I would prefer any 1 of Garlett,Macrae,Plowman,Mayes,Wines,O'Rourke before Vlastuin tbh,We need more pace in the midfield
Dean Towers would be a good get with #32/#34
All of which are a good chance to be gone by 9. Excluding Garlett.

Personally I'd still take Vlastuin as I see him filling a bigger need for us than Macrae does. Thats not to say that Macrae isn't a worthy choice just that when I put down who I want its based more on needs over best available.
Fair call. He does fit a need. I'd personally go Macrae as I think he adds class to our mids/fwds and has a bit more flexibility and I think he's the better player currently plus has more upside. Won't break the TV over Vlastuin though. Think he'll be a very good player.

I said in July that we were keen on Vlastuin, and from what I've heard our opinion of him hasn't changed. Absolute beauty he is, he's a Selwood type in the middle but can go on the back flank and be a a cross of Batchelor and Morris. As in the ability to play taller and be a good contested mark in Batchelor, but also be fast and provide good run off the back flank.

I think he'll be a gem. I just hope he isn't gone by our pick. Agree with Damo too, I would only take Mayes ahead of him, and maybe Macrae, but still unsure on the latter.

I heard Vlastuin isn't that fast.. Hoping we get someone with a bit more mobility at 9 if we had 14 I reckon Vlastuin would be great but at 9 I expect their to be someone else on the board who will be a better prospect. Wont be that disappointed if we reached for him though will be a solid AFL player.

MR/tigs/TFLUA/Toadvine, if it were down to O'Rourke and Vlastuin, who would you take and why?
Everything is so even this year. I really like O'Rourke. Him and Mayes have been my favourites all year. I really like his hands in close and his athleticism and skills. My only issue with him is how similar is he to a Conca, whereas Vlastuin is a really big body that we need. I'd probably still go O'Rourke though. Can't jump off his bandwagon this late. :D

Midfielders please. :D

Toadvine. H/S guy reckons 36 too early for Pongracic. May be in with a sneaky chance at 43 if that's the case. #yourboy

Sam Landsberger? Wouldn't surprise me too much too see him get to pick 40+ it's what happened to similar players in Luke Parker, Mitch Hallahan and Mitch Grigg in previous drafts. I suppose those lists of names shows how these types of players are rated by the clubs.

Very good question. I probably rate O'Rourke higher, but I think Vlastuin would be much more beneficial for our club, hence why I'd draft him. O'Rourke for me still needs to put on a lot of weight and as we have a few inside receivers, will likely be played out of position and not really click for a few years, but when he does will be an absolute gun. This means that in the next 2-3 years, he won't be providing much to our best 22 which is quite difficult considering that will be when our window is opening. That said, I wouldn't be disappointed if we got O'Rourke, because I think he'll be the better player, but it's quite hard to shine in a midfield of Cotchin, Martin, Deledio, Conca, Foley and Tuck.

Vlastuin, like Ellis, already has a frame to work with and will likely play round 1 if drafted. With the capability of playing on a back-flank, he'll allow Newman/Ellis to play in the midfield, with small spurts in the middle himself. He is a natural ball winner and he likes to rip the ball out of the pack. The best thing that works for Nick is that he'll be eased into the inside midfielder role, like Conca has been in the past two years. So in his first few years, he'll be a best 22 player off the back-flank, and when Tuck goes, he'll go straight in and be his replacement. Vlastuin would compliment our midfield sweetly.

A bit off topic from the ND but Melbourne has just delisted a few interesting players that will surely have a crack at the PSD or Rookie drafts.

Lucas Cook - Pick 12 in 2010 draft - CHF - I have no idea why they got rid of him, apparently had a fall-out with the coaches, but would definitely want us to have a look at him. Trust a team like Melbourne to delist a first round KPP in his 2nd year.

Ricky Petterd - A few whispers this year that we were into him, but I can't see an immediate need as we just picked up Edwards. He had quite a good 2011 from memory.

Matthew Bate - Would have filled a need but we just picked up Edwards so pass.

Would take Petterd and Cook but only in the rookie draft. Bate is to similar to Edwards and I think someone like Port should pick him up. Petterd is also similar to Edwards but has more upside to his game then Bate does and thats why as a depth player I would take him in the rookie draft if available.

Out of those two who would you take?

For me its Vlastuin. He has a fair bit of Luke Hodge about him.

Very tough call, both have claims, Vlastuin has his fans here but if I had to choose right now it would be Garner. I think he is just as versatile, but for me he has a touch more class. Both solid kids, and as I said wont have any qualms in us taking Vlas at Pick 9, he is a safer choice, but in my opinion Garner is just in front. This will go against most junior scribes mate, but then again you know me, I have an opinion and won't worry about that.

Garner has a lot of development still to go, his ceiling is higher for mine.

Yer it was Landsberger. If it was the other bloke I wouldn't have bothered. At 43 Pongracic would represent excellent value.

Now that we've got 43, what are people's thoughts on taking a punt on Spencer White?

Another I'd be happy to take at 43. Wrote earlier in the thread I'd be happy with him as our last pick.

Agree, Vlastuin probably the better fit but O'Rourke is the better player.

Cook - I'd look at as a rookie or if we delist McGuane or Post. Could be worth a crack over McGuane.

Petterd - Definitely worth a look. Think he is a bit different to Edwards and they could co-exist. Petterd is more a small-medium forward where as Edwards is the medium sized KPF. Petterd can offer good defensive pressure and could play as a 4th tall in the fwd line. Cut McGuane for sure to get him.

Bate - Rather have kept Angus. That's my opinion on Bate. He's shit.

Cook and Petterd would now be overkill for us.
Petterd, 50 games in 6 years at Melbourne! Would most likely be forward/mid and we now it sounds like our mids will rest forward. Also got O'Hanlon, Sheds in that role.
Cook, big wraps but prob behind TV, Astbury, Elton.

So I'd definitely look at Cook, could be an option.

I think Vlaustin would fit perfectly at the Tigers, i really hope we get him. Also i will not be happy if we pick up Macrae. He looks a great player but a friend of mine is at school with him and says he is a d/h and a major party boy.

The culture at the Swans is one of the main reasons they won this year and Vlaustin to me fits that mold. I see a potential future captain.

I think you will find the majority of the players who go in the draft are all party boy's.

Cook was AA CHF in the under 18's. Considering it's one position no-one has made their own yet, he seems an intriguing option. Not sure why he's been delisted after two years, but I'd be having a look.

Cook was a terrible selection in the first round and as it was discussed at the time did SFA in the Championships let alone enough to warrant AA selection. He had one good game kicking 5 and in most others did very little worth mentioning. You only need to go back to the comments made when he was drafted and the 2010 phantoms to see why he hasn't worked out.
