Any chance we would look at Tom Schneider from Hawthorn? Just got delisted after winning box hills best and fairest as a 19 year old. I know we spoke to him prior to him bring rookied by the hawks, as well as collingwood and Adelaide.

Kid couldn't have done more since being picked up and was unlucky not to get a game with the hawks even though they were flying.

The kid will be an Ian callinham, would not let us down if selected.

One week to go and we still have little idea as to which way we're going to play it.

I think it makes sense to say that if we do indeed pick up anyone in the PSD, it won't be anyone that we could have taken with pick #71 at the ND.
If that doesn't make sense, I'd love to know why not.

Maybe we just think that we our main list is done and dusted and we'll just take two rookies, even if one of them is Collins.

It makes sense Harks. We obviously wanted to put that player on rookie wages :thumbsu:

I would give the usual line that kid X has y deficiency/ies in his game, and we wanted to see him train with the club before we committed to taking him (ala Rockliff with the Lions a couple of years back) however the whole overseas training trip has meant we were unable to do so ...........

I wouldn't be against taking both picks in the rookie draft, as long as both are kids. I want to see a project ruckman come in plus a project tall. It would also, iirc, help allow us to play both Bell and Curnow as nominated rookies from the start of next year, and we will be looking to make a couple of rookie upgrades at the end of next year (Bell/Curnow/R'OK if he stands up this year) so having less on the Senior list would help with that. Oh also the 1 year Rookie contract v's 2 year ND contract would help with list management too.

I thought you were against drafting another key position? How we flip around in a few days!

Yeah, ummm. :p Can't a man change his mind? ;) If I were picking best available, based on those highlights packages zee provided, Rodda wins.

Based on need, I think we have enough developing talls on our list - 5 players 195-198cm under a dozen games each. So I'm not convinced of the need to rookie a mature player like Tippett's brother. And of the 6 oldest players on our list 28 years or older, only one is a KPP.

So do we go best available like Rodda or someone to fill a role like Banfield or Wilkins? (Or for that matter, a less glamorous type like Boston, Pongracic or Colquhoun?) Decisions... :D

I am not sure if it is the amount of players in a certain position that is relevant. It is more about the quality or potential of those players. I think our smaller brigade - now that we have picked up 3 more in the draft is reasonably well serviced. We also have 4 rookie midfielders who are all rated highly.

I am more comfortable with our key backs than forwards. Key Backs - Jamison, Henderson, Watson, McCartney, White... we then have Gibbs, Laidler, Mcinness and Duigan that can play that 3rd medium/ tall defender.

I am hopeful but still concerned with our key forwards. We really only have Waite, Casboult and Mitchell.... and at a stretch Rowe. Waite is constantly injured and we need to succession plan now. That leaves Casboult who has a flawed kicking style that need significant improvement and Mitchell and Rowe have had little or no exposure.

Even if we look at more of a 3rd medium/ tall... like Pongracic that could potentially play more of a Crameri role.

Hmmmm, not sure I agree with this. We have a fantastic 3rd tall in Andrew Walker (he's the same height as Jack Darling I believe). And we just drafted another potentially excellent 3rd tall forward in Menzel. Also, it is my personal belief that Hammer still holds the #1 position on the totem pole at FF. He'll have another preseason working on his skillset under his belt come season start.

Walker / Waite / Menzel
Betts / Hampson / Garlett

That forward line makes me salivate in anticipation.

Would be nice for Walker to recapture form as a forward and Menzel to have an early impact. Thinking longer term with Waite being replaced and uncertainty on our other developing forward. Anyway, everyone has an opinion.

All depenzels on an uninterrupted pre-season I reckon.

Reimers eyes off Blue revival
Reimers was given permission by the League to train with the Blues ahead of next week's NAB AFL Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts. As the Bombers delisted him, Reimers is also a free agent.
