Realistically who is going to be left at our pick? 1. Whitfield 2. Toumpas 3. Menzel 4. Wines. That leaves the dogs, port and Brisbane with O'Rourke, macrea, stringer, Grundy, Mayes and ploughman being the most realistic options. I'm hoping dogs take stringer and somebody reads out Mayes name. Not a massive Mayes fan. Haven't seen him in the flesh but doesn't look to be anywhere near as dynamic as menzel or garner in the medium forward category. Looks to be too outside in a cale Morton way. Would love Grundy to fall to us but surely port will jump at the local lad if he is still on the board.

Also, I will be really annoyed if they do that backwards top ten bullshit this year. It's such an unpredictable top ten I want to see who picks who when who's available, and give me time to suss who I want when it comes to Richmond's pick - it's so exciting!

Love the look of Grundy - basketball background is pretty obvious looking at that deft soft touch he has in his hitouts. Also looks like a no-nonsense footy player which is important especially for ruckmen. If we get him we probably won't have to stress about our starting ruck for the next ten years (which would make up for the stress of the last ten years).

WB, Port, and Melbourne would be remiss to let him slide to us! It just might take them three or four years to realise it!

We would go in a year from having that combo of Graham and Browne, to Maric, Grundy and Vickery. In my opinion, best in the competition.

Recruiting is so very important.

There's actually quite a few. Other than Dylan and Jack, there is Aaron, Nathan and Tom.
Theirs a sister as well, think she works at the Bumbers.
Not bad either if you know what i mean;)

Hopefully Port are confident Renouf, Redden and Lobbe are their star big men taking them to 2013 and beyond ;)

Are the dogs still very keen on O'Rourke as one of their draftees?

Apparently them and GWS. Hoping GWS take Whitfield, Toumpas and Menzel, Demons get stripped of 4, Dogs take O'Rourke and Stringer, Port take Mayes/Wines/Viney/Macrae, Lions Plowman and we get Grundy.

Personally, I don't think that Lobbe and Redden are that bad, good youngsters in fact.

He was okay. He was fantastic for Geelong though :(
Played his absolute best footy with us. Only AA was as a Richmond player. Geelong made him look better than he was.

I completely agree. Grundy will be one of the elite ruckmen in the AFL. I have no doubts whatsoever about that claim because he has the work rate, the intensity, and the skill.

Richmond will like him too considering he does charity runs too. We love a good character.
ill believe it when hes on our list and in yellow and black not before

Forget Reg people - not gunna happen. Vanilla Vastuin is the man and probably always was.:(

2012 Maric, Graham, Browne (Vickery injured)
2013 Maric, Grundy, Vickery

Looks formidable and classy for a long time..
With the new no contact rules in the ruck, Grundy and Vickery get a clear run at it, lookout.

Getting Grundy would Put Vickery on notice.Which is a good thing.

Would be Vickery's spot to lose, but would be feeling the heat to perform!
I like this......
Then operation Tyson begins and we give it a real shake in 2014... Whoa, I'm dizzy.

i was very happy with Redden this year, especially in SC (but actually do like the look of him in all seriousness). Not seen enough of Lobbe to really be able to say. was just having a dig, tongue in cheek, hoping Port recruiters follow everything i say and take it as gospel ;)

without straying too much off topic, the interesting thing for clubs now that FA etc has come in and players are speaking out more about where they want to be geographically (and therefore request a trade accordingly), is do you draft the best available v specific needs. eg if he is still available, would it be reasonable to expect Brisbane to pass on Grundy given they picked up longer last year? i just don't think clubs can plan too far ahead assuming players will be with them because they might want to go elsewhere for whatever reason. having said that there is obviously a balance to the approach but recruiters would surely need to have it in the back of their mind moreso than ever before. my philosophy anyway is to take the best available which makes it a little less of a consideration. but not everyone would agree with that approach.

This thread is killing me.

I want Vlastuin, he is everything I admire in a footballer, but long term, if Grundy reaches the heights being bandied around on here, we could end up with our own Cox/Nic Nat combo in a few years which is bloody exciting.

Seriously guys stop it.

Every draft there are misses from the early picks, that is kids who don't make the grade.
So, some questions for those with all the inside info.

if you had to nominate 2 of the top dozen prospects who you would put you balls on the line for in saying they will definitely make the grade (not necessarily become the best), who would they be?

On the flip side, who would the the two most likely to fall by the wayside?

How strong would the go home factor be for Grundy if he moved interstate? Is he the sort of bloke who just makes home where he is and gets on with life, or would his heart always be back is SA?
