Would Dean Towers be worth one of Richmonds 2nd round picks? Could be a damaging wingman

Yes. And if he's there at our 3rd and we pass it's chicken shit on the doorstep. :p

Could be a blessing in disguise as Port may pass up on an inside-mid allowing us a potential first choice as WBD and Brisbane really have no need for inside midfielders. I know the first round is all about taking the best talent, and I know this is a long shot but this could be a potential order which lands us with O'Rourke.

I will concede, quite a long shot, but WBD don't need inside midfielders, they have Wallis, Liberatore and Smith, they need outside class and desperately. Similarly, Brisbane already have two elite inside mids, hence why they passed on Greene and took Longer. I can see them taking either Menzel or Mason Shaw as their KPF departments aren't too flashy since Clark left, Karnezis and Cornelius dudding in the forward-line and Browny getting old.

The draft could come out like this:
1) Lachlan Whitfield - GWS - Obvious
2) Jimmy Toumpas - GCS - Obvious
3) Jack Viney - Melb - F/S
4) Brodie Grundy - GWS - As Melb linked to Jack Martin
5) Dayle Garlett - WBD - They need outside mids and he is the best pure outside of the draft.
6) Lachlan Plowman - WBD - Perfect replacement for Lake
7) Sam Mayes - Port - SA boy and ultimate outside talent
8) Troy Menzel/Mason Shaw - Brisbane - Last piece of the puzzle to Brisbane's future midfield. They have the grunt in Redden + Rockliff, the class in Polec and Rich and the fast pace, highly skilled Menzel.
9) O'Rourke - Richmond - This would be the best result for Richmond, is the most all-round player of the draft. (other than Whitfield)

Thoughts? With the likely event of O'Rourke not lasting that long, Wines/Vlastuin would still be ripe for picking.

Wishful thinking. Melbourne will also get Viney with a 2nd rounder.
why? Melbourne have commited to him with contract, The AFL even gave permission for him to play with casey this year.

any club can bid their first round pick, thus forcing melbourne to use one of theirs, with no fear of having their bluff called. to not do so would be delerlict.

melbourne will have to pay pick 3 for viney, bookmark it

GC very keen.

On Vlastuin, in the championships where he played in defence, he reminded me so much of Steven Morris but with much better class, skill and decision making. His attack on the ball rivals Stevey too.

He is a tough bugger that is for sure. His best position is inside midfielder. He was playing back due to an ankle injury which restricted him. Before that at the Knights he was playing good football in the middle.

As I said, won't complain if we got him. Would be concerned if we took him in front of Garlett but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

GWS or GC have to bid for him to make the Dees use the No 3

Doesn't work like that... Either one of GC or GWS have to put picks 1/2 on the line in the bidding process to force Melbourne to use pick 3. I reckon the Dee's will get him with their second round pick, which will be a real bargain.

This would imply they are unlikely to be planning on using pick 2 in the mini draft... although father son bidding takes place first, and they would probably assume the Dee's will match their bid.

That is my understanding. They will bid, if successful they get a guy they highly rate, if not then they will consider mini draft. I personally have Viney outside my top ten, good player just think he will be a good player at AFL level not outstanding. It is thought GC want Viney as they want immediate help for Ablett and Swallow. More so now with Caddy going.

Hope we're at least considering Tom Lee.

with this draft is just seems like theres a little kid walking into a candy store and just cant decide what candy he wants to buy cause theres too much to choose from! id hate to be our recruiter with this decision. it seems anyone we pick will be good

Trading for Caddy's still my first preference but if that's no go, I like the sound of Wines, then Kennedy. Though I have heard that Vla Vla Vlastuin is Russia's greatest love machine.:thumbsu:

Just letting you know Vlastuin's name is pronounced Floss-Twin. Thing with Caddy is that his season has been quite poor, so I am leaning towards the draftees.

Good - we get to skip his second year blues.:thumbsu:

As for Vlastuin - you say it your way, I'll say it mine. Mine makes for a better chant though.

But then again V-Twin has a nice ring to it. We could call him "The Hog" :thumbsu:

no. only gws and gc can force the dees to use their first pick as its before them. any club after the dees selction then has to use their next pick hence the 2nd rounder. also compo picks dont count as picks which can be forced to use ie picks 4 and 13.

GC & GWS have to step upto the plate and show the other teams that when it their time to go - They will

Melbourne has been extremely underhanded and Tanked to get scully/Trengove & when scully took the dollars AFL again looked after this basket case of a club and gave them more than what he was worth 2 1st round picks

Now they actually want 4 1st round selections in 3,4,13 & Viney WTF -----------No way they should be able to Ravage the draft due to cheating ''AGAIN''

They have committed to Viney offered him a verbal Deal & recieved permission from the afl to let him train & play with casy, THEY MUST BE MADE TO SELECT HIM.

GC & GWS ------------ ITS YOUR TURN
