2012 Draft wish list

Another one I'd be keen to pick up as a late pick/rookie is Shane Nelson from WP.
Carved up at the state combine with elite speed and endurance and racks up the footy whenever he plays. Also scored 29/30 in the kicking test last year at the AFL combine.

Would be great midfield depth and has played Wafl this year so would be further into his physical and mental Development.

^^^ Yep i was interested to ask Chris where he thinks Nelson will go.. surely with these latest results + given his stellar year in the WAFL seniors (and being on 1 year older than draftees) he wont last much beyond the 3rd round? If we get a KPP with our first pick, wouldnt against using our 2nd rounder on a guy like Nelson.

I'm always biased against anyone older than 18. New is always better.

But, I did think Nelson would get picked in the second round last year. I'm sure there was more to him getting overlooked than just an unfortunately timed illness, but that's just guesswork. And I still don't think his kicking is as good as that kicking test suggests - I think it's more that he just knows his limitations, penetration being one of them. I think he'll be a shorter Farren Ray/Brett Peake type at AFL level, despite playing somewhat more inside in the WAFL.

I would probably look at him from the third round onwards.

Hey Chris i'm interested to here your thoughts on James Stewart? now that Collingwood have elected not to use a father son pick on him, what do you think the chances of us using our second round pick on him are. He is a 197cm forward which is obviousley something we are in the market for. Thanks

I would maybe consider James Stewart in the rookie draft. Maybe.

He is Jayden Pitt skinny, and we're still waiting on him to get a midfielder's body. How long will we be waiting for Stewart to get a KPP body? I don't think his overhead marking is particularly strong either, unlike other skinny players who just have that ability to pluck a mark. He moves well and is a decent kick, but he just doesn't look like a KPP to me.

How many years until he would be ready to play good football?

I see you compared him to Taylor Walker, does that mean he is natural footballer rather than an athlete (Tippett)

I personally would love him at Fremantle.

In the space of about 10 minutes, there was a question about Spencer White on about 5 boards. Then I saw the AFL website article.

There was very little talk about him before this. I've been doing my best to build him a bandwagon, but without much luck. I have him mid-second round in my draft, and I think that would be a stretch. I think he'll go in the 20-30 range, there'll be a few teams in there looking for a quality KPF. So I think we'll likely miss out. Unless he does enough to climb to our first pick.

Yet then again, Knightmare updated his draft a couple of days ago, and doesn't even have him in his top 60.

Apparently there is another Rioli (cousin of Cyril, I think) who was been tested at a combine on the weekend. Doesn't want to go to Melbourne because it's too cold.

There's two, Ben (Dean's brother so son of Seb I think, 1st cousin to Cyril Jr) ironically skinny as anything; and Willie (another first cousin, not sure which of the brothers) who's a bit chunkier and struggles with his fitness.
Willie's been boarding in Melbourne.

Not sure if he'll stay down here, but he's been here 2 years so far... so he wouldn't have to do too much to adapt.
