Two I'd very much look at. Chris was a Spencer fan before most, and I only got a look at him late in the season - but he was very good. Think he's got quite a bit to play with.

Harley Walshe's size makes him a really intriguing prospect. Probably the type the Tigers could do with an extra one of.

Sean Gregory, Alex Howson and Nick Rodda are 3 others I'd like to think we'd look at late if they're there.

Apparently he had the better of Daniher and Membrey this year.....not too shabby;) Not much of a rebounder out of defence but very good at stopping oponent. We will need a FB in 3-4 years when Chaplin is finished so would look to get someone either this year or next to fill that void

Dave Mathews I think his name is, the CEO from GWS said today on SEN that they had been discussing Tippett and as long as the price was right they would be keen.

It would be a bizarre turn of events if the team that finished dead last could not fit into their cap a player that the reigning premiers could.

If Tippett nominates for the ND this could really stir things up and maybe Grundy might be a reality.

Walshe is the one for me with his height. I also think he will fill out far better than Gregory.

I'd take Gregory ahead of Walshe. They are both essentially the same height at around 196/197cm, and while Walshe may have about 5-8kg on Gregory at the moment, I just don't see him as having the same upside. Gregory is very athletic for his size, and has more versatility. Both will be rookies, and long term rookies at that. But I think Gregory has more tools to make it at AFL level.

...or 6 if the club makes the right call on Edwards.;)

I know he's not that highly rated and obviously has some issues but just watched Spencer White highlights. Wowee does he look like Buddy playing. Dare to dream picking him up and him following a similar path. I can dream can't I???

You'll find theirs a reason he goes at 40+ comapred to Buddy at 5 even though Buddy had the issues heading into his draft.

If we took spencer, we sure as hell will be trying to turn him into a defender - Thats just what we do
Yer Riewoldt looks like a gun CHB. a huge number of current AFL KPD were junior forwards. It's because the talented kids play forward.

You see effectively you are agreeing with me !

Jack & Tyrone are the only 2 that we left in their junior positions - It works when you play them in their best possitions.

What do the following players have in common?

Lake
Leppitsch
Ried
Chad Cornes
Bock
McPharlin
Croad

They were all recruited as forwards and dominated as defenders

#9 Vlastuin/Garner/O'Rourke/Macrae, we will get a good player here regardless, preference is Macrae
#32 Josh Simpson- Fantastic too watch, just reminds me of Jetta out on a wing, deadly, could see him going way earlier then this however im afraid
#34 Hrovat- Foley's successor, favourite player in the draft
#43 White- Saw him play a school game before i knew who he was or anything about him and he was just rampant, can slot them from outside 50 as well, looked very raw, just freakish ability.

Thought I'd do a little analysis on a few of the players available at our respective picks. Will do picks 32/34 as the one analysis tomorrow and 43 the day after.

Starting with our first rounder (choices in order of preference):

Pick 9 (going off who Brett Anderson has in line for us as he'd have a better idea than me who we want)

Jackson Macrae

JM482x.jpg

Height: 188cm
Weight: 75kg
Where he fits at Richmond? Think he'd slot in nicely as a half-forward/winger at some stage in 2013. Eventually becoming a midfielder full-time.
What I like: Super classy left-footed midfielder/forward who will be able to provide a bit of x-factor to the side. Up there with the best kicks in the draft. (Rate Mayes as 1) Very elusive, almost impossible to tackle with his neat little side step. Although capable of racking up a heap of the ball, he can still cause damage on a less prolific day which is what I like about him. Very tough to shutdown. As an outside midfielder he has very good pace. (not up there with a Garlett/Simpson but still very good) Macrae has a real knack of finding the goals, evidenced by his 6 goal haul at the Championships. Has the class of a Pendlebury crossed with the x-factor of a Stevie J type so what's not to like?
Kicking/Character/Competitive (win own ball)? He's an elite kick, and a very driven and competitive kid from what I've seen so he'd tick all 3 boxes from the club's end.
Highlights:

