He is a Tiger supporter as well? Really like the 20 secs i saw of him on TAC Future stars a few weeks back. Just looked a class player/mover and skill. Only 20secs but it caught my eye. Without seeing proper footage of anyone yet, O'Rourke is the player i want as well.

That's the sort of due diligence that saw us recruit JON:eek:

With the likes of Jackson Macrae and Kristian Jaksch seemingly improving each week, and underrated guys like Nick Vlastuin still hanging around, the competition for top 10 is really heating up. And I think Kennedy might just miss out, although who knows what'll happen if Port Adelaide are gifted an early compensation pick. Personally, I wouldn't have him missing the top 20 though.

Surely the Afl cant possibly gift them a top 10 selection for Chaplin & Pierce (pick at the end of 1st round i could live with) But should be seperate picks - Seems crazy too hand out compensation picks in a free agency envoiroment

PAT AMBROSE BEEP TEST: 16.3
he did this training with essendon last week, the AFL record is 16.1, he smashed it!
he is 6 ft 5 inches, 100 kg and played at coburg then old xavs at CHF this year. played u23 vic state team against WA this year, came 2nd in old xavs B&F to Mathew Ball by one vote AND missed 4 games.
he is training with hawthorn next week, and talking to sydney, but not richmond.
his brother, murphy ambrose is training with collingwood, but not richmond either.
murphy is definatley the better prospect much miore of a natural footballer

Thanks :thumbsu: Just confirms he looks the goods. This is one of the reasons i'm a little against downgrading pick 9. After Whitfield, i remembering seeing an article or hearing on the radio from a team's recruiter that picks 2-10 you could put a blanket over, it is that even. If we downgraded pick 9 to say pick 13 like some of the deals are suggesting (yes i know we do get that extra 1st round pick with the suggested deals), we could miss out on the true 'A' graders and get someone who is a slight drop down in class. We must get the best MIDFIELDER available, and at pick 9 we can and should get a gem.

That can work both ways !
Perhaps we are going to miss on that true A grade with # 9 but might get 1 out of 2 correct or perhaps even the 2 picks #12+#14

The club will know if the player we want will be around at what picks we have and if its worth down grading,I remember before the Martin Draft we were not prepared to take #6+#13 for #3 because Dusty would have been gone. But last year we were happy to downgrade to #15 because we knew GWS didnt have any interest in Ellis

But i like the Idea of having 2 of Vlastuin,O'Rourke,Garlett,Stringer,Kennedy,Macrae etc etc

For those who want to read a little about the kids here is the AFL take on the top 20 prospects.

Interesting to see Phelan rates Hrovat as a top 20 prospect.

Also Nick Vlastuin's range is apparently 15-25!

pretty clear cut Garlett for 9 it appears based on the ratings.

If we are chasing a lower rated player trade down is appropriate

Yeah I'm not so sure we'll be going for Flossy anymore unless we downgrade as you say. Looks like we'll be hoping for O'Rourke, Macrae, Mayes, Wines etc.

If we could possibly downgrade I think I'd be happier to get two of Vlastuin/Kennedy/Membrey/Graham/Garlett/Stringer/Menzel than one of the aformentioned. More upside you would think.

Another interesting thing is that for some reason Knightmare AND Chris25, the two most respected phantom drafters on BF, have us taking Taylor Garner at 9... He doesn't even feature in Phelan's top 20! o_O

No shaw in his top 20. Looking at his rankings I'd consider trading 9 for 12 and 13 or whatever the proposed deal was. Two of Vlastuin, stringer, garlett, menzel would be sensational. Really add to our depth. For us to get our hands on a wines, O'Rourke, or macrea it looks like one of the previous clubs will need to reach for a tall. GWS and the dogs having multiple picks could help us out here. Is an O'Rourke or macrea worth a combination of Vlastuin and menzel for example?

love to see one of the 8 slip to 9 but with Viney to 2nd round can't see it happening. Dudded again:(.

Still Garlett could be a great pick for us at 9, left footer with apparent talent, reasonable background and few strings to the bow gives us another dimension

Here's KM's write up:

#9 Richmond – Taylor Garner (VIC – Fwd/Mid)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 08/01/1994
Recruited from: Dandenong
Style: Jimmy Bartell
Player comparison:
Range: 5-30
Profile: Garner is an interesting player who can play forward or through the midfield to a high level. Up forward looks dangerous and is a strong marking target. 1v1 marking ability good and has some ability in the air. Has a great leap on him and can take a hanger. Tackling ability good. When he steps up into the midfield can win his own ball and is a very strong contested ball winner which is great to see considering he isn’t yet super strongly built. I do have some concerns over the consistency of his ball use and have found he isn’t always clean at ground level which is a concern for a forward, additionally decision making on a number of occasions throughout the u18 championships let him down and didn’t always find the right target, but there is a fair bit to work with none the less.

