Nice write up Dean, But i have a couple of issues with your selections at the Picks TBH
#9. Nick Vlastuin- I think pick#9 is reaching for this kid and looks more like a 15-25 range player with question marks about his outside game and more importantly his pace.

#29. Tim Sumner- Again a little too early and i believe if we did manage to get #40 , Tim would still be available at that pick, But agree we do need the pace and X-Factor he brings to the team

#40. Cameron Symonds -Rookie selection most probably,I cant see us putting another speculative Ruck on the main list with Dericks still there and Vickery,Maric - Too many

#31. Matthew Haynes- Really like Haynes hope we do take him

with pick 9 i want O'Rourke, McCrae or Garlett with McCrae being the preference slightly over O'Rourke

I agree Vlastuin will be a bit of a reach, but like Reece Conca, it will be because he is the type of player we want. With O'Rourke and Wines seemingly gone, I could almost guarantee it.

Sumner, in my opinion is a little under-rated, or maybe I over-rate him, I may have him higher up the draft order but maybe not as early as you may think, but I'm not questioning your reasoning either.

Would be happy to have Symonds fall to the rookie draft. But I don't want to take the risk. This bloke is huge and can play. Ivan and TV will be in the starting 22. So 2/3 (Derickx, Symonds and [ and a rookie maybe , kid or American])
I understand your speculation, however a Grundy/Naitanui won't be around at any 18 yo ruckman will be specualtive too so for me at #40 Symonds is ready made.

Better get Haynes ;)

The only reason that i question the Symonds selection is that for the 1 position on the ground I cant justify having 3 players on the senior list , specially with vickery already there also - That actually make 4 players

10% of the list to cover 1 spot that Maric will probably occupy anyway - Either Derickx & Graham go to get another on the main list or go for a Rookie ruckman.

I actually would love the picks that Knightmare has given us in his Phanton but would prefer
Liam McBean,Josh Simpson, Dean Towers with our pick #31

#9 Richmond – Jackson Macrae (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 03/08/1994
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers

#29 Richmond – Matthew Haynes (VIC - Util)
Height: 189cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 19/03/1994
Recruited from: Northern Knights

#31 Richmond- Nathan Hrovat (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 174cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 07/06/1994
Recruited from: Northern Knights

#50 Richmond- Marco Paparone (WA– KPF/Mid)
Height: 193cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 03/09/1994
Recruited from: East Fremantle - Notice he is september 1994
so just turned 18 will proably still grow 2-3cm

Paparone listed as KPF/Mid? Geez, fair bit of height for someone listed as being able to go into the middle!

I like the sound of Hrovat... sounds like the kinda guy who may not have massive upside, but is ready to go, and does pretty much everything well. If he was a couple of inches taller and/or had a touch more pace, many seem to think he would be a definite first rounder. Love to get him at 29/31.

Hrovat measured in at 175cm now, minimal I know, but when people discriminate height it matters.

The kid will be a very good AFL player, if he lasts till our second round picks, jump for joy!

That is of course if our guys rate him or not.

Would be stoooookked

Really like haynes and hrovat

Haynes & Macrae are both 188-189 cm tall - I love on ballers that are tall big bodied and can stand up in tackles and have genuine speed.

Dean Towers would be great at #31
Dean Towers (VIC – Mid)
Height: 189cm, Weight: 83kg

Pretty certain Dean Towers will be a first round selection. A lot of clubs were stunned by his Combine. Stunned. I think he will be selected before 20 now. If I had to guess, Collingwood at 17 or 18 will take him. 22 years old, ready to go, a flyer, will help them straight away.

We're getting 31 and 33 picks after FA picks

Pick 9 - O'Rourke/ Macrae/ Plowman

Plowman:
-Plays as KPD though at AFL level i see him either playing of the half back in Goddard type role or he could play in the middle as a pendlebury type though more of a brute. Ball use good and reads the game very well and with Deledio now being a midfielder i feel we miss someone to intercept opposition this is where I could see Plowman being the player to intercept opposition kicks and provide run out of the back line like deledio did prior to this year.

