Pav.....Buddy......Reg....?.....

I still have a feeling it might be stringer with pick 9
I would be highly surprised. Think it's Vlaustin if Grundy is gone.

We want a future gun inside midfielder.. I won't be surprised if we pick him.. Blokes that tall that can play in the midfield like pav, goodes, Watson, Kennedy, Barlow too good to pass up

Yeah still be surprised but hey I'd have no idea really what FJ is thinking.

as said its a highlights package but if available i take as well gun rucks dont grow on trees and be smart succession planing as well

That Sturt game was his best for the year. 22 kicks, 11 handballs, dozen marks, 49 hitouts and 5 goals.

But he doesn't seem likely to join us. Go figure

I suspect a big factor in our brains trust's thinking is how much time they're hoping Knights can spend in the middle. Especially since we drafted A.Edwards - I mean just how many medium fowards/third talls do we bloody need?

If we've been smart with list management then we shouldn't be counting on our draft picks to be immediately improving the side in their first year anyway. It's not as if we're at the start of the rebuild anymore.

I doubt even pick 9 will be playing even close to 20+ games like the others have since Hardwick arrived. They may not even be a first team regular until 2015. From what I've seen & also read of him, someone like Vlastuin would be a pick with either 2014 post-Tuck in mind and as much as I love Tuck spending our first pick on what would just be an upgrade on him is paying overs IMO.

I must admit I am a big Reg fan too UTG. I hope if available we take him, just too good an opportunity to let pass.

If Richmond pass up Grundy especially for a midfielder or half back flanker I will be extremely disappointed! Big gun junior ruckman that can learn off maric and lade on how to be a great AFL ruckman and just as importantly a competitive beast is an incredibly more appealing option!

Very much agree with all of this but the bold part especially! I'm hoping matty arnott can come along strongly in the next year or two to give us a tuck replacement!

He played on a dwarf. No exaggeration. :p

He was their full back. You play against who you play. The ruckman was dismantled early by Grundy.

Don't see many with a stat line and dominant game like that though? 33 possessions, 49 hitouts, 14 marks and 5 goals.

Was everywhere that day. Hands are vice.

Yet, not good enough for us.... ;)

Was being a bit sarcastic but I reckon Nahas could have beaten that ruckman. At worst Brad Miller could have. Still not Grundy's fault the opposition is shit. He still smashed him.

Only acceptable options from me is that we'd pick up Whitfield, Toumpas, Menzel, Macrae and possibly Vlastuin and Plowman in his stead.

Simply because it wouldn't be a talent issue for why we'd pass on him. For me, the first four I mentioned could be the next generation champions of the game. They all possess raw and unique talent, some are more ready-to-go than others, but with the right development, will all be huge. Vlastuin to me reminds me of a Swallow/Sewell type player who whilst is overlooked as a genuine gun, is probably elite for their respected positions. I think if he could add a little explosiveness to his game, could be our Joel Selwood. Plowman could be anything if moved to the midfield, reminds me a bit of Brendan Goddard. Has the skill set, has the confidence, and has the raw ability to just get around players. Super talent!

Although saying that, Grundy will be a cross between Naitanui and Cox, so you can't go wrong there either.:D

Can't really go wrong. Going to get a quality player either way. It's going to be the 2nd rounders we have to nail and if we don't get Grundy I hope we have a plan for the future. ie we have some freak kid hidden away for next year that we've told not to play TAC or whatever and we will rookie. :D

The club thinks Derickx and Woods will suffice....

Completely agree although i'd probably have whitfield and menzel over grundy only because i know little about the rest and vlastuin i'm a fan but not as big as everyone else! The thing that makes Grundy the best option is we finally have a potential option to take a big solid talented ruck, not a raw beam pole or some shit list clogger (Wood) and to be mixed as cox and nic nat well that's just the cherry on top!

In all fairness, we have Maric and Vickery, who are decent ruckmen. If Maric goes down, then we'd look at Wood/Derickx. However, whilst it would be nice to have A-grade depth, it is not going to ever occur. I'm OK with Wood to be playing with Coburg and then having a go if there's an injury. My biggest concern is with who will replace Maric when he goes.

It was reported Stringer was told at draft camp he wouldn't get past pick 9. Can't recall where I read it so take it with the proverbial. As long as the leg's ok or we're confident it will be I'd take him ahead of Vlastuin. As I would Garner. Grundy before all of them.

come on man, even Graham & Brown dominated for us in the VFL. This is what has me weary about taking a ruck as our first pick. They look good as giants amongst shorter runts in the under 18's & then play a hand full of games (for the interstate kids) against hacks in state comps & pull one/two good games. F@#k me, Billy Longer looked good last yr too. I dunno, I dont wanna take the risk but the way some posters here are going on about him he seems the next Dean Cox.
Legit question... We took Vickery at pick 8 (coz we had to re our list at the time) will Grundy be better for our team balance\structure going fwd than Vickery & Maric or go for Vlas..?!?!?! Do we try to build our team with other players & then look to poach a ruck such has been the current model (ala Geelong, Sydney & Collingwood) via free agent\trade once our team is set...

I think it will be an awfully hard decision between these two and Mayes if he is still there

I'd be going

Mayes , Grundy , Vlaston

The only reason I think we can take the chance of passing up Grundy for Mayes is because we have Griggs and he is still improving.
