pointless for mine because the jury is still out on all three to a degree although sideottom has been very serviceable. Vickery could still be the but the comparison is apples and oranges to me.

What concerns me is this push we will not take Gundy at 9 no matter what which just makes one face palm all over again, same shit different day when most is looking for light at the end of the recruiting tunnel!!

Has the club said no matter what? Maybe they have a player they rate higher and no that he will 100% be there. Hence they'll take the player they rate higher.

Maybe but I don't see it. I tell ya, if Grundy gets to pick 9 and we select him I will buy a Tigers membership instead of just wandering around wearing my Tigers bomber jacket:thumbsu:

You seem to be of the opinion that taking anyone but Grundy is short sighted, why is that? Vlastuin could play for us to a very high standard for 10+ years. Just happens he could also step in next year and have an impact. I don't think our recruiting team would be daft enough to think that whoever we draft this year is going to propel us into finals in 2013.

What's stopping you from getting a membership now?

I am waiting to be fully convinced the number on goal of the club is to build a successful premiership team. I am going to such lengths because I have been waiting so long for success I am deliberately fighting a protest fight to help ensure Tigers are a little leaner to perform to do the absolute best to put itself in a position for on field and off field success(plus I live outside Victoria:D) . The rationale is a little tough love makes you stronger and all including the power brokers are answerable to the supporters which should never be forgotten.

So for me the bar is not about making finals necessarily but making decisions and bringing in the best plausible players to the team list which meet the objective of getting us the best team possible on the paddock for RFC at the optimum time(our premiership window) for us to win a premiership. This can be more easily scrutinised and effective as the cattle argument is the number one ingredient for premiership success IMO.

If I am 100% confident the selection criteria is impeccable or close to I will rest easy and get a membership because half the battle will be won. So while my confidence in the Tigers has improved I am not 100% confident. And if they pass on Grundy it will fall away again:cool:

I can understand someone having an issue with a club making disastrously bad decisions (see Melb and Adel). But for someone completely outside the club, presumably without surmountable specific expertise, to think they can judge what is best for the club, in terms of one highly rated draftee over another... well, you must rate your own opinion very highly ;)

The word delusion comes to mind, but each to their own :thumbsu:

My opinion, and it is only an opinion is this:

Vlastuin is a quality player no doubt about it. Do I rate him higher than Grundy, no but what do I know? not as much as some obviously.

However, for me Vlastuin isn't a freak or something out of the box. Best case scenario , being reasonable is Vlastuin is similar rating to Grundy. If this is the case you pick Grundy. Why you pick Grundy is the Buddy Franklin argument versus Bling, mids are a dime a dozen particularly if we can get others later via freeagency etc.. This is what I mean about making sensible decisions. If we end up with a bunch of mids and a great mid comes along we don't take because we already have too many what then. It is about economics, utilising scarce resources. Likewise Grundy you take now because realistically RFC are not going to another opportunity for a player of similar standard and security for the next 8 years and it is a key position

Fair call but I live off my judgements so I am happy to back myself in

Grundy aint budy, and Vlas certainly isn't Tambling. Grundy has no doubt been a very impressive junior ruck but how often does that degree of dominance actually translate to AFL level? Kreuzer and Vickery were rated about the same as Grundy as juniors (Kreuzer even higher) but neither really dominate at the top level, and there's no guarantee they ever will. Rucks are tough to pick going off junior form is what I'm trying to say. I really feel this draft is too important for us to stuff up by taking a punt on a big guy, when there's an opportunity for us to take a 200 game midfield general instead. We stuff this draft up and any chance of us creating a dynasty goes down the tubes. Vlas is the odds on option

I'm really hoping your yellow card is because of this post.

Who cares whether the club is scragging to stay alive in the AFL or dominating teams week in, week out, you get behind the club no matter way you want.

I'm 21, a typical uni student with barely any money, however I'm coming up to my 10th consecutive year this year as a member. Wanna know why?

Because doesn't matter how crap we have been in the past, one of my passions in life is the Richmond Footy Club and even if I only have $200 to my name at the start of every year, that $200 isn't going towards anything else except for my tigers membership!

Once Tucky goes, we have only Conca? And people are content with only one genuine inside mid?

Look at the grand finalists from this year.

Hawks: Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis.
Swans: Kennedy, Bolton, Jack

3 legitimate inside, tough mids. I am hoping we pass on everyone who is there and snaffle up Vlas. Will be the best choice by the club IMO.

And here's hoping Helbig and Arnot can step up big time. You can never have enough tough, nuggety players.
Cotchin is the best inside mid in the game.

I don't know if you watch Richmond matches but Cotchin is the best inside mid in the game.
Not sure if serious?

Read the post I quoted. The post said we have Conca waiting to take over the inside mid role. I merely explained how if we rely only on Conca then we won't be going anywhere as we need a plethora of inside mids.

Cotch is close to the best inside mid in the game, but what makes him THE BEST is that he's close to the best outside mid in the game too.

I want to sex him

You said one inside mid. Cotch is as inside as it gets.

Well said.

The main issue I see with Mr magics logic is he rates himself a better judge of talent than the entire RFC recruiting department

I would be keen to know how much first hand exposure you have had to both Vlas and Grundy though out their junior careers, as you sir have placed your twig and berries well and truely on the chopping block for all to see

The joy of BF is no one will remember in 5 years when you can make a better judgment. :p

I LIKEY ! PASSION & COMMITMENT. What more could the RFC ask for from it's supporters ?!

Wow, just wow.

Wow, just wow.
The issue with Magic's post is that he believes that the club is answerable to supporters. I would have thought it's financial members/sponsors that the club is answerable to. Unless you put your money where your mouth is you're in no position for the club to be accountable to you.