Taylor Garner

garner-taylor-140x210.jpg

Height: 186cm
Weight: 77kg
Where he fits at Richmond? As a high half-forward pinch hitting in the middle.
What I like: For a medium forward he has elite aerial ability. Can just pluck them from anywhere. Very much made in the Nat Fyfe mould with that ability to outmark anyone. Would add a real x-factor to our side both in the air and at ground level. What surprises me is his defensive game. Often you get these high level x-factor forwards at junior level and they have a limited defensive game. This kid loves to tackle and really has that intent to hurt and hit in hard. IMO Garner also has the ability to be a very good midfielder at the next level as he has a very good contested game already. Really think he has the potential to emulate Nat Fyfe at AFL level. If we take him question is do we want him as a forward or a mid and how much of each does he play. Wouldn't surprise by draft time if I have him as my first choice. Want to try get some more footage of him though.
Kicking/Character/Competitive (win own ball)? Is a good kick without being elite, very high character kid, driven and motivated and as mentioned for a medium forward he has a very good contested game both in the air and in the midfield.
Highlights:

Nick Vlastuin

vlastuin246.jpg

Height: 187cm
Weight: 83kg
Where he fits at Richmond? Would start as a HBF and I'd say logically he'd be groomed as the Shane Tuck replacement. Probably need to wait at least 2 years before we can expect him to start shouldering even half that load though so hoping Tucky hangs in there a while.
What I like: Really strong bodied contested ball winner that you just know Hardwick would love. If we had the luxury of selecting all four of the guys I've listed at this pick, I'd say Vlastuin would be the one Hardwick would take into battle in round 1. I know some have knocked his athleticism but the more I see of him the more I think it is a non-issue. His kicking is very good even more so when you consider the role he'd play.
Kicking/Character/Competitive (win own ball)? Very good kick of the footy, very high-character kid who some have touted him as a future AFL captain at whichever club he ends up at (Could be a fair wait for him at Tigerland while we have Cotch. :p) A real contested beast. So again he ticks all the boxes.
Highlights:

Sam Mayes

1_U18QLDSA11CG%20376.jpg

Height: 187cm
Weight: 78kg
Where he fits at Richmond? Like Macrae I could see him spending some time as a half-forward/winger next year before eventually becoming a classy midfielder. Would need to be patient which isn't something this supporter base is renowned for.
What I like: First of all he's already competing against men despite his slender frame. To me, that's already a tick. I rate Mayes as the best kick in this draft. His delivery inside 50 to Jack/Tyrone would be much appreciated by them. Very good at converting his opportunities in front of the big sticks as well. Last year dominated as a medium forward type and he creates fantastic separation on his opponent when on the lead. Still needs to develop a contested game and I'd be pairing him with Cotchin over the pre-season to develop this. Really strong overhead and worst case scenario is he becomes a very good medium forward capable of kicking a couple of goals a game.
Kicking/Character/Competitive (win own ball)? Best kick in the draft for mine, apparently a high character kid. As mentioned I don't think he falls behind Macrae in the contested stakes and doesn't win a huge amount of ball. Very damaging when he does get it though. For this reason I have Macrae ahead of Mayes and why Mayes is the last of the 4 I've listed.
Highlights:

Should use our 3rd rounder on Emmanuel Irra, saw a bit of play where he just had such good awareness and hit his teammate on the chest with a kick across the body, good with hands and feet giving us that x-factor. Although have concerns about his ball winning ability. If we can drill that drive into him I think we'll get ourself a gem. Not so keen on Tim Sumner anymore.

Boo-urns man. Was going to do a write-up for him at 43. :p

Don't forget we could be moving up a position from round 2 onwards.:thumbsu:

Maybe even 2-3 positions if the AFL is fair dinkum about the Melbourne tanking investigation which according to Caro in The Age has just taken a more serious turn. (fingers & toes crossed):thumbsu::thumbsu:
