Now that we've got 43, what are people's thoughts on taking a punt on Spencer White?
I would be all for taking Spencer at #43 - Very different foward to anything we have on our list & looks like he seems to have worked out his asthma issue's.

Really solid bullocking foward that has that X-Factor

FYI, Dylan McNeil has signed with Glenelg

Hmmm interesting. Maybe there is a clause to say if he is drafted he will still be eligible. I heard we and another club had spoken to McNeil. With us failing to obtain Thomas who we wanted getting McNeil would of made sense as a rookie. We may be more interested in Jared Moore now though.

It's hard to judge having only seen highlights clips but I agree with Tigerbob that there's something about Garner. Fantastic overhead, which I really like in any player, competitive beast, good size, good skills. We'll see. I trust Frank.

Bate delisted the day after we fall over ourselves to get Dudwards, that'd be about right - what a kicker.

Time to cut McGuane, move Newman to the vets list and obtain Petterd. Would be madness keeping McGuane and not taking Petterd.
That would be way too astute & logical a move for us.

We really do need to make more list space.

How about Lewis Pierce in the rookie draft as a ruck we could develop?
we've picked up a few stringrays in recent history

There are better options to be honest. I wouldn't mind Fort from the Falcons. He has a long way to go, but is an excellent tap ruckman, a good athlete and can take a grab.

Hmm, interesting that you bring up the Stingrays, in recent times we've had these blokes in the past two drafts.
Elton
O'Hanlon
Wright
Batchelor

Maybe Garner and Pongracic will make their way over to Tigerland. There's one more whose name eludes me at the moment, he'll go second/third round, medium defender.

Yeah he ticks a lot of boxes. His ceiling is so high also. He is a competitor too, loves a tackle. Then can go forward, take a grab and slot a goal. Has some kinda quality.

We do love the Dandy boys. Would be no surprise to see us with those two lads in the draft.

Tigerbob, I must ask, has your opinion changed on us taking Garlett at 9? I remember us having quite an intense debate on it a while ago. I'm quite curious to know if you have maintained your stance on him.

No change. Not at all. I just know we won't. So haven't included him in any discussions. No use arguing for him on a fan forum hey, when I know that the club won't take him. I still believe he is a top 5 talent and a guy that would suit us no end.

If I was in charge, he and Macrae would be the two I look at. Garner and Vlastuin in the mix.

I believe that we'll be locking horns for many years to come. :D

For me, Vlastuin=>Macrae>Garner>Garlett

Would it be too much to see a top 10 list of yours?
I have... (In order, barring Viney and Daniher.)
Whitfield, Grundy, Toumpas, Mayes, Wines, Plowman, O'Rourke, Vlastuin, Macrae, Menzel.

Garlett for me is right out of contention. The Finals series of Sydney convinced me that their inside midfielders were way more important than any other aspect on the ground, other than their defense, but I think we almost have that covered.

Sydney are a different case to most, but I would argue Sydney have been Sydney for a lot of years, but went out to target Rohan and Jetta for a reason, and now they have a Premiership. It takes all types. Jetta's Grand Final was important also. At the end of the day, analysing the Grand final myself, they kicked straighter and took their chances. Hawthorn didn't, the end.

Onto players, well everyone has a different opinion, I haven't met too many who are identical, certainly been in the game for a while and we all look at different traits and have different ideals. Garlett to me as a canvas, has so much more ability than Vlastuin it is not funny. But, it's not all about that and other factors draw Vlastuin in. I understand the club's stance. They have been burnt in the past with particular types and want to make sure they don't take certain risks and have failed first round picks.

For me, Garlett - Macrae - Garner - Vlastuin.

I will state, this is such an even draft and there is a bee's between them all.

My top ten? It changes frequently, I am in the middle of rankings right now. Generally have a board of 60 or 70 names and work around different aspects, group them, then rank them. Off the top of my head.

Toumpas, Whitfield, Grundy, Garlett, Plowman, Mayes, Macrae, Garner, O'Rourke, Vlastuin.

No Wines? My mail was that he is locked in at 4.

Your mail is correct. Spot on. O'Rourke will go at 5 or 6 to the Bulldogs with another I didn't rank in Stringer.

This was my personal rankings. I couldn't care less where he goes in comparison to my rankings. I have Wines at 12. I like him, but not as highly as most.

As I said, everyone will be different. Most clubs, particularly this draft will have varying degrees of differences. It is very even.

Yeah, I know, just quite interesting to see how in this draft clubs could rate players at 4 whilst others would have them at early teens.

A lot of factors in Wines to number 4. Viney's best mate, Melbourne fan, wants to play there, a Neeld type of player etc. It just fits. He is a very talented kid, I just have others in front.

On Melbourne's past history of recruiting, Wines will be a dud. :p

Oh another factor, Melbourne won't recruit anymore skinny runts. Wines is perfect for them, even though I don't think he is the fourth best player. Nathan Jones, Viney and Wines. Three bulls in the middle, lack class and polish. At least they will be hard to play against. Will compete. Just have to burn them with skill and class.

imo there is a reason our competitiveness goes down a bit when cotch is not in the centre. inside mids who always understand where to stand at stoppages who dont have brain fades ie tucky.

Yeah agree, unfortunately not too many Cotchins around lol. I have faith Conca and Helbig and also Martin will help in this area but no doubt we need some more. This can come at pick 9 or at pick 30 odd, just need to analyse the players we want.

AFL Prospectus has us as the 8th ranked midfield going into next year. We have to be better than that. We need more depth. We need more class. We should get that this draft.
