Broomhead will be one of their picks. Reckon if they take Mayes/Menzel they'll go tall at the other 2nd rounder.I have a feeling Port will screw us and take Atkins.

Add Grundy and that'll make it twice in one draft and three picks in a row since last year's PSD.![]()

I looked at Thurlow, but was a little unsure on where he would play at AFL level. Size wise seems a bit of an "in betweener", and thought we already have a couple of medium defenders in Dea and Batch. What are your thoughts on his potential role at AFL level? Can't disagree with any of that. I'd probably still go Thurlow/Atkins over Smith but no guarantees they'll both be there.
Yeah, I know. I wasn't having a crack.Just passing on what i'd heard.
Yep im finally at the point where im going to be really dissapointed if we dont pick up Tigger. Grundy is still the one that make me think twice and it is a little concerning that people keep placing him in the early teens in their phantom drafts.FYI - Tristan Foelander tweeted that we have always been keen on Vlas but we wanted to see him get more of the ball. In his last 2 games he picked up 30 and 29 possessions.
So that should have settled our interest
)FWIW in 2010 they had Lucas Cook at about 10, and Swallow & Bennell didn't even make the top 10 (nor did Conca, Darling or Atley). I don't know what the hell it looks at exactly, but I wouldn't put a heap of stock in it.Interesting to hear Lonergan came in at number one in the AFL's "AFL120e" rankings. Or what shifter refers to as their "Moneyball rankings". Previous number one's have been Devon Smith and Dion Prestia.
FWIW, we would've been happy to keep him, and pay him what he's worth. We were not willing to match 4 years on something starting with 4 that Port offered. He didn't necessarily want to leave, just an offer he couldn't refuse. And even monfries went home because he wasn't wanted at the bombers. Very rarely do players go back to SA. Reminds me of a time someone from a south australian paper was in melbourne and interviewing cooney at a presser. Tried to start asking about whether he'd go back to SA and cooney said 'oh so you're from south australia? You got out too! '
Just thinking clubs are sort of leaning away from these sorts recently (at least early), often preferring to go state league guys with a few years under their belts (Derickx/Campbell).String-beans go rookie or not at all (where is Miles Bolger these days? One of the gun rucks in the U18s for 2 years there)They mentioned his weight, and how he touched up Ottens in a game this year earning praise from him, and how the new ruck rules will see clubs looking at athletic big springed jumpers.
It's nice, but I can't see how you assess Moneyball if you don't know what he'll costFWIW in 2010 they had Lucas Cook at about 10, and Swallow & Bennell didn't even make the top 10 (nor did Conca, Darling or Atley). Pretty much wherever we want him to play. He's more versatile than the other two. We obviously wanted to try Batch further up the ground in NAB Cup this year and it didn't really work and he showed he's really just a HBF but a bloody good one. Whereas I think Thurlow could play on a wing. We always push a wing back into defence loose anyway which would suit him perfectly with his reading of the play but he could also push forward and get dangerous.I looked at Thurlow, but was a little unsure on where he would play at AFL level. http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=105497Under the new system, the total of 120 points is divided so that 60 are allocated to skills, 40 are allocated to a player's athleticism and 20 are allocated to mental skills.
"We spent a lot of time modelling the best way to work out a player's overall score," Sheehan said.
"Jason McCartney and Brady Rawlings did a lot of the work. Brady's next goal is to work in recruitment and player development, so he was the ideal resource for us.
"He looked at drafts from the previous five years to see how various scoring systems worked out.
"Eventually we came up with this 120 model and felt it would give us the bottom line we're after.
"It makes all the information we gather at the draft combine and from their club coaches relevant."
I was just saying that to my brother!! haha. I want him at Richmond simply for that reason... back to catching up on this thread.Anyone else think Jesse Lonergan is a dead ringer for Mark Wahlberg?
Yeah, but in reality, pick 9 in this year's pool >>> pick 15? in last year's pool. Even probably comparable to pick 6 in 2010.Pick 9=[insert name].Thats how it feels this year.
The excitement is kinda gone because we know what we are getting I guess.Yeah, but in reality, pick 9 in this year's pool >>> pick 15? in last year's pool. Even probably comparable to pick 6 in 2010.
Well thats why we should take Grundy if available at 9.Best "tall" in the draft compared to a mid who while might be good, you could almost pick up the same at our rnd 2 selections.Yeah, but in reality, pick 9 in this year's pool >>> pick 15? in last year's pool. Even probably comparable to pick 6 in 2010.
