Ben robinson doesnt even have simpson in his top 25, yes a lot of people have us taking him at 17 now, but 2 months ago nobody had even heard of him.

Anyone who hadn't heard of him, clearly knew nothing of the draft. Simpson was widely regarded as a top 10 pick (even top 5 by some) coming into this season. And who is Ben Robinson? Because you'd be hard pressed to find any other 'expert' who has him outside of their top 20.

I WANT A TALL!!!!!!

Gimme O'Brien - or better still Jaksch if he's there.

If neither, take Shaw. I don't care if it's 'reaching' at pick 17 (Ballantyne was 'reaching' too remember).

JUST DELIVER UNTO US A TALL FORWARD, SO HELP ME JESUS, BUDDHA, JEHOVAH, ALLAH, KRISHNA, GANESHA AND ANYONE ELSE WHO MIGHT BE LISTENING!

That is all...

Collingwood are the only finalist team that have better picks than us. All this talk of Bond screwing the pooch and we will be having the second best draft of all the finalists with any luck.

..and they had to give up two of their premiership side.

Our KPF are Pav and Keplar (or a ruck thrown forward which has had little success). Both are old, one's body won't let him play 22 games straight (Kep).

#17: best KPF available - size/lead and contested mark/straight kick (plug and play type not "once he puts on some muscle")

#36: best KPP available - preferably with some mobility but most important attributes strong contested mark/straight kick

#39: best of the remaining available talent - any position

Yeah, we might pull a Simpson at 17 but if there are only Murphy's/Anthony's left by 36 and 39 we've just shot ourselves in the foot. Awesome midfield but two injuries short of a blown season. We are approaching the window and need to fill holes now. Unlike Collingwood and Hawthorn, we struggle to fill holes by trade or recruiting from other clubs (unless they're about to be delisted) so we have to do it through the draft. Top 4 or higher with two aging KPF - Very touch and go with fingers crossed.

I just hope we do it right.

I agree but I'd be happy with the best available (talented, reliable, professional, will stay) key position player first up, regardless of whether they play front or back then take the best of the other at our second pick.

I am extremely uneducated when it comes to the young guys available in this draft, could someone please sell the idea of Simpson with our first pick ahead of Shaw, O'Brien etc (assuming we aren't able to pick these with our second pick)?

I agree with the need for talls ... but whatever KPP we pick, I doubt they are going to help us win a premiership. Talls generally take time to develop, especially if it is someone like O'Brien who looks pretty skinny. Look at the 2010 and 2011 drafts ... there is basically 1 KPP (Darling) who has had any sort of decent impact on games. From 2009 there is only really Sam Reid and Daniel Talia, so far.

We needed to pick Darling, and/or get the Clark trade done. Our premiership window is now, we have maybe 2-3 years before Pav/McPharlin/Sandi are finished and then GC/GWS will be on their way to being very powerful. Midfielders, even skinny ones (if quick), might have more chance in helping us to a flag than a tall.

By all means pick some talls for way into the future, but don't expect them to help us during Pavlich's career.

Just go to 2:28. Kid sells himself.

I was reading on the main-board yesterday that the reason Grundy might be slipping is that he is seen as a number one ruck only. Gets all his goals up forward by "monstering small guys and with snaps around the body" i.e. doesn't take a big contested grab.

Good, a goal is a goal.

He has a young family, there is every reason to expect he will fall to a second round pick. He also doesnt suit a need. maybe pick 39 is a stretch, but I dont think he will go first round... and hopefully will fall to us later down the track... if he goes mid ssecond round... meh, he doesnt fill a need for us anyway.

Sounds a lot like a guy wearing #7 for us pre-draft as well.
