Why would we trade Houli? We're aiming to win a flag in the next 2-3 years. You don't trade first-18 24yos in that situation.
I think he's working on the "targeting Western Sydney's demographics" theory because of Houli's background.

In other news - apparently being reported on SEN that the Camry's might be stripped of early draft picks over the Tippet affair. Which would at least move us up a spot from the second round onwards.:thumbsu:

Broomhead (possible 2nd round prospect that a few have mentioned) is said to be very clean, suited to playing a role as a sweeper, and generally tidy. Reportedly bristled at the prospect of going to GWS, but that seems to have been swept under the carpet

All good. I like Garner a lot abut I just can't see as top 10 to be honest. I wonder how good his year could have been if he didn't have those early injuries.

Guys,

I do a bit of work with Adam Marcon. He represented the Knights/Vic Metro last year, got overlooked and played at Northern Blues this year.

He has gone on to win the Northern Blues seniors B&F and has won the Ford Coaches Award in the VFL as a 19 year old..

A very tough, silky midfielder who is better than half the blokes who got picked up last year.

Will DEFINITELY be getting picked up this year and here's hoping we are interested! Although I have a feeling Carlton will be picking him up (He doesn't like talking about it so I don't ask).

He sure is.

He has a lot of similarities to Fyfe and it's hard to ignore those comparisons with his flying for marks and solid contested game. Fyfe exploded at AFL level though so Garner has a fair way to go to reach those heights.

If all 3 were available I'd go:

1.Mayes
2.Garner
3.Menzel

On talent I'd rate them:

1.Menzel
2.Mayes
3.Garner

SHould add, if we get pick 6 from Dogs for Post and 9 and fail to get Tyson I'd be trading for 12 & 14 if GWS were keen. He'll be there at 12.

Mayes & Menzel a long way head of Garner, big class difference IMO. I really hope we don't take Garner at 9. Saw him in one game for Vic Country at Skilled at he didnt do it for me at all. I didnt see enough in him to warrant selecting him with our first pick. His highlights video is pretty meh as well, don't understand the hype about him & i'm not sure how people can compare him to Fyfe; yeah similar height and marks it ok but noway near the class of Fyfe or smarts and skills that Fyfe has. Going by the game i saw and his highlights video, I'll be gutted if we take him at 9 with what will be available to us.

Pretty sure he played that Skilled game with a shoulder that needed to be reconstructed after Champs. FWIW he's ahead of Fyfe as a junior IMO. I have my doubts on him at pick 9 too. Last time we interviewed a Richmond kid 3 times before the draft it was Kieren Harper who nearly lasted till our 2nd pick. ;)

Didn't know about the shoulder, thanks. Good to hear about the Harper comparison re: the 3 interviews. Hope it pans out the same way and we look to others at our pic.

Who is in your top 8?
My top 8 in terms of the ones I thought would go before ours.

1. Whitfield
2. Toumpas
3. Grundy
4. Wines
5. O'Rourke
6. Macrae
7. Mayes
8. Plowman

If Stringer goes 6, Mayes & Plowman will still go 7 & 8 leaving Macrae for us I believe.

His article on the AFL site today says he dislocated it in EVERY Champs game he played. :o

Thanks, that's what I thought. How would you rate Vlastuin and Garlett in the Menzel-Garner-Mayes grouping on talent and where you think they'd be likely to go?

I have a feeling Mayes wont last past Port. Do you think there's a chance Brisbane will take Shaw? There's a bit of chatter on their board.

Has to be a concern, doesn't it? I know he went in for a reco after champs, but what are shoulders generally like in terms of recurring and ongoing issues?

One Chris Judd had on going shoulder injuries before he was drafted. Just have to back the medicos

I like that he is in the 2nd year of a plumbing apprenticeship means he has some gauge on the real world compared to most of the kids when they get drafted.