And Chris25's:

9. Richmond - Taylor Garner (186cm forward - Dandenong)

No doubting that Taylor Garner is one of the real surprise packets of this years draft, coming from a long way back to be considered a first round prospect. And while he might not be thought about as a top 10 pick, I'd be giving it a lot of thought. His performance in week three of the Championships against WA was probably the best performance of any player during the entire month in my opinion - and it was the culmination of his early season form. He just did everything you could possibly ask for. He took strong marks up forward, kicked goals and handed them off to teammates too. And then in the midfield, he won his own contested ball and used the ball really well. And he then ended up playing the rest of the Championships with a severely damaged shoulder, which he has since had reconstructed. Which says a lot about his attitude and determination. There aren't a lot of players with his size and overhead marking ability, who are also good in the contested situations. He does all the hard team stuff, but also the freakish things too. The possible rewards of picking Garner are huge in my opinion, he looks to be one of those modern day footballers. AFL Comparison: Nathan Fyfe.

Maybe they think we'll take him given our recent history of reaching slightly for players, but this still doesn't make much sense to me. Especially when in Chris25's he's got O'Rourke going at 12, no way would we pass on him IMO.

I moved Taylor Garner up to #9 about a month ago. He is a player I rate quite highly, and nobody else had him higher than about #20. So I thought I would move him up for something different, and to see if I could help his bandwagon grow a little. Realistically, he would be in that 15-25 range. But, there is a lot to like and he offers something different to most of the other early picks.

As I said before, haven't seen these draft players yet but if you were to get Garner you would only do so after trading down based on the general consensus of ratings.

seems to me Garner at nine is a clear reach, maybe 15 or whatever more appropriate. If Tigers want him , fine, but you would have to trade down before hand to minimise risk of error

Interesting to see Phelan rates Hrovat as a top 20 prospect.

I love Hrovat. Think he is a player that will be a very good midfielder at the next level. A lot been said about his height, but he is only a cm or two smaller than Kerr and Mitchell, two of the best midfielders in the comp. I have him ranked at 23 but his performances probably have him better than that. Just a footballers footballer. Does everything right.

The way these Phantom Drafters have been throwing the order around, and having guys like O'Rourke/Wines etc floating between the top half dozen or so, to outside the top 10, really seems to confirm how even the talent is in that top 15 or so, and how hard it might be to split a handful of candidates. Hopefully we pull the right reign, and nab an absolute beauty! :thumbsu:

Strange that you and KM both have him there though? If he's not rated a top 10 of even top 15 pick I can't see him going there. Unless we're fixated on him like with Conca.
This is a particularly interesting draft IMO. So even throughout the top 20.

Yep.

This draft is very, very even. Hence why I would love the move down to 12 and Jed Anderson or 12 and 14. This despite my love for Garlett and Macrae. If the rumours are true about our interest in Vlastuin and both those are gone, plenty of options available. Even a Vlastuin and Anderson due would be amazing.

Plenty of options anyway.

I can't speak for Knightmare, but I moved him up just for something a bit different. In my next update, he is back to a more realistic #15.

There was an article on the AFL website about Garner a few weeks ago, which said he was a likely first round pick. And his form in the second half of the season has been just as good as those who are considered certain top 10 picks. And with all due respect to Phelan, being left off the list doesn't mean all that much really - maybe he was the 20th player? Personally, I still rate Stringer as a top 5 pick despite what Phelan said.

I figure if you rate a guy as the best available, then just take him. Who cares what the media say? Picking someone rated by them as a 15-20 prospect at #9 really isn't that big of a deal.

Yeah all good points. Love your work BTW dude, keeps the off season that little bit more interesting :thumbsu:

I'm not a huge Garner fan but I could see a club grabbing him early. I had Simpson at pick 9 at one stage and wouldn't be disappointed if we took him at 9 tbh and yet unless I'm blind he's not on Phelan's list either.

Phelan isn't going to get them all correct nor are the clubs themselves.

Wouldn't surprise if Garlett was still there anyway though I could see GWS taking him at 9 if we did the trade. We need GWS to trade for some older players so they run out of list spots.

Simpson is an interesting one. Oodles of ability. Has he had any publicized attitude issues that you know of?
