I don't think our recruiting team would be daft enough to think that whoever we draft this year is going to propel us into finals in 2013.
Like Selwood did for Geelong in 2007?

The main issue I see with Mr magics logic is he rates himself a better judge of talent than the entire RFC recruiting department

I would be keen to know how much first hand exposure you have had to both Vlas and Grundy though out their junior careers, as you sir have placed your twig and berries well and truely on the chopping block for all to see
The fact their support for the club is conditionional is far more concerning .

The joy of BF is no one will remember in 5 years when you can make a better judgment. :p
Nor is it allowed to be bumped when proven to be a complete goose . ;)

Once Tucky goes, we have only Conca? And people are content with only one genuine inside mid?

Look at the grand finalists from this year.

Hawks: Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis.
Swans: Kennedy, Bolton, Jack

3 legitimate inside, tough mids. I am hoping we pass on everyone who is there and snaffle up Vlas. Will be the best choice by the club IMO.

And here's hoping Helbig and Arnot can step up big time. You can never have enough tough, nuggety players.
Yea well in my eyes Cotchin is an amazing inside midfielder as to is Foley when he is on the park. So matching up other teams midfielders to ours doesn't differ too much IMO.. Any player with a bit of class is what I'm hoping for.

I've been off the radar a bit for the last week or so, but from what i have been reading on trying to catch up makes it seem jackson macrae may well slide to us if we want him. obviously a different style to vlastuin, but from what i've read seems to be a very silky player. leaving grundy aside, are we selling ourselves short if we took him over vlastuin given the identified need for a tough inside mid? are macrae's inside skills (or ability to develop them over time) good enough that he could play both inside and outside thus justifying us taking him?

we could also look for an inside mid with later picks and/or next year.

I cannot endorse an opinion that withholds purchasing a club membership for not supporting your opinion.

Memberships are non negotiable with me. I am part of the Richmond Football Club every year. No matter what. I have to buy a membership and support the club.

I would want the club to take Grundy before most. If they don't, my support won't waver. It's very silly to think like that.

We have the best run Richmond in my lifetime, strange this conversation comes up now.

We're all Richmond fans here, unless you're too poor to buy a membership, you buy one. Buying a membership will only help the club to be able to be in healthy financial shape.

First time since i was leaching off my parents that I can afford a membership :D fair too say i want the season to start now

As much as I like Grundy, I'm willing to back in what our recruiters have been doing with our first rounders. Riewoldt, Cotchin, Rance (priority end of round), Vickery, Martin, Conca, Ellis. No busts in there which is a thumbs up from me. Mix of stars and good core footballers.

Garner or Macrae for you?

My support is also unconditional.

But, as with kids, if the club disappoints you, you are allowed to be disappointed and voice that disappointment. Not about to drop them/ adopt out my kids, but I am allowed to be peeved.

Not taking Grundy at 9 would make me peeved. I hope whoever we take at 9 is a gun, but we follow this stuff fairly closely and to pass would be, in time, to regret. IMHO.

Knowing what a professional he is, I am sure Stig will feed back my feelings on Grundy to FJ and co this afternoon. ;)

Best available.

For all my bitching about how the club is run - we'd pretty much have to merge or re-locate for me to stop supporting it.
Or fold

If Grundy is there you ******* take him ffs best talent available at #9 he would be by a country mile.
Who says that Grundy will be the best available at 9?

Is only ever one persons opinion. Who was the best player out of Voss, Buckley and Hird. We all have a different opinion. I'll say Voss u will say Hird.

Think we are all slightly going mad :D

End of the day 99% of us will still support the club no matter who they select.

Ok question for everyone who would you take at our picks. Lets presume Grundy is gone before our pick.

Rank from 1 to 3: 1st round Vlastuin, Garner or Macrae (add him in as it sounds he could last)?

Rank from 1 to 15: 2nd rounders?

Rory Atkins
Jason Pongracic
Tim Broomhead
Marvin Warrell
Tim Sumner
Harrison Marsh
Matthew Dick
Adam Carter
Andrew Boston
Nick Graham
Shane Nelson
Dean Kent
Tom Temay
Sam Lowrie
Nathan Wright

I'd put Wright 4th and shift the others up but otherwise I'd be the same with ranking those 6. I have a few others I'd take over Wright and the other 2. Agree on the first rounders too. I have Vlastuin ahead of Garner on my rankings but the gap between Vlastuin and Pongracic is less than the difference between Garner and another similar player ie Sumner.

The issue with Magic's post is that he believes that the club is answerable to supporters. I would have thought it's financial members/sponsors that the club is answerable to. Unless you put your money where your mouth is you're in no position for the club to be accountable to you.

Isn't that the same thing potential memberso_O,anyway the point is they should and I am sure they are aware they need to respect their stakeholders and do the best job which is all you can ask. I don't have a problem if recruiting ad trading gets highlighted as it is very important and controllable more so than the onfield for the off field team. Anyway, little me is insignificant but if they know we care that is only a good thing.

The day the Tiger supporter stops nuking the membership in the microwave is the day RFC loses its character:D

I'm really hoping your yellow card is because of this post.

Who cares whether the club is scragging to stay alive in the AFL or dominating teams week in, week out, you get behind the club no matter way you want.

I'm 21, a typical uni student with barely any money, however I'm coming up to my 10th consecutive year this year as a member. Wanna know why?

Because doesn't matter how crap we have been in the past, one of my passions in life is the Richmond Footy Club and even if I only have $200 to my name at the start of every year, that $200 isn't going towards anything else except for my tigers membership!

Good for you , for me I can't get to games so it is a bit academic for me so I can get a little philsophical. It is more about ensuring the old reckless ways are avoided cause I am not as patient as I used to be:D.

Sometimes I get the feeling the selections lack confidence or adventure. I sense conservatism is stopping us picking the best available at times. For example atm their seems to be an unhealthy bias on inside mids for what reason I have no idea. I am not a massive pro ruck fan but for me if Grundy is available you pick him its that obvious and he is that high in terms of the quality. just my opnion. For example I like the way Hawthorn recruit in terms of the players they have selected over the years and some other clubs, I like our selections as well but not all of them . Their seems to be a massive bias on the intangibles like leadership , which for mine when we are talking about kids, is utter madness because leadership for kids is highly dependent on their environment not necessarily the person at that age although values and intelligence/awareness etc.. must be considered. Just want to be sure the Tambling's over Buddy's never happen again let alone Fiora over Pav's. Aside from Griffiths at times for me a little X-factor is missing which needs to be addressed

Would I have selected Arnott no, Dea yes, etc.. and so forth so I think some improvement can be made

Going by the latest rumours it looks like we may have quite a decent selection to go with at pick 9. For me in order of preference they are

1) Grundy
2) Mayes
3) O'Rourke
4) Macrae
5) Vlastuin
