My thinking was more along the lines of the fact that 2 of the following 14 would be available at 13 (with the obvious ones less likely) But they're all names that have been thrown up for discussion in this thread.

Daniher, Whitfield, Macrae, Grundy, Viney, Toumpas, Wines, Plowman, Mayes, O’Rourke, Stringer, Vlastuin,Garlett, Kennedy

It depends on whether we are desperate for one player in particular or not. If downgrading means that instead of drafting at pick 50 we have 4 picks inside the top 30-35 and are still able to get one of a group of players we're happy with it makes it a lot more appealing.

I wanted to say kennedy would suit both needs as a fast and skillful player as well as an inside mid. Possibly less risk than garlett. The other player would be o'rourke.
I would like mcbean in the nepxt round along with a big bodied inside mid. I'm not opposed to trading for stevens from eagles.

Exactly. Yet here we are. Hawthorn took the risk and it has more than paid off. Fortune favours the brave. Where have I seen that before?

the problem with that is we have done this before and failed. in fact so has the hawks (dowler, musten, thorpe) but just got lucky with buddy.

Three quarter time here in the final. Great game.

Just on this, what? Dowler and Musten were injury risks not risks in terms of any issues? Thorp yes I agree, but that is one? I don't see the point to be honest. Some kids don't make it for a range of reason. Remember Dylan Smith been taken years ago, captain of Vic Metro, midfielder, model pro, never made it. Can give you many examples.

Garlett has not got the issues as bad as you guys are making out. In fact, I would say he has proven his commitment to his career this season.

no bob not saying anything about off field issues at all. just saying we have drafted 1st rd players that didnt make it with either skill/off field/none at all issues just as other clubs have as well. thats all. no reference to off field stuff at all from me. its been our development thats been worse imo.

FWIW, the TAC Future Stars panel - consisting of Terry Wallet - just predicted Richmond to take defender Lachlan Plowman with pick 9. Considered the best key backman in the draft.

Also, I know a Membry type is probably not on our radar, but geez he looks good from what little I've seen.

Membrey is on our radar.

Can't see him lasting to the second round. Would love him on our list.

One on one he'll find it much harder in afl.

Macrae at 9 is something I'd like. Though bob really has talked me into Garlett too.

If we still have 9, I'll be pleased with what's available there.

Membrey is on our radar.

We'd need to use pick 9. No way he won't go before pick 29. He is a gun. So much presence. What a game today. Thought he and Nick Graham were best on. You want to know a Sam Mitchell type who may be available at our second rounders? Look no further. Is a one grab player, great sense of the game around him, excellent vision, hard worker, great disposer.

Get your Garlett or Macrae type at pick 9, to me, not a whole lot of difference between Vlastuin and Graham. Membrey, he is exactly what we need. That third marking forward. Just a great talent. We won't get him, I suggest he will be a first rounder now.

Sorry mate, my apologies misread your post! Was at the game and trying to read the forum on a tablet.

Garlett or Macrae for me now. Done. Those are the two I want at that pick. I seriously think he may go top 6 with Bulldog recruiters very happy when he was announced as best on ground.

Here's my report of the game.

Oakleigh was really strong early, they were just winning the contests and were just that much more classy than their opponents, Billings slotted the first, a snap under some pressure about 15m out. He was incredible the entire game. He is one of the most natural footballers that I have ever seen. Membrey was huge again, not as big as last week but took around 3 marks in the opening 5 minutes and he hardly lost his feet. He provides great pressure on the defenders and looks after his teammates. Macrae spent extended time up forward and was very good, missed a few shots and I have a few question marks over his kicking action but when he has the ball, he finds space and is a great runner. Macrae is in a way like Pendlebury in the way that he is a smooth mover, just finds the gaps and can get around players easily. Very very smart footballer and has that aura of arrogance, which I like. Kristian Jaksch was good, took some really good contested marks including a hangar and was good on the lead. He was moved into defence at around half-time and didn't look out of place at all. Jay Kennedy-Harris was prominent too and is an exact replica of Robin Nahas, I mean, there is no closer comparison. He'll need to put on some size though if he's going to make it. Similar to Kennedy-Harris, Jordan Collopy was really good on the outside and loves to take players on, he has good pace and a good kick. I wouldn't mind us having a look at him. I also liked Aiden Franetic from the Chargers, he was really good today. He is an excellent kick but made a few blues when the heat was on.

At half time Oakleigh were up by around 20 points and for me, their class was just too overwhelming. However, a few guns of Gippsland stood up and a beauty of a game began to unfold. My BOG for me, Nicholas Graham was absolutely incredible. After half-time he literally put Gippsland on his shoulders. He won an incredible amount of clearances and even went forward and slotted around 3. He is a Luke Hodge type, after this game I would be ecstatic if we could snag him with our 2nd round, but I now have some doubts whether he will last that far. Other than Membrey who was the focal point for the whole game, GP's other KPF was Josh Scott. He was pretty ordinary in the first half but he worked himself into the game. He was brilliant in the last half and he was very confident in his abilities. His style reminds me of Jack Watts, but maybe not the same level of athleticism. William Hams was also pretty decent. He is fast, he loves to take players on, is good overhead and is a goal-kicker. There was one really impressive play where he was running through the corridor after taking on like 2-3 Chargers, he kicked it to Membrey who was 50m out infront, who was spoiled and the ball went into space, he sprinted to the ball, did a clean pick-up and snapped truly from around 45m out.

Power got on top of Oakleigh and were up by 2 goals with around 5 minutes to go. Some excellent work by Billings and another player who now eludes me saw Oakleigh break even with their opposition. With 30 seconds to go the Chargers won a clearance, the ball got to the wing. Collopy got the ball and found Macrae, alone 45m out near the boundary. Macrae practically waltzed in, kicked a behind and the siren went. It was quite an entertaining finish to a great game. Last mention I'd like to give goes to Jarryd Drew, who along with Graham and Membrey was part of Power's resurgence. He is an inside-mid with pace, attacks the ball like Morris and can go forward and snag a few, which was evident when he kicked a clutch goal to put GP in the lead.

If anyone has some questions about the game, I'd be happy to answer them.

Great game summary mate! Fantastic read.

Not too much I disagree with there, maybe Jaksch's performance overstated a tad but other than that, spot on.

Nicholas Graham, I am confident we can obtain with pick 29. Will be touch and go but certainly the one I want at that spot.

Id be bloody devastated if this came to fruition..ffs , all year we proved to be lacking a forward option or more...thats the area that needs to be addressed , with chaplin coming, our req for more key defenders can be put back whilst other areas are prioritised

Wouldn't be too concerned... did they get it right last year... or the year before... or the year before that....

I'd be a little baffled, but not upset. Plowman is going to be a gun defender and along with Rance, Grimes and Griffiths our backline would be more than solid for a decade. It would free us up to take mids with all other selections and as bob pointed out there's probably not alot of difference between someone like Vlastuin and Nick Graham who we could possibly get with a 2nd rounder.

Maybe just along with Rance and Grimes. Perhaps we see Plowman as a key to put Griffiths back up fwd and be that CHF we need.

With that in mind I wouldn't mind having a crack at offering up our first 3 picks for Tyson and picks 21 & 24 from GWS. That ma put us in position to get either or both of the guys you are talking about. I know its a long shot but until you put the deal out there you just never know.

Well our first three picks and a player would need to be offered.

Anyway, let's deal with there here and now. We have picks 9, 29 and 31. I cannot see Membrey falling into those picks and now I doubt we will see Macrae at our Pick 9. I love Graham at our pick 29. Is a chance to make it there.

Pick 9, gotta get a star.
