He has moves like Jagger!;)

Nothing wrong with him and I'd be stoked if we picked him up.

Me too. But, I must confess to being a Bulldogs man. So if we were to use any one of our three picks on any one of Mason Shaw, Sam Lowrie or Adam Carter. I'd be a happy chap.

Gee the hilights of Aiden Corr look good. Looks like a bit of a swingman in the Mcpharlin mould. I wouldn't mind if we took him with our first pick. If he didn't work out as a forward you turn him in to a KPB, he plays very agressivley

I thought he already was a KPD?
He has played forward as well, but mainly in defense. I'm actually really start to come around to Jesse Lonergan, inside mid with pace to break away from packs. I know we need KPF but he just looks great and will be a player i think

The Bullies and Port boards are running what seems a good format for this Seppo. Maybe take a look and see what you think?
I like the format of the Bulldogs competition. I'll get drafting up a score system and post something in the next few days.
We should call it the Chris25 medal as he got closest with last years draft correctly picking 2 players we would select.

We clearly have quite low standards around here.

For what its worth (I.E. nothing) I finally got round to watching the highlights clip of Mason Shaw so I could see what everyone would be knashing their teeth at when we don’t pick him and I can’t say I was impressed. Lumbering was the word that came to mind. Nice straight kick but not powerful or agile. Just the sort of forward who defenders jump all over (and then run off) in today’s footy.

There will definitely be games where that would happen, but I reckon if you watch most finals series you think christ a forward who can mark the ball regularly is golden. In the really tight big games you just need someone who can take clutch marks, sitting a kick ahead of play.

If he is there for our pick I would be delighted if we took him. A player that tall, even if he isn't a star, is always a threat. Most defenders aren't tall enough to be confident of getting a fist to the ball, and so another defender comes over the top. And if they are worried about the big guy, they are less focused on other options. And then there is that slim chance he will be a gun.

To anyone who has seen Shaw live, would comparisons with Kennedy of the WC variety be closest to the mark, as far as being a "type" goes?

Not trying to be negative or anything but i kind of get the feeling from watching Shaw that he could be like a James Sellar. Drafted early in the first round, about number 8 i think, and just never lived up to his potential. I hope this is not the case, especially if we draft him

I think if you watch this video you will see he is quiet mobile with good skills \ awareness.

Positives
Good side step
When he played up the field he used the ball well by both hand and foot.
Good goal kicker in open player (one snap, one on the run from near the boundary)
Excellent Set shot.
Good Mark

Negatives
Appears to mark the ball almost behind his head at times.
Doesn't always read the flight of the ball the best -
(see about 1:05 in) He over runs the ball and has to stop, then jump and takes the mark. In the afl someone would jump over him and spoil. The same occurred about 2:15.

There were a few times he did read the ball well, but if that is in your high lights package then what isn't.

What did impress me was that he took 50 shots at goal a day while coming back from injury (before\after work).

I hope we do take him at 17, then at least we won't die wondering, worse still if he's around at 17 and we don't take him Collingwood will.

I get the feeling that our recruiters feel the difference between Mason Shaw and the other KPP prospects (Colledge, Rodda etc) that will be available at our 2nd and 3rd pick isn't as vast as the difference between best available (say a Garner or Lonergan) and what we can get at 2nd and 3rd pick.

So we will get a higher group of talent if we go best available first round. And then get some KPP players with the next two.

That makes perfect sense to me. I suspect there will be a lot of eyeliner running if that's the case though. I'd love Freo to pick up Garner with pick one.

I think you may be right. I reckon Bondy & Lloydy are thinking exactly that. My problem with that theory is that after Luke, Sandi, Pav and Mundy retire, we will still have Fyfe, Hill, Morabito and Barlow in the midfield, but no topshelf KPPs. I reckon the best avalable KPP gives us a better shot at the 2017 flag than the best available mid does.

I agree with what you say about the 2:15 mark, but I feel that the 1:05 mark was a case of him knowing that he was side on to his opponent & that there was nobody coming from behind. Those kind of marks indicate courage, particularly considering he was coming back from a broken jaw

The closer we get to draft day, the more and more I think we'll be taking Nathan Hrovat at #17. Apparently he is up to 176cm now, so height isn't a huge factor - especially not considering we have a fairly tall midfield already.

Really, we need three things - key forwards, inside midfielders and a little bit more outside speed. And you could easily make the claim that Hrovat is the premier inside midfielder/contested ball winner in the draft, right up there with Oliver Wines (who'll be going at #4 to Melbourne). I imagine he'll go to Collingwood with one of their picks, if we don't draft him first.

Wouldn't surprise me if we were banking on a KPP falling to our second pick. With Tim O'Brien and Mason Wood jumping the queue in recent weeks, it's not impossible that a Mason Shaw or Spencer White is still available. Especially considering other KPPs like Tanner Smith, Tom Clurey, Tim Membrey and Marco Paparone are all likely to be in play between our first and second picks. They can't all be gone.

We got rid of Hasleby recently, before his time. Slow inside mid, clearance specialist. Lonergan, I could handle. Hrovat, not so much. But I haven't seen him play.

Would be happy with Hrovat so long as we get a KPF or two with our 2nd round picks. Thought Hrovat was one of the standouts for Vic Metro (a young man's Sam Mitchell) who racked up the touches and got his share of the clearances...

Jaksch, Shaw and Colledge to me seem the best fit KPF for us from what I have read and seen of their vids. Although I can see some logic in going best available (probably mid) with the first pick I cannot see any of these blokes being available at 37 and 40. At best by that stage you might get a KPD or someone like Paparone (seems to rely on endurance when we need a very strong contested marker and his endurance will be less of a weapon at AFL ranks) and again as mentioned above unless someone like Buddy comes in to fill the void (unlikely I think) then we will be left with a good midfield and a hole at least in the forward line in a few years.

I'm sure he is very good. Whether he is suitable for Subi is my question mark. Barlow and Hrovat in the same midfield???? Lonergan is a clearance player with breakaway speed. Safer option IMO.

Chris I said this on Tuesday, I must be reading too many phantom drafts. With Pearce, Sheridan, Crozier adding pace I
dont think outside pace is our issue. also Mitchie, Morobito, Sloithe to debut?
There is a red headed kid who plays back pocket/mid who is hard as nails, if slided to our pick, happy days.