Macrae:
-Midfielder with fantastic ball use, similar to Gaff in that he weights his kicks perfectly and is largely an outside player in saying this I feel Macrae is better inside and will get even better once he works on it. He can also go forward and kick a goal and could/ most likely will play as a half forward in first year.

O'Rourke:
- Another midfielder who has a good mix of inside and outside game. His ball use is very good and while an inside midfielder he isn't the one on the bottom of the back feeding it out, he is the one who burst away from the pack like an ablett rather then a Kennedy. He makes good decisions and finds the right target and can go forward and kick a goal. Would add to our midfield making it very strong and would mean we have another midfielder who can kick goals .Barracks for Richmond making me like him even more.

Pick 29 - Adam Carter/ Broomhead/ Hrovat/ Simpson/ Towers

Carter:
- Midfielder/ Half back flanker who is good one on one and uses the ball well by foot. Would play him at Half back if we drafted him as I felt this year we lacked run out of defence. Though this depends on what we do with Batchelor as if he is going to be playing on talls we need to get another flanker in but if he is going to be used for his run out of defence we won't need to get another half back flanker in.

Pick 31 - Adam Carter/ Atkins/ Lowrie

Pick 50 - Herbert/ Paparone/ Heavyside/ Warrell

Herbert:
-Half forward flanker who could be a steal. He is a strong mark and a good lead up forward, his ball use good and can change a game in 5 minutes. Im not sure how many goals he scored this year but he kicked three on a number of occasions.

Paparone:
-This guy remind me of Richo but without the marking ability in saying this Paparone is still a decent mark. Athletically he is very good but what lets him down is kicking in front of goal see the similarity with Richo? Personally think Paparone future will be on a wing where he wont need to be a dominate mark and he can use his work rate to find the ball as well as using it to go forward and kick a goal.

Haven't done a review for everyone and doubt I will but I feel some of these guys are worth discussing.

Haynes is tall and extremely quick but certainly is not big bodied, far from it

But he's a gun. Last year he was a certain top ten pick, most recruiters won't forget that. Jet.

A guy that size, with that speed. Intriguing midfield prospect at AFL level.

Hypothetically if Francis shocked us and called his name at Pick 9, I wouldn't be upset. Shocked yes, but he is a prospect I have trust we could develop into a top liner.

I 100% agree! have watched him play for a few years could definitely see him becoming a very good afl footballer, was just pointing out that he needs many a gym session to be considered big bodied

Francis certainly likes the underrated kids.

but I still think there's a concerted effort to use our first rounder on a kid that can slot right into the side, that's why I'm sure we'll take a bigger bodied midfielder, if it was up to me though I'd be grabbing Membrey or Stringer with a long term view of them playing midfield/ forward but being able to start as a 3rd tall. High risk high reward. Guarantee if they both drop into the mid to late 20's they'll be the new Darlings.

For me it would be something like this
#9- O'Rourke- favourite player in the draft, does it inside and outside, will be an absolute star
#29- Graham- was very impressed with his TAC grand-final, showed real grunt and class
#31- Hrovat- at the moment has just about the most complete game of any draftee, will be a gun
#50- Coloquhoun- good size and elite kick coming off half-back, would be suprised to see him still here

Big no to to Paparone. He is a poor man's Jarred Brennan and can't kick for his life.

His negatives completely weigh out the positives. BIG NO!

For me...

Nick Vlastuin/Jackson Macrae: 9
Broomhead/Haynes/Graham: 29
McBean/Hrovat: 31
Colquhoun/Symonds( if take Hrovat): 50
Agree. Paparone isn't one I'd be taking at all. I'd add Atkins into that group at 31. Doubt McBean will be there. Pretty sure we are looking at Symonds. Big fella is a good kick from the minimal amount I've seen him.
