I can't help but wonder how Kane Lucas reacted to the drafting of Menzel....

I don't see them as particularly similar in style. Lucas predominantly a midfielder capable of pushing forward, Menzel probably more the opposite way around.

No reason why they can't both be in the side.

I would have thought that if we only had 1 spot on the list we should use it for another project key forward.
We have 3 198cm project key forwards on the list right now, who'll compete for spots in the 2nds.

I'd be drafting yet another small-medium midfielder/utility. Looking at who mightn't survive next year's list lodgement, it's Scotland (ret), Joseph, Ellard, Davies and White least likely to survive, plus Duigan who at 28yo find his spot in the 22 challenged by Tuohy, Bootsma and McInness.

If we must select a tall forward, I'd be looking at one of the Irish lads who are outside the salary cap and rookie list, I believe.

Depth is good, yet I can see Lucas being an option to play forward/midfield like Walker, only without the X factor. Hope Menzel can stand up to allow to Walker play higher up the ground and add some speed to our midfield. Really need Lucas to stand up and take a spot off Armfield who will feel the pressure from adding Menzel.

Pies couldn't say no to drafting a mobile follower who looks like Josh Fraser (features minus the bogan SA look) ...

How many project key forwards do you think we need?

We have enough tall forwards on the list now. The issue is keeping them fit.

Another one. Casboult has played a handful of games, Mitchell 1, Rowe 0. I am hoping that 2 of the 3 make it. My gut feel is that only 1 will. Waite is aging and injury prone.

What you are assuming is that all 3 are going to make it as key forwards? To have a strong list you would probably want 3. We don't want to caught short in a few years if they all don't work out. Only my opinion.

Settle down, we're talking about what, a 17/18 y.o. kid here - he has time on his side, and considering the support he'll enjoy hopefully a team gives him a chance.

We're in fact one of the best placed teams to provide that - would not mind us giving him a shot at all.

With lists getting smaller, clubs are just not willing to take chances on guys that have issues off the field.
Have a look at guys like Connors, Collard & Proud, all came onto AFL lists with issues, and none of them are on AFL lists now.

More and more clubs now are employing the no dickhead rule. Puts the onus back onto the kids to prove they are worthy to be on lists. Because there are so many of them that would do almost anything to achieve that.

Rowe would have played if he didn't get cancer.

You can add Hampson to your list there aswell. And depending how Watson and Paddy Mac develops at CHB, Henderson could move to CHF.

We have alot of young tall forward options.

Beat me to it IBB.
Jamo holds down FB and Laidler takes the third tall. You can also throw Simon White into that mix as well - thought he was pretty good when he got his chance late in the season.

Where is Parrot to write about our top-shelf talent and bag the crap out of Richmond in the process? :(

:)

EDIT: okay that smiley face is nowhere near the same.

Definetly not sold on Rowe yet. Before he had cancer he really struggled in the NAB cup.I just dont see it.

Henderson is not a key forward. At a pinch you could swing him down occasionally. Best football is CHB

Hampson will never cut it as a standalone KF. As a resting ruckman perhaps. Hampson will not stand at full forward and kick us 50+ goals.

Mitchell is our best hope IMO. At least he can kick straight. Very hard to judge on 1 game.

Casboult. Love the guy. Kicking action is deplorable. If he cant get that right he wont make it.

I really think it is up to Casboult and Mitchell. If they both don't make it and Waite goes we will be in a world of strife in a few years.

I dont think there are many defences that are concerned with our current crop of key forwards

Simon White is somewhat the forgotton man. Although everytime he has played I have been quite impressed with him.

If he can stay injury free he could suprise a few people.

We have a solid group of talls developing at boths ends and alot to look forward to; Despite what the negative nancys might tell us.

Amazing how important the development of Watson & McCarthy. If one or even both of these guys develop enough to hold down a spot in our defence, it means we can move Henderson forward.

Mitchell is at least 12 months away from getting regular games at AFL level.
He needs to get through this preseason, get a full season under his belt, and then get through the 2013/2014 preseason.

What would be ideal is Watson can hold down CHB, and then move Henderson forward.

Backs definetly. More faith in our young key backs. I have ? marks on our key forwards. Not being negative, hope they make it. Just think it would be diligent to use our last pick on another KF. Insurance....

I think Malthouse will hold to much value on Henderson in defence

The little time Rowe got in the NAB is not enough to judge on. Far too early to write him off.
Had he not got cancer, he would have 100% played this year (because of so many injuries). You don't pick up a mature aged player if you don't plan on giving them game time. Far too early to write him off just yet.

Have to disagree with your call on Henderson. Still a very young man. Good body on body and a nice kick. He can defaintly be a forward option.

Hampson kicked 15 goals from 13 games this year (1 game he got injured early), so its safe to say he would have kicked 25-30 this year. Plenty of room for improvement.

Plenty to like about Casboult. Fantastic mark. Aggressive. Obviously kicking needs some work but looked very promising.

Mitchell shows alot of promis, who knows what a full pre-season can do for him.

Our talls were really struck down with injury this year. All is not doom and gloom. We will soon find out how good some of these young blokes can be.

For early 2013 I agree, but once Watson & Patty Mac deserve a spot in the best 22, I wouldn't betting we'd move Henderson forward. Makes our team alot more dangerous IMO.
