I can see any one of Melbourne, Dogs, Port or Lions taking Wines but there's a fair whack of talent in this draft so here's hoping he slips.

I can't see Melbourne taking Wines, they don't need extractors, they need class players. Dogs definitely don't need inside mids, Wallis, Liberatore, Smith, Boyd, Cross just to name a few. Port, yes they definitely need an inside mid but may go Plowman to recover the loss of Chaplin. Lions have pretty good extractors, Redden, Rockliff, Polec and will probably go for an outside/KPP. So it is quite realistic.

All good points. I guess it comes down to how each club rates him as a talent. Melbourne would only take him if they managed to get Viney in the 2nd round, and the dogs as you say have a fair bit of inside talent, but if they think Wines is too good to pass up they may take him anyway given they've got 2 top ten picks. That early in the draft it's more about talent than needs IMO.

Spot on, though I think Port would be hoping for Toumpas, SA boy and maybe Mayes, another SA boy.

Also it's likely one of gold coast, melbourne or the dogs will trade for a mini draft pick meaning GWS will almost certainly get Grundy as well as whitfield.

Yep, it's a fairly long shot, but not entirely unrealistic. I think a lot depends on whether GWS or GC make a bid for Viney. If they don't they will piss off 15 other clubs who effectively slip down a spot in the first round! Viney isn't worth a top 5 pick by reading phantoms. Unlikely that melbourne will pick him with pick 3.

they have viney already playing for casey and said they will 100% pick him no matter what at which team bids. similair to what davad swallow did with gold coast

If I had a top 5 pick I wouldn't take Viney. Melbourne will and have to now. So it would be very smart for GWS or particularly GC to bid knowing this.

Viney is a good young talent, hard, can get the ball in congestion but I don't have him in my top 5.

At our selection, would love O'Rourke to be there, or Kennedy or Gartlett. Any one of these would make me beyond happy.

melbourne will be hoping like hell that they dont bed otherwise they get him with their 2nd round pick as the compensation picks cannot be used on father sons

GWS and GCS would be silly not to offer their first rounder for Viney.

Imagine how the Melbourne fans and media would react if Melbourne ended up passing on him.

Painted themselves into a corner.

i know they'll take him im just saying that him not being considered a top 5 pick by gws or gc would mean that he'll get picked up with their 2nd round pick meaning we'll get the end of the stick

I wonder if we'd consider trading down our first rounder.
If we are keen on Vlastuin, as an example, and think he'll be there at 15, or so, there may be options for us

Just a thought

If Grundy is available at pick 9 do we take him? For me it is a no brainer to take him but I know many want midfielders. I feel we need a first round ruck to develop under Maric, not a late pick or pre season speculative pick to try and develop into a ruck

Nic Naitanui and nothing less. Don't want.

Let's talk about Jake Stringer.
Hideous break of his leg last year, but came back pretty well.
Surely won't be there at 29. 9-worthy? Absent that leg injury, we wouldn't get a look at him even then
