends on Wednesday next week (which is why Tippett wants to push his grevience hearing forward so he can walk to the Swans). What I don't get is I didn't think he would qualify for the delisted FA anyway as the Crows offered him a contract and he knocked it back, much the same as Jacobs and Port.

For all of those posters wanting Garlett, forget about it.
The guy is a flog of the highest order and he'll be lucky to get a rookie spot.

Terrific recruiting by our team last night.
To add Menzel, Temay and Graham to our list really is a great effort.
Hope they all went out and celebrated last night.

Yep what I have loved from our recruits, as much as the talent seen among them, is the attitude they share. Menzel appears to be a great kid, and Temay and Graham appear to be guys who absolutely work their asses off.

Adding Garlett to that group would appear to be absolutely out of place, despite his talent. Also leads to be hope/believe that we wouldn't consider recruiting a FIGJAM in Riemers or a tool in Connors.

To round off the draft I would love nothing more than to recruit Toy as a delisted FA (but he seems destined for Richmond) and a project tall, be it a KPP or a ruckman we can develop for 3 years on the rookie list before needing to elevate/trade him.

That is Tippett and his lawyers (and by default the Swans) trying to rewrite the rule book to get him to where he wants to go. Can't see it happening because it would be so blatantly wrong but when has that ever stopped the AFL from doing whatever suits them? However it seems to me that Tippett to GWS would suit the AFL best of all given the Giants' propensity to ignore marquee players with even the 17 year olds they were given expressly to trade for them: this way a marquee player lands in their lap for nothing, they have the money thanks to Izzy pulling the pin and blowing up in the AFL's face, and all will be then well in that bizzarro world of Vlad and Andy. And Sheedy has been making noises about selecting Tippett in the PSD whether Kurt the Skirt likes it or not, fighting words I like very much and hope are more than just Kev's normal blast of hot air. I hope neither Kurt nor Sydney get what they want because their dealings have been dodgy as a Nigerian financial scheme in my book.

I only see 1 spot. 39 on the list + 4 rookies (Curnow, Okeefe, Bell, Dale)

There would be two kids that may be scratching their heads today as to why they weren't drafted.
Garlett we all knew about but Colquhuon and Pongracic may be wondering what they did wrong having been considered more than a good chance to get drafted.

Form the Phantom boards using the 5 more prominent Phantom Drafters and their selection:

Colquhoun:...18...22...30...30...15
Pongracic:.....35...43...31...39...63

What about Matthew Haynes?

I thought he was a chance to go in the first 3 rounds.

Settle down, we're talking about what, a 17/18 y.o. kid here - he has time on his side, and considering the support he'll enjoy hopefully a team gives him a chance.

We're in fact one of the best placed teams to provide that - would not mind us giving him a shot at all.

Unless Garlett has some legal matters hanging over his head, wouldn't it worth grabbing him and telling him we'll deal with him outside the club until we can confidently put all his behavioural problems away.

I would have thought that if we only had 1 spot on the list we should use it for another project key forward.

We have filled our other needs in the draft.

How many project key forwards do you think we need?

We have enough tall forwards on the list now. The issue is keeping them fit.

To be fair most people in the draft industry I spoke to had both of those players going at best in the rookie draft.

I really liked Colquhoun myself but had to keep listening to their thoughts on those players. I still have hopes that he will get drafted and work on his defensive aspects.
