I posted this on the Carlton board, but figured you lot would find it handy also,

Emma Quayle was on SEN yesterday morning discussing the draft, she had some pretty interesting thoughts:

  • GWS will select: (1) Whitfield, (2) Toumpas, (3) Menzel
  • Grundy will slide as far as Richmond's selection (Pick #9).
  • Wines a certainty to be picked up by Melbourne at Pick #4.
  • Menzel is her pick to be the best player in the draft, has the ability to break games open and turn them on their head, and that will appeal to GWS, especially given their number of picks, they can afford to take a risk given his injuries.

She knows her stuff. The Grundy rumour was around from a month ago. It's a real chance, we think it will happen.

Oh yeah and as I said in the last two days, Menzel would be the most talented player in the draft.

The only legitimate threat between Richmond and Grundy (outside of GWS) would be Port Adelaide - who would pick either Menzel or Mayes IMO, but in saying that - I think he will fall to Pick #9.

Yeah no doubt. I was told Port valued Three other players before Grundy. I think it's a real possibility now.

Wow. Big Kev

FYI - Quayle has rated Grundy as the best big guy in the draft before. Even ahead of Daniher

By the way, if Grundy does get to 9, is there any chance we wouldn't take him?

From what I am told, we will.

I think he is a far better ruck than Daniher, not as good a forward, but more aggressive. It would be close. We are also just touching the surface with Grundy, he has played basketball all his junior life, newish to football.

If we call his name out, time to party.

I doubt it.

If he fell to Pick #9 I don't think Richmond would be able to read his name out fast enough, given you cut Graham and Browne, and would look to base Vickery as a permanent KPF.

FWIW I don't think he's a better prospect than Daniher, but thats a personal opinion.

Quayle also mentioned that the midfielders were much better than the KP prospects in this draft, which is another reason why he could slide.

In my opinion I have Daniher slightly in front because to me he is a Key Forward and will take some stopping. Not a player I have seen before like him. Is so mobile and a great mark and great below his knees.

In saying that, Grundy's improvement up forward this year has been amazing. He is getting to understand the game more and more. I see him now being just as comfortable there as in the ruck. I honestly think he could be everything Tippett is up forward but with more aggression and better at ground level. He could easily be our third forward next year. He is ready to go.

Also, in the comment about mids being better than KPP, well yes except for Daniher and Grundy. Whitfield, Toumpas and Menzel the smaller stars, after that, I'd take Grundy easily. Easily. Without a shadow of doubt.

Port probably see him as just a ruckman. I am different, he is ruck\forward.

Would be stoked with Grundy but I've got my heart set on Tigger Flosstwin now... Don't know what I want anymore...

Am I missing something with WB and Melbourne? It's not like they have a lot more ruck talent than us.

Melbourne have Jamar who is almost 30, Gawn had a lot of injuries and who else??

WB have Minson, Cordy who is more a forward and Roughead who my bulldogs mates tell me is a backmen now?

We have Maric and Vicks which is IMO the best combo.

I'd be stoked if we got Grundy but it seems to me these two clubs are being strange to overlook his quality as a Ruckman??

Its time for some Grundy propaganda

Draft hope "a match winner"

FORMER Adelaide recruiter Matthew Rendell says young South Australian ruckman Brodie Grundy will be ready to step up to AFL level next year.

Grundy is shaping as a likely top-10 pick in this year's draft on the back of stellar performances for his state in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Speaking on Channel 9's TAC Cup Future Stars program, Rendell, who has been mentoring the young ruckman in his role with the state team, called Grundy a match-winner.

"He's a really competitive ruckman and as a bottom-ager last year I reckon he won two games for South Australia by himself," Rendell said.

"Someone's going to get a beauty there."

If we take Vlastuin before Grundy, I will be upset.
I completely agree. Grundy will be one of the elite ruckmen in the AFL. I have no doubts whatsoever about that claim because he has the work rate, the intensity, and the skill.

Richmond will like him too considering he does charity runs too. We love a good character.

Wondered why we recruited Aaron Edwards .

He is a great kid.

It's such a no brainer to take this kid if he is there, let's hope Port don't realise it. The three I heard they are looking at are Menzel, Mayes and Membrey. I was told they want one of them at Pick 7.

They are our only danger. Melbourne if they select are taking Wines, and the Bulldogs believe they are ok for a ruckman. To me, they are playing Ayce as that forward/ruckman they won't take Grundy. So that leaves Port and Brisbane. The Lions took Longer last year so count them out (They will be spewing they did now they had a chance with Grundy who is a level above Longer).

The addition of Brodie Grundy to our list would be fantastic. I know Rendell rates him at number one in this draft. Had a lot to do with him as that article suggests. How many more bloody days left?

Love the look of Grundy - basketball background is pretty obvious looking at that deft soft touch he has in his hitouts. Also looks like a no-nonsense footy player which is important especially for ruckmen. If we get him we probably won't have to stress about our starting ruck for the next ten years (which would make up for the stress of the last ten years).

WB, Port, and Melbourne would be remiss to let him slide to us! It just might take them three or four years to realise it!
