I'd be grabbing Membrey or Stringer with a long term view of them playing midfield/ forward but being able to start as a 3rd tall. High risk high reward. Guarantee if they both drop into the mid to late 20's they'll be the new Darlings.
Someone has posted in KM's mock thread that they have heard Port might take Membrey at pick 7! While that means he's off the table for us, I saw that as a positive - for every player taken earlier than expected, a quality player we thought may not be there for us is more likely to be there at #9!

I'm keen on Membrey as that third tall/part time mid, but think pick 9 needs to be an out and out mid, and he won't be there at 29. If we could somehow manage a pick upgrade to something around 20, we might be an outside chance, otherwise can't see it happening.

I moved Taylor Garner up to #9 about a month ago. He is a player I rate quite highly, and nobody else had him higher than about #20. So I thought I would move him up for something different, and to see if I could help his bandwagon grow a little. Realistically, he would be in that 15-25 range. But, there is a lot to like and he offers something different to most of the other early picks.
Hmm we have had a bit of a love affair with the Stingrays in recent years.

I know some of you guys really like MacCrae but gee there's just something with his kicking action that irks me and gives me doubts about his ability to be an elite kick in the AFL. In a perfect world we would get O'Rourke at 9. I feel Mayes will be gone and Vlastuin is still a big chance. At 29 and 31 I had the likes of Colquhoun, Broomhead and Graham. I think Graham will be gone although hopefully Colquhoun and Broomhead will still be there. Afew others like Dean Towers have their supporters also. At 50 I'm still hoping for Harley Montgomery. Will be a very nice player IMHO in the AFL Montgomery.

For anyone interested, there is a facebook page - AFL Free Agency, Trade, Draft & Season News that gives pretty good updates on trades, rumours, free agency etc.

They are doing a phantom draft and had us taking Jackson McCrae - I've posted his write up below.

PICK 9:
TEAM: RICHMOND
PLAYER: Jackson Macrae
HEIGHT: 189cm
WEIGHT: 76kg

Macrae has essentially come from nowhere this year to become a top ten prospect, especially after his impressive season in both the National Championships and the TAC Cup.

He's a very, very smart midfielder, a great runner, another good reader of the play with solid vision and awareness, mixed with exceptional skills, pace
and work rate.

He's become a favourite of mine in 2012, and after kicking 6 goals as a midfielder against Tasmania in the national carnival, he got tongues wagging amongst recruiters, and was also another heavily interviewed player at the combine.

He won the game for the Chargers in the TAC Cup, famously kicking a point to seal the win; he was also named BOG in the TAC Grand Final, too.

Macrae is a lofty, creative left-footer who starred with 44 touches in a representative schools match later in the.

Macrae also finished equal second in the Brad Johnson kicking test at the combine, and is seen to be a bit of an excitement machine, that will provide many highlights for whichever team he is drafted to

Seems a bit pointless naming players we want at particular picks as it seems thay may be very different by the end of next week........but fun never the less:thumbsu:

If its anything like previous years FJ will choose a player we haven't heard a lot about at Picks 29, 31 and 50. Which will let us down until we see his draft highlights then we will start saying how much of a bargain we got.

If Stringer's leg checks out would love to have him. Will be a weapon up forward with his overhead marking and combining that with his midfield work he could be an Adam goodes type without the speed. Will be pretty stoked with garlett too. Jetta but with more inside ability. Vlastuin, obviously a good replacement for tuck. Love the look of his kicking and overhead ability. Beautiful size for a mid. We might not get an O'Rourke or macrea but I think we'll get a good player.

Would he be worth picking up with #33? I believe he is. Surely won't last to 50 this time around.

thoughts?

Last year I had him in my top 25. He didn't get picked up. Go figure.

I lost touch with him a tad this year, but a Perth scout was keeping me updated on his performances and told me he should definitely be drafted this season. I would hope so.

The guy is not only quick, but quick minded. Great football nous, knows where the ball is going before it gets there. I see he averaged 25 touches at senior level in the WAFL. Will do the same at AFL level.

Someone had alluded to him not interviewing very well. I know he was sick and lost a LOT of weight which threw question marks up, but I wonder if some clubs who interviewed him last year will still have hesitations if he turned them off in the interview process last year?

On paper, he reads like the perfect Foley replacement (not that I'm retiring Foley quite yet!)

Bob, what are his skills like. Pace of leg and mind and footy nous are great ingredients however if his skills aren't up to scratch I would be wary

He may lack penetration in his kicking but generally he hits targets. Hard to gauge with him in terms of efficiency as he gets so many possessions in congestion and inside. Lot of kicking is under extreme pressure. Seen him enough when in space hit a target to not consider his skills to be poor.

He also has great hands. Ability to free his hands whilst getting tackled and give it out is very good.

Of course I am going on last years information, he may have improved some aspects also, or may have gone backwards, but I was told he had a great year playing seniors in the WAFL. Very light, build him up and he will improve further.

Selwood - i never really see running much , He's always under packs getting his head ripped off
Never really got this.
Selwood is very, very, very quick. Look up his junior athletics career, champion schoolboy sprinter.
Dunno how much of the draft camp he did, or if he was fit if he did (remember he had a "degenerative" knee injury according to every club bar Selwood).
He's not *the* best under the pack (he's very good, but the likes of Mitchell Ball & Watson - even Corey a few years ago - shade him) but he absolutely slaughters all those guys in open space, and better footskills than most of them too.

Dont know how fast he is , Have never seen any statts of Joel's speed

What i meant in the post was that , The game style that he plays you dont see him doping alot of running in open space

Yeah, but I think it's what actually sets him apart; what makes him a genuine absolute gun, rather than 'just' a very good inside player.
He is better on "the spread" TM than virtually all of them (maybe not Shuey or Dangerfield). Often breaks out the front of the pack to kick inside 50. Which you rarely see Watson or Sewell etc do.

Nelson at #50 would be ideal
Would be great although my guess is he will go before #40 he's a quality footballer was captain of the WA u/18s team last year IIRC. Didn't get drafted as he was ill and lost 7 kilos, this year is a different story. Averaging 25 disposals in the WAFL at 19 the kid can obviously play and the team who grabs him will have a steal imo.
